Waterworld (1995)

20250425:
Having seen and enjoyed the WaterWorld show at Universal Studios, I thought it would be reasonable to watch this movie. While there were some exciting parts, the sets, some of the themes, and some core relationships, I ultimately thought the film failed to deliver a believable and engaging plot. I think in a more traditional action movie fashion, there should have been a mechanism for which the protagnist, The Mariner, to take down the enemy in a way that leverages his abilities and skill set.

Nice opening. It informs a lot in a short amount of time
Ah. I was wondering why he would pick all the fruit and it was the other guy who took it
Pure dirt.
If covering the tattoo on her back is so important, I feel a better choice of clothes would be in order
Hmm. They reveal he's a mutant. Does that imply he cheated by going to the sea floor to get dirt?
That's a lot of ammo and investment into a siege
Hehe. Didn't even see what he was firing at... Will he be fired?
Huh. Did he not see his target leave?
You're dying anyways bro
I saw this scene in the preview where the actress reminded me of Charlize Theron. But it's not. The actress Jeanne Tripplehorn is about 12 years older than Charlize Theron
Wow. Her clothing was just one piece of cloth
Whoa. Cool view. He's high above. It really shows how big his sails are
Hehe. Threw her overboard
Yikes. He's gonna be mad
Hahaha. The little one got her hair chopped off too
Hehe. Paper
It looks like they're eating a small fish when the fish that attacked him seemed huge
Hehe. This scene of the sail passing the water looks clearly like a model passing by
wow that's a great underwater shot where she's smiling
nice flag
ah ok. it's like I thought. seafloor
oh I guess technically it's former dryland... but still counts as seafloor... well wouldn't the dirt have transformed over time?
paused at 84 minute mark
resumed.
sharks?
hehe. "I said slow!"
After he gives his speech and they get all excited. I'm imagining this ship will be going down by the end of the movie
Huh. He's just gonna confront them directly?
"Because you're not crazy." He drops it. The old man down there: "Oh, thank God."
That explosion did less damage than I was expecting. I thought the choice would have been suicidal
I love the detail that went into getting the zipline taut
uh, even if he didn't come down, they were headed straight for each other anyways
what I don't get is why there wouldn't have been some people on the remaining dryland? like... did people not know where the highest points on Earth were located?
