20050813:
I didn't like this movie that much relative to Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971). Though I heard that it's closer to the book than the 1971 film.
I will certainly give the movie a second shot one day, but to be honest, Johnny Depp's Willy Wonka* and Deep Roy's Oompa Loompas were just too strange for me.
Yes... that's what made it hard to watch, Depp was just too crazy.*
Oh, another reason I have to watch the movie again would be to see Freddie Highmore's performance. While I obviously saw his character the first time, I only came to know him for his performance in August Rush (2007) (as the protagonist August Rush).
Grandpa Joe played by David Kelly was the guard in Stardust (2007).
*On 20161003, I enjoyed Depp's version of Wonka.

20161003:
I didn't like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the first time I watched it.*
Watching the movie today, I was worried because I didn't like how it started. Fortunately, the movie quickly turned around. Unfortunately, I realized the reason I probably didn't like the movie: I wasn't a fan of the oompa loompa scenes. Perhaps their likeness and coordination was creepy.
In the end, however, I completed this viewing with a more positive opinion of the film. Furthermore, it's highly likely that anybody who hasn't seen the first movie would be sure to enjoy this adaptation of the book.
*I didn't realize while writing this entry that I had already made a post for this movie.
Instant Comments:
"Daddy, I want another pony."
"...a retard could figure it out."
Ha. His one grandpa starts going off, his dad covers his ears, and the sound we (the audience) hears is muffled
It's interesting because I know (and even someone who hasn't seen the movie would know) that Charlie would have to find a ticket by the end of it.
Huh. Well. That he spent money he found on the ground is slightly disturbing.
"Yippee!"
Wonka's lines are great.
Wonka smiles
"I do say it seemed kind of rehearsed." "Like they knew it was gonna happen."
Hehe. Basically knows which key is the right one. Also, not having the key did not prohibit crossing the gate.
Also sprach Zarathustra plays (the same music found in the opening scene of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968))
Ha! And it becomes the monolith in the 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) scene.
