20121214:
Today I went to watch the midnight showing! Asking around, I had discovered the first person in line came around eight o'clock in the evening. My friends and I came around half past nine and managed to be about sixtieth in line. We got decent seats.
Overall, this was a solid movie. In particular, it had many visual similarities to The Lord of the Rings series, and if you loved watching The Lord of the Rings, then you should thoroughly enjoy this movie. Otherwise, if you like movies with a fantasy setting and have the patience to sit through a three-hour long movie that is visually pleasing, then you should also consider watching this movie. However, I would recommend watching The Lord of the Rings trilogy first.
In any case, I would certainly watch the movie again. However, I declined watching the movie again in IMAX 3D, because it would have cost over $20! At this point, I'd only watch it again in theaters for less than $5.
Trailers: Promised Land (2012), After Earth (2013) [Jaden Smith just keeps growing], The Host (2013) [Someone in the audience asked, "Where's the sparkle?"], Beautiful Creatures (2013) [Not only was the premise of the movie weird, the title is terrible and not at all memorable. It took me a long time to find it. My search ended by browsing Rotten Tomatoes's list of upcoming movies], Pacific Rim (2013), The Lone Ranger (2013) [Johnny Depp!], The Croods (2013) [Looks like a fun animation.]

Life of Pi (2012)
20121202:
I definitely liked this movie. Other movies I'm reminded of after watching this movie are Pan's Labyrinth (2006), Finding Neverland (2004), The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (2005), and Bridge to Terabithia (2007).
Overall this movie was solid and did a great job of immersing me into an alternate reality, similar to the other movies I mentioned. With that being said, I intuitively like Pan's Labyrinth and Finding Neverland more than Life of Pi. Likewise, for unknown reasons, I like Life of Pi more than Pan's Labyrinth and Narnia.
Analyzing the rough order in which I ranked the five movies (Pan's Labyrinth outranking Finding Neverland), perhaps I merely ranked the darker and more dramatic movies higher. On that note, I find the overall story of this movie to be appreciated by an audience whose minimum age is older than the minimum age needed to appreciate both The Chronicles of Narnia and Bridge to Terabithia.
In the end, if you like any of the above movies, then you should consider seeing any of the others. If you have any reservations, then I recommend you see Life of Pi, Finding Neverland, and/or Pan's Labyrinth.

I watched this movie with my wife today, because she wanted to watch it. After we started the film, she remembered seeing parts of it before, but she didn't remember when or where.
Despite not having seen the movie in over six years, I still had remembered the story's big reveal. While this altered how I watched a portion of the film, I learned during the story's big reveal that I had remembered the reveal incorrectly. I thought the cook was the tiger, but the cook was the hyena and Pi was the tiger.

Wreck-It Ralph (2012)
20121103:
This movie ended up being much deeper than what I expected just from watching the trailer. Which is good in the sense that I don't want a trailer to give me a summary of the movie. A lot of action films will do this. They'll show various sequences from the movie, including the big explosion at the end. I'd still go and watch the movie, because I'd want to see how the plot unfolds, but the trailer might already give away the big surprises before they happen. Getting back to Wreck-It Ralph, the trailer was just an introduction, and I like that.
In terms of the movie itself, I'd say the reveal took me by surprise. I did not figure out the ending until it happened. Something along the lines of Sherlock Holmes. All the clues and details are laid out in front of you. But it only all comes together at the end, when it's spelled out for you. Great story-telling.
On a somewhat related note, the movie had me feeling an emotional range in the vicinity of Toy Story 3. It efficiently establishes the characters and the relationships between characters. As a result, the viewer begins to empathize with the characters much more.
Not too great with words, that's the best way I can praise the movie without giving away any details. If you like Toy Story, you must see this movie. If you like animation, I highly recommend the movie. And finally, if you like movies, then I recommend the movie. Good job, Disney!

