As Dante goes through the various circles, he recalls various memories and sins. In particular, in the circle of Lust, he is shown the reason Beatrix has been claimed. More precisely, he is shown the moment he sinned and betrayed her.
Throughout his passage through hell, he also meets people he knew in life who have sinned and found their ways to hell.

Will Dante be able to save Beatrix? Furthermore, will he be able to save himself?
20130720:
I enjoy the animation in this film, but I was initially confused every time Virgil and Dante changed appearance as they moved from one circle of Hell to the next. However, I later learned that different parts of the movie have different directors and are produced by different animation studios.
The movie's depiction of the First Circle of Hell, Limbo, is more frightening than that of Limbo in the video game Limbo. |
This is a good movie, but it is inappropriate for kids, because the movie is dark, it is violent, and it contains sexual content & nudity.

Instant Comments:
Virgil asks, "Have you considered she is not the only soul you are here to save?" and Dante doesn't give it a second thought. Ha!
Dante's father in the Fourth Circle of Hell (Greed). |
Clearly this man is not good at mathematics. What's 1000 years free of torment compared to an eternity of death? And as Dante points out, what good is any gold received.
"But, can you believe me? Can you believe a traitor?"
