20231013:
Overall this movie was underwhelming.
Instant Comments:
Why would they release him at all?
Freaky floating hair... Seems unappetizing
Great will and trust to not draw his sword. (on an unrelated note, I can't remember where I've seen this actor [his name is Hiroyuki Sanada; among his credits and looking at pictures, I'm guessing I recognize him from Bullet Train])
Hehe. They cut.
Smile. I think mine is broken. (Interesting. Keanu Reeve's character [Kai] made it look effortless to cut the tree)
Hmm... While I haven't been super attentive, perhaps they should have been tactically prepared for a trap
Hmm. This evil person... I don't know. Lacks something. Perhaps traditionally such a character is attractive, and subtely evil (e.g., Charlize Theron's Evil Queen in Snow White and the Huntsmen). But perhaps here this character is overtly evil and doesn't portray herself as attractive. "I knew it was you. I could see your belly sticking out..." Smile. He said it so neutrally. Very cool
"A samurai wears two swords."
"Now. We are 47." [apparently the underlying story is based on an actual historical event: forty-seven ronin (Wikipedia)]
"Know now. The depth of my master's courage."
Hmm. I feel like... a better story would be to set up that power early in the movie, then for a particular reason he swears to not use it, only for him to choose to use it here in the end. Instead here they only had him earlier refer to the not using demonic powers, so that when he does use it here in this scene, it lacks impact.
wow. All these men to perform seppuku. What a waste of honorable manpower.
