Green Lantern (2011)

20240114:
My blog started at the end of 2009 and this movie was released in 2011 so if I saw it I would have likely blogged about it. However, there is no blog post of this movie and yet I vaguely recall the idea of Ryan Reynolds being Green Lantern in a way that makes me think I've seen the movie. With that being said, I could have simply seen trailers for the movie, which would be more likely given the rate at which I fail to record watching a movie.

After completing the film, I felt that it was likely my first viewing. In any case, I think part of what makes the Green Lantern fun is the ability to come up with different creations with the ring. The movie incorporated this a little bit in Hal's "training" but I thought his creations at the end of the movie was unsatisfying. In fact, the entire ending was underwhelming. Parallax was made to sound like a very powerful villain and somehow Hal Jordan was able to defeat him. The movie was supposed to be working up to the idea that Hal's will was very powerful but I don't think it managed to convince me of that. The character Carol gave Hal a speech about getting over his fear, yeah, that was great, but I didn't recognize where that speech translated into the actual moment of overcoming his fear and embracing his will.

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 95% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Rating: 2.6 out of 5

Sinestro communicates that Abin Sur said "It's Parallax"
Hehe. She recognizes him.
The woman who takes Hector Hammond in is Amanda Walker. This is the same character that was putting the Suicide Squad together in the 2016 movie Suicide Squad. However, the character in this movie is played by Angela Bassett while the character in Suicide Squad is played by Viola Davis.
Weird. Parallax comes and says "You have failed me." absorbs Hector... Well I guess the entity could detect Hector...
Hmm seems too easy. Why didn't anyone think to simply burn up Parallax in a sun before?
