Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)

20190404:
This movie had problems.

Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich)

It was a movie designed for fans, and yet it didn't focus enough on the titular Han Solo.

With respect to the final story, the simplest modification would have been to downplay the importance of Qi'ra. One scene, in particular, stuck out like a sore thumb (Qi'ra and Darth Maul). Perhaps the writers should have emulated the Marvel Cinematic Universe and reserved this scene as a post-credits scene.

In different words, the movie tried too hard to set itself up for a sequel. Instead, it should have organically ended in it's own right and allow the possibility of sequels to exist organically.

Beckett (Woody Harrelson)

Perhaps one of the reasons I didn't enjoy this prequel was the amount of time that takes place between Solo and Star Wars. In contrast, that's the reason I enjoyed Rogue One: it directly ties in to Star Wars.

Overall, I had heard the movie was bad and it just about met those expectations. With that being said, it was not bad towards the end. In particular, the actor playing Han Solo grew on me.

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 97% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Instant Comments:
1: Both my sister Crystal and I question the font
2: The other guys. Haha.
1: She doesn't like the actress
1: I don't like this Han (it's weird) [in contrast, all of the actors in Star Trek felt right]
1: Han's dice.
1: oh no she has his dice
1: lol, he got his last name because he's alone.

Qi'ra (Emilia Clarke)

1: Han speaks Shyriiwook [which begs the question... why? Where / How did Han Solo learn to speak / understand Shyriiwook?]
1: "We couldn't have maybe done this one at a time."
2: Beckett modifies the blaster and throws it to Han; it would be Han's blaster
1: Lando Calrissian
1: awww he cheated (and Han was counting and knew it wasn't right). A: Han says they've all been played but he didn't speak out about it. [I gave it some thought and came up with the following. While Han feels cheated, he's also not the type of person who would outright snitch on a cheater.]
2: "They don't even serve our kind here."
1: haha Chewie and chess

Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover)

2: Capes
1: she hands him back his dice.
1: subtle Star Wars theme plays as Han gets into cockpit
1: 190 years old
1: Star Wars theme increases in volume once Chewie gets into the seat
1: hahaha Han and his lies
1: Tatooine (I know the planet but I don't know the reference, if any) [Jabba the Hutt is located on Tatooine]
1: back and forth and on who is evil: I thought the girl and Crystal thinks Beckett
1: Crystal keeps thinking Qi'ra will die from a still alive Dreysden; I kind of thought the same
1: Maul

Dryden Vos (Paul Bettany)

1: hehe Han [A: clearly] shot first
1: "Don't hold your breathe kid."
2: I saw an article on ScreenRant.com which incorrectly says Han cheated. He did not. In fact, he clearly said something to this effect: if you, Lando, had this card, then you would have beat this (four-card) hand which I am revealing to you now.
1: haha "Fair and square."
1: When have I ever steered you wrong?"
