(Dis)Honesty: The Truth About Lies (2015)

20180530:
I enjoy documentaries, but I don't often watch them because I simply prefer watching other genres. Like sports, I tend to watch documentaries when they happen to be on television.

Dan Ariely

In any case, this documentary was on My List and I was fortunate enough to learn that it was expiring on Netflix. As such, I decided to give it a go.

The main part of the documentary could have been condensed into a TED talk, but I liked the supplementary material.

Overall, I would recommend it to those who have interest in human behavior.

Netflix determined the movie for me as a <56%* match. I decided to give the movie a thumbs up.

*With the first movie without a match percentage being 1st, (Dis)Honesty: The Truth About Lies was the 29th out of 32 items with hidden match percentages.

He says the degree of the fudge factor depends on several aspects, such as "Everybody's doing it."
Interesting result from this study of cheating.
Ryan Holiday. Tucker Max. Prime example of a publicity stunt.
Haha. A nice lie. (Aeronautical engineer.)
I didn't know that was such a serious topic (using a different address for school attendance). [Known as "boundary hopping." Here I'm reading an article where the daughter is the one that would face prison. Apparently the schools are concerned with resources being drained. That led to another question: what is the cost? "On average, it costs $10,615 to send a kid to public school for a year."]

In a study, cheating was increased when participants were distanced from the result.

Haha. Nobody took more than four.
"Vending karma"
Great joke. "Only women ask this question."
Oh wow. That twist with social acceptance.
Hmm. In that story, while her lying wasn't acceptable, her husband was not without blame.
Interesting. This star treatment was not something that ever crossed my mind.
Oh wow. That this leads to booking.
Huh. Doubled cheating by just introducing a token middleman. The tokens are just a couple feet away from the money!!! WTF!!!
Reminder of moral fiber.
His conclusion when doing the experiment in different countries is that there is little difference and that dishonesty is human.
