20150914:
Like with Sleepwalk with Me (2012), the movie that started as Birbiglia's first one-man off-Broadway show, I also connected with this special, a recording of Birbiglia's second one-man off-Broadway show.
In particular, I often found myself sharing similar traits and beliefs as Mike. I wonder if his stories have to do with a type of person or if the similarities are coincidental.
Instant Comments:
Hahaha. "Have you ever masturbated while driving a car?"
"This is my 'A' outfit." + a two good follow-up lines
"Oh, no, thank you." Funny, but true.
The bit about Al-Qaeda was solid. No outbursts, but solid.
"That's how I feel."
I see. I've certainly exhibited behavior similar to his behavior regarding the basketball game in the past.
"You can't choose who you love." Among the humor, this moment and perhaps a couple others makes the special seem like a TED talk. "Which is true, but it doesn't mean its good."
Title @48min.
Clever punchline with the gummy candy.
He gets back to the original cliffhanger at the 1 hour mark.
Ha! "He uses the technique we learned earlier."
"This is Chinatown."
I like that ending.
It ends with my favorite song! ("I Will Follow You Into the Dark" - Death Cab for Cutie)
