This movie serves as an origin story. At the start, we see Stark enterprises funding some sort of excavation in China. Tony Stark, however, doesn't show great concern for the project until his friend James Rhodes goes missing and the site is bombed by the Jade Dragons.

He goes to investigate the situation, but is bombed and injured. Luckily for Stark, a Chinese man and Rhodes help save his life. While happy to be alive, Stark immediately works on turning his giant life support system into something small and portable.

Meanwhile, raising the temple has awaken four elemental warriors who seek to find four rings and awaken the Mandarin.

Blaming Stark, the Jade Dragons force Tony to reverse the damage he created. With no choice, he tells them he'll get working on it. With the help of Rhodes, Stark secretly creates an Iron Man suit and with it Stark and Rhodey break free.

After Stark and Rhodes escape, Li Mei, one of the Jade Dragons, opens a chest in which we see a picture of an Iron Knight fighting the Mandarin. She elaborates and says though an Iron Knight and the Mandarin are prophesied to fight, she doesn't know who wins. This explains why Li Mei had urged Stark to never come back.

Upon returning to Stark Enterprise, Tony reveals to Rhodes that he already made a bunch of exoskeletons. This angers Rhodes and he leaves.

In any case, the third ring is located underwater and Stark puts on an underwater suit to go looking for it. The elemental warriors also arrive and Stark battles them, managing to defeat one of the warriors, but fails to recover the ring.

Trying again, Stark goes after the fourth ring which is located in a volcano. Putting on another suit, Stark heads out and again encounters the warriors. This time, he manages to get the ring, but the story isn't over and you'll have to watch to find out what happens in the end.

I'm not sure what technique the animators used, but every once in a while it was shiny and beautiful.

While some of the animation was cool, I liked the origin story portrayed in the live-action film Iron Man (2008) much more.

"That's the last time I want to put this thing on."
Lol, how can S.H.I.E.L.D. agents be so stupid.
Hehehe. "My first order of business... You're all fired!"