20130102:
Today I watched the movie again (also in 3D again) at the cheap theater. $5. We were late, but luckily the theater delayed the start of the movie, perhaps due to the unexpected number of parents and children lining up, either for Wreck-It Ralph or Hotel Transylvania (2012). The credits ended around 2:40PM PT. My experience from the movie was definitely different, since I knew how it ended and I would spend part of the viewing watching for signs of foreshadowing.
There were some jokes I heard that I didn't remember hearing before.
One of the funniest scenes follows when Fix-It Felix Jr. says, "You're one Dynamite Gal!"
Two shorter pieces of funny dialogue are:
Speaking of which, the donuts are named Duncan and Wynchel, a play on donut franchises Dunkin Donuts and Winchell's Donuts. Random: we later bought donuts from Winchell's.
It might be the musical score, or perhaps the great voice acting that, despite knowing how the story goes, I still got swept up by the range of emotion. From Vanellope's car being built to her car being smashed. Then from their reunion to his plummeting skydive towards the Mentos. In fact, I was more drawn in emotionally this time when Ralph starts reciting the Bad-Anon affirmation. Frankly, I don't remember that moment much from the first viewing of the movie. Wreck-It Ralph says, "I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be then me."
I don't remember about last time, but this time I saw the movie and the audience had a lot of children. However, there was not much laughter. It's possible that the theater wasn't packed, but I also found the jokes were often puns and not easily understood by children. Children tend to laugh at jokes built around slapstick comedy as opposed to verbal humor. The movie also delves into more serious situations. That led me to realize that most animated Disney movies are not comedies. In contrast, the trailer for Wreck-It Ralph had given me the impression this movie was more lighthearted. With all that being said, it's a great family movie.
Oh, I forgot to talk about the short, Paperman, in my previous entry. Its a romantic short and something I noticed more this time is how the music drives the story and characters. I love the music and I love the short. Perhaps I'm in a very romantic mood.
As a final remark, this time I got to watch the full credits, up until the end when the movie goes to a kill screen which resembles the Pac-Man kill screen.

This does not including re-releases. In that situation, I've paid for at least one of the Lord of the Rings movies more than once.
Fix-It Felix Jr.:
I added a link to Fix-It Felix Jr. above (20211114: the link is broken), a flash game by Disney, which plays out much the same way as the video game plays out in the movie. You're Fix-It Felix Jr. and you walk from spot to spot trying to fix all the broken windows (with the space bar). Getting a pie grants a short invincibility and fixing double broken windows in one swipe. Hitting certain score values grants an extra life.
In the style of other old games, such as Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., and Pac-Man, one repeats the same level over and over, only with increasing difficulty.
- Rate of brick fall increases
- Chance of brick breaking window increases
- Number of birds increases
- Rate of bird flight increases
- Number of fixed obstacles increases
Tips:
Birds stay on a fixed height.
Its easy to miss fixed obstacles.
The game isn't timed.
Birds disappear the moment you fix the last object in a stage.
Don't move too quickly into a bird's path. Chances are it won't have passed yet.
You only get 500 points per swipe. So with invincibility, you might be fixing two windows at once, but you get 500, not 1000 points.
Invincibility is to bricks and birds.

Unfortunately the new character Zara dipped in her contribution to the final season...
Wow. That's genius. Archer and acoustics
Seems like Krieger could have engineered a body for Barry
Smile. He doesn't know how the song goes and legit panics
Smile. "I'll give him a spoonful of shit."
Smile. Archer's thong came off
I don't remember what that means "Does it still vibrate" [I looked it up and she was rebuilt as a cyborg]
Sounds like Kronk, which woudl be Patrick Warburton [he is]
funny thing is Lana read the letter otherwise...
Smile. 8 people in one car
Hahaha. Is it too late to change sides?
Heh. Cheryl shoots the ground
"I would miss you guys all so much if I didn't have clone sof all of you."
Smile. Barry
Huh. Archer and Pam... And that ends the show...

