20120117:
I did not feel the same level of emotional response when I watched this movie as the level I felt when I watched A Very Long Engagement (2004).

Hana (Juliette Binoche)

The film did, however, have its moments and overall it was a good, solid war-themed romance.

I really liked Juliette Binoche's performance (as Hana). Perhaps it's one of those movies, like The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), that has so much going on in the plot, that other important elements like sound, acting, visuals, etc. go unnoticed.

Katharine Clifton (Kristin Scott Thomas)

As such, I suspect the movie would become more enjoyable on additional viewings.

If you're into war romances, you should check this movie out. In particular, if you liked A Very Long Engagement, you should definitely try watching The English Patient, and vice versa.

Count Laszlo de Almasy (Ralph Fienes)

Holy shit !#%@. This movie is just all over the place within the first 15 minutes. I made this remark at around the 12 minute mark when something happens.
They explain it around the 13 minute mark. Naveen Andrews appears. [I now him first for his role as Sayid in LOST (2004-2010)]

David Caravaggio (Willem Dafoe)

Around the 50 minute mark we see she was drawing in red with a brush in the style of the opening credits - though this time the subject matter is obvious.
Ah... at the 57 minute mark the story starts to come together.
Whoa. He just rips that dress at the 1 hour 13 minute mark.
Oh wow, right before the 2 hour mark. What a scene.

Kip (Naveen Andrews)

It's interesting to see the character without a thumb enjoying the rain.
2 hour 7 minute mark: Suprasternal Notch (Wikipedia.org)
What did she write at the 2 hour 18 minutes mark? [It gets read at the 2 hour 31 minute mark]
Because of the number of times I paused, I finished the movie at 4:00 PM [I started watching at around 12:30 PM, so I should have finished at around 2:00 PM]
