Tusk is a horror film* with the occasional comedy and drama. Without revealing too much of the plot, Tusk is a story about a a podcaster named Wallace Bryton (Justin Long) and his encounter with a man named Howard Howe (Michael Parks) who made friends with a walrus that he named Mr. Tusk.
When his girlfriend Ally (Génesis Rodríguez) and co-podcaster Teddy (Haley Joel Osment) get word that something's wrong, they head to Canada to track them down. Along the way, they meet Guy Lapointe, a former inspector who tells them he's familiar with Howe.
Will they find Wallace before something tragic happens? Or perhaps the tragedy has already occurred? Watch this horror movie directed by Kevin Smith and find out!
*For the most part I have only watched "light" horror films and this film definitely fell into that spectrum. In particular, my friend assured me that it wouldn't be worse than Drag Me to Hell (2009).

As mentioned in the instant comments section, I liked the movie's themes, but found it hard to appreciate as a whole.
On the one hand I appreciated that the transformation was unrealistic (relieved from a horror standpoint) and on the other hand I was disappointed that they didn't just replace the actor with a real walrus.
Overall, I would watch the movie again if somebody wanted to watch it, but I wouldn't watch it again on my own. In particular, I would watch the movie again as part of a True North marathon (after the entire trilogy has been released).
I should mention that I love Guy Lapointe's role in the film and look forward to seeing him (and his daughter) in the second movie Yoga Hosers (2015).
Instant Comments:
Lol. An older Haley Joel Osment.
Canada.
Interesting: fast paced music, but not much has happened yet.

Whoa, Kevin Smith. I totally didn't know he directed this movie until the credits. 12:40AM PT
While I have never seen The Human Centipede (2009), the idea of it had occasionally rung a bell throughout the movie. During the credits, however, Josh mentions it. Interesting...
I like the movie's themes, but found it hard to wrap my head around the fictional components of the movie. 12:44AM PT
What the... Josh informs me that Guy Lapointe was in fact Johnny Depp. My mind has been blown.
Credits:
Jason Mewes was an associate producer.

A sound clip of Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier plays (SModcast episode) where they talk about the story's third act and having listeners choose #WalrusYes or #WalrusNo.
