20251217: (incomplete viewing)
Rating: 3.0/5
20251218: (full viewing)
The version I watched was about 18 minutes. Watching a full version (24 minutes runtime),* the first difference was the inclusion of exposition showing The Girl (Edna Purviance) and Her Father (James T. Kelley). Then there was a similar playspeed difference as I had noticed in The Pawnshop (the version I watched yesterday runs at about 25% faster).
I would say, simply with the extra exposition and some extra title cards, I would bump my rating up from 3.0 to 3.2.
Rating: 3.2/5
*IMDb.com lists the runtime at 30 minutes but Wikipedia lists 24 minutes. I'll go with 24 minutes.
Instant Comments:
1: I don't quite get it. There's a man [Mr. Stout (Eric Campbell)] and his wife [Mrs. Stout (Henry Bergman)] but the man seems to like this girl [The Girl (Edna Purviance)], while his wife and the girl's father [Her Father] seem to have a thing for each other; what in the world (they are all meeting at this party)
1: oh ok. perhaps they seem shocked at it
1: hehe enter Charlie
1: smile. they all tell him to keep quiet about what he knows
1: wow that leaning back move is impressive unless there's editing that has to happen for the illusion; but it looks plausible
