20170603:
While I'm familiar with the songs and seen parts of the film, I've never seen it from start to finish until today.
In any case, I definitely enjoyed the songs, moreso within context of the film, but I imagine that I'd enjoy a theatrical version more because something about this film version was a little off. My first guess would be the sound; sometimes the audio didn't sync up with the video. My second guess would be the pacing - though I don't know if a theatrical version would fix that minor issue with the plot (I didn't realize until the end that the film runs over the course of an entire school year).
Overall, I would recommend the film to fans of musicals, because the main reason I enjoyed the film is because I enjoy musicals. With that being said, I enjoy singing the songs and watching the dance moves, but I could simply play the soundtrack or watch the clips somewhere on the internet. I unlikely I'd watch the movie again in it's entirety on my own.
Netflix determined the movie for me as a 91% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.
Instant Comments:
Lol. These opening credits.
Hehe. Danny is pressured to exaggerate.
New girl and already a cheerleader?
Ha. "What do you guys think this is... a gang bang?" - Rizzo to the T-birds sitting in the back.
"Rizz, Rizz, Rizz." Rizzo requests, "Call me by my first name." He doesn't know. She tells him, "Betty."
Haha. "It broke." "How'd it break?" "I bought it when I was in the seventh grade."
"Jealous? Come on Sandy, don't make me laugh. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha." (forced laughter)
Oh. So gym class actually used to involve gymnastics? [I would have loved P.E. if that sort of equipment were in my gym back in high school.]
Oh, now she clearly has an accent (when Danny fell on the Track)
Is that someone famous? [Frankie Avalon]
Hand Jive!
What a cheat.
Hmm. He didn't react at all to the switch. And just takes the victory slow dance.
Uses his grease to remove his ring.
Lol. That sneeze + hand.
Hmm. Why did he cut across the way he did. Other than to make the race interesting.
Oh wow. The school year has ended...
Oh, nice, he made it in track.
Seen bits and pieces before.