Archer Season 13
[Part of TV Series: Archer]
S13E1:
Huh. The guy brought a knife. And well... died as a result. Karma?
Hahaha. "And you're overwhelmed"
Smile. Archer explains he purposely let Lana win for an improved custody case, but she says it wouldn't matter
1=20240902
S13E2:
Hahaha. "I couldn't finish. Even as a joke."
Hehe. Hippo game
Hahaha. Spider bites Ray
Lana will save Cyril.
1=20240903
S13E3:
Probably AJ would take care of the criminals just fine
Juice
1=20240904
S13E4:
Chuckle. "Reacquire it." "I doubt it. Have you met us?"
That entire bomb scene was quite epic
1=20240904
S13E5:
Smile. The brunch hang turns out to be an intervention
Holy shit. Pam's place is amazing
Swiss pants!
Ah. In the background.
hehe. Mallory's clothes
Chuckle. "Meep"
1=20240904
S13E6:
What did Archer swallow in the drink
Hahaha. "Hello, Ms. Tunt"
Smile. "I heard threesome."
"Oh shit." "I think it's pronounced SWAT"
Oh nice. She showed up to help them. I was really hoping she wasn't the one that tipped off the authorities. In which case, it was probably Fabian
Wow. Cheryl just leveled up (bombs)
Haha. She calls Klaus...
Oh right. I forgot that Archer pressed the button
Oh yeah. I was wondering earlier before this episode how this season would have them exit IAA, because I feel like that chapter should close by the end of the season.
I had to watch that again. Backdated. Huh
1=20240904
S13E7:
Laughtrack played (Archer said something)
Again the laughtrack
Haha. "Stop with the sitcom sound effects."
Hahaha. 6MPH
Smile. One year for every month...
1=20240904
S13E8:
Haha. 60/40
"Fuck your muffins"
1=20240905

[Part of TV Series: Archer]
S12E1:
Smile. "We should look into IAA"
"Rammed from behind"
"I'm coming. Also intentional"
1=20240822
S12E2:
Smile. "If your brain were a drug I'd snort the shit out of it."
Hahaha. The hostage negogiator says he'll happily have them killed
Smile. "Screw you Miranda."
1=20240822

Cyril says a million dollars and everyone responds positively except Cheryl who neutrally responds "Oh, that's cute."

Hehe. Rubbing it out.
Haha. "This one's a real page turner."
Huh. It seems this is the origin of his name Archer. For some reason I thought Sterling was his last name. [Oh. Archer is actually his last name.]
Ah! Actually I had a suspicion she was a spy from when he addressed her upon arrival of the hotel
"Smoke bomb!"
1=20240902
S12E7:
Hahaha. "The soup kitchen was a sex club."
This doctor sounds like a mix of Krieger and Cyril. Or maybe just Krieger. I can't quite tell.
"Sorry pal. It's actually other Barry"
1=20240902
S12E8:
Oh no. Robert sold the company which is probably owned by IAA
"In loving memory of Jessica Walter" Seeing this made me feel a little sad. I knew she had passed away, but I didn't realize it was after/during Season 12. [Apparently the voice actors recorded their lines prior to animation, so while Jessica Walter passed away while the season was still in production, her lines had already been recorded][One article I came across mentioned that the writers did rewrite the ending][On Reddit, one redditor wrote "I don't know for the majority of the season, but for the final 2 episodes, yes they used lines from previous seasons."]

Archer Season 11
[Part of TV Series: Archer]
S11E1:
Hehe. They're all better people. But they're bound to regress
Hehe. The fridge
Archer pulls through and actually contributes a lot
1=20240821
S11E2:
haha. Jesus
hehe. situation is beginning to converge on pre-coma Archer (Cheryl reverts to her old self by the end of the episode and Pam was more or less on board from the getgo)
1=20240821
S11E3:
hehe. Cheryl is not allergic
I think to be fair... they are in some sense in their situation because they didn't invite him (they got locked in)
hehe. "heaven [...] that can't be right"
Hehe. Krieger reenacts the ending of Planet of the Apes ("You maniacs! You blew it up! Damn you! Goddamn you all to hell!")
1=20240821
S11E4:
Hehe. Spent the whole time tying up a guard
I feel that's a little suspect. A fake Barry could just pretend he was the "real" Barry (the one they were with) that uploaded himself to another Barry. after all, that was the entire point of chopping off the hand to not get fooled by a fake Barry. And yet... it's as simple as that ending
1=20240822
S11E5:
Chuckle. "Should we leave?" "I'm staying."
Ah! I had a feeling in the previous episode that he kind of conveniently showed up.
smile. Cheryl calls it! (Aleister pretending)
Why did he just knock him out instead of killing him
Huh. What a twist.
Haha. Drives the blade in
Smile. Mallory is already there
1=20240822
S11E6:
Why is Lana on the outside away from her husband?
Haha. Middle of a conversation
Hahahaha. "Cream inside an Or..." "Do not finish that sentence."
1=20240822
S11E7:
Hehe. "It's so hard to talk to poor people."
Aww. She sipped on her juice box and had him wait. I'm pretty sure that's a reference to a habit of Archer.
1=20240822
S11E8:
Is it someohow the woman next to them? But she was right next to them when this second person died
Haha. "Yeah. What kind of porn?"
Haha. "I just can't imagine being like that." "So close and yet so stupid."
Huh. They all glitched out to his space coma version of them.
Huh. He points out that perhaps they want him around so they have an excuse to be their worse selves... Lana makes a slight reaction to affirm his point.
Hehe. Helipad karma
Everything is back to normal pre-coma (e.g., Cyril fired a shot with his eyes closed)

