20251217: (incomplete viewing)
I like how much of the story was portrayed without any dialogue, but at the same time, I didn't fully understand all the parts. I feel some scenes were just there randomly. After watching the short once, I read the summary on Wikipedia and then I watched the short again.
Rating: 2.0/5
20251217: (full viewing)
The short's runtime is 11 minutes, but the clip on YouTube was between 5 and 6 minutes long. As such, I went to find a full version. Watching the full version (which used a different choice of music and seemed to run a tad slower) made more sense. In particular, the first version I watched omitted the entire beginning where the swindler (Charles Chaplin) is asking for money from the reporter (Henry Lehrman). Moving the previous rating of 2.0 to 3.0.
