Overview: A middle-school band teacher named Joe gets the opportunity to play in a famous jazz band. But his dream gets cut short when he has an accident and finds himself en route to the other side. There he meets an unborn soul 22 and the two end up changing the other's perspective on life.

Unable to interpret Dorothea's story with satisfaction, I looked online for other interpretations. I came upon a webpage that put enough context to the story for it to make more sense. One point I took away is that despite the older fish's experience, the younger fish remains doubtful of the response. But perhaps the more important point is that often times, we find ourselves, like the younger fish, in search of something that is in fact right in front of us. In scope of the movie,

Dorothea: I heard this story about a fish. He swims up to this older fish and says, "I'm trying to find this thing they call the ocean." "The ocean?" says the older fish, "that's what you're in right now." "This?" says the younger fish, "This is water. What I want is the ocean."
