An American Tail (1986)

20180511:
While I'm sure that I've seen the sequel An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, I'm unsure if I've seen An American Tail.

Fievel Mousekewitz (Philip Glasser)

In any case, the movie felt underwhelming, because it had some good themes but failed to build them into something deeper. Instead, the movie chooses to just reference the themes of immigration and fall back to simple action to move the story along.

Overall, I don't think I would have watched the movie if I hadn't seen the sequel when I was younger. My main motivation here was to watch this movie before I watched the sequel.

Papa Mousekewitz (Nehemiah Persoff)

Of course, the movie deserves mention for it's 2D animation.

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 94% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

"And for you, Fievel, a new hat. And not just any new hat. A new hat that has been in the family for three generations."

Henri (Christopher Plummer) finds Fievel.

Fievel versus cats resembled a cartoon short.
"In America, there are no cats."
I guess the song reflects how immigrants heard and dreamed of going to America.
Haha. Fievel imitates his walk.

Digit (Will Ryan) and Warren T. Rat (John Finnegan)

The Pledge of Allegiance.
Haha. They just cross paths.
Ghost votes.
She says "rally" like "wowwee."

Tiger (Dom DeLuise)

Oh. I didn't know this song was from this movie: "Somewhere Out There"
He says "The Brothers Kara-mouse-ov" as a reference to "The Brothers Karamazov" by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Fievel points west and asks what's there. The bird responds, "More America. Someday you'll see it. You will."
