20120123:
I like the second half of the movie a lot better than the first half.
Compared to the last Adam Sandler movie I saw, Click (2006), Billy Madison was less likable. Actually, I also like both 50 First Dates (2004) and The Wedding Singer (1998) more than I like Billy Madison, but to be fair I haven't seen either of those in a while.
Trying to determine why I didn't like the movie (as much as other Adam Sandler movies), I thought perhaps it was the choice of character Sandler was using. However, he used a similar, if not the same character, throughout The Waterboy (1998), and I remember liking that movie. On the other hand, The Waterboy was probably the first Adam Sandler movie I ever saw in theaters and I haven't seen it since then, so it's possible my opinion of it would be different if I saw it today.
Overall, the movie was decent, but was lacking, especially compared to various comedies I've seen recently: Horrible Bosses (2011), Borat (2006), Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011), and Swingers (1996).
In contrast, I liked Billy Madison more than the following comedies I've seen recently: Almost Heroes (1998), Gulliver's Travels (2010), and BASEketball (1998).