Archer Season 10
[Part of TV Series: Archer]
20240819:
I'm gonna try to have this season in the background with minimal notes.
S10E01:
space-themed Archer... do any of the seasons relate to each other anymore? [oh this season is still part of Archer's coma]
hehe. Carol is really good at gunning down enemy ships
hahaha. "yanking my bones" "space phrasing"
1=20240819
S10E02:
robot milk like Alien?
1=20240819
S10E03:
they could eat the creature or the creature's eggs?
Ray's probably eating eggs; because he seems to be animated the way Pam
do the eggs somehow compell one to eat them? as like... a way they hatch?
I wonder if those released eggs in this danger zone will somehow help them
smile. opposite of my comment. though unbeleivable... how could those eggs bombard a ship
1=20240819
S10E04:
hehe in the storage
1=20240819
S10E05:

"death star" lower case "d" lower case "s"
"Try opening your eyes"
hehe down the garbage chute. another Star Wars poke
1=20240820
S10E08:
Hehe. Archer hallucinating old crew (Lana, Pam)
hehe second reference to the scanner doing everything
hehe Catch-21
long password
space phrasing
you would think a robot would be able to easily put in a long password
they all revert
1=20240820
S10E09:
1a: hehe. again with "suppressing fire" but this time it works
1a: too sleepy. will have to watch this again later.
1b: Go back to the 7:50 mark
1b: haha. "It's howmever" (in the other episode she corrected "It's whomever" but I think her correction was (as a joke of the writers) wrong but only to those who know, and here it's obviously wrong
1b: hehe this scene I was awake for (they unload the ammo)
1a, 1b: smile. his suppressing fire actually hit enemies
1b: chuckle. Mallory tells Archer that the story is mainly about them and that it's a love story (which could be like a familial love)

Archer Season 9
[Part of TV Series: Archer]
20230220:
Today I started and finished this season. It's been over a year since I watched the show, so I had forgotten what had happened in the previous seasons. I looked around and read some synopses to catch myself up. In short, Archer fell into a coma at the end of Season 7, and Seasons 8, 9 and 10 take place in Archer's head - each taking on a different theme. The three seasons are subtitled Dreamland, Danger Island, and 1999, respectively.
S9E01
Archer: Danger Island
"consensual buggery"
hehe the macaw is a gonna be a character (at least I noticed him during the credits and given the characteristic he's been given of talking at a proficiency well beyond a normal macaw it seems he will be)
hmm I thought this character was just pretending to be police. so apparently this is probably like another version of Archer swimming. we have Ray is the police, Cheryl is Charlotte, and Dr. Krieger is the macaw [Crackers] lol Fuchs (sounds like "fuck").
hehe the fuel pump starts working again. I had a different feeling where he knew he was going to land fine but wanted everybody out of the plane for shits and giggles.
1=20230220
S9E02
the caption still refers to him as Cyril
pretty cool. and given that the snake died... it's probably a good thing he almost got killed by the snake
jesus what is the h for christ
hehe... is that her shit? she tasted her finger...
hehe spoiler chocolates
hehe 60 40.
ha. I laughed at Pam's fart in his face. I think it wasnt just the fart itself though. the entire lead up was good.
1=20230220
S9E03
hehe. "I don't think that's a thing yet" Archer commenting on Pam's use of "Catch-22"
hehe. not as much as that map
1=20230220
S9E04
smile. jar of coconut butter.
1=20230220
S9E05
hehe. "why arent you sinking?"
1=20230220
S9E06
Hehe. Still craving the oysters.
Smile. Cheryl/Charlotte was able to read the footprints
Smile. "This guy has ringworm"
Did Archer just instinctively act to save the natives?
1=20230220
S9E07
Hehe. Meta comment: montage
Stuka pills. [Apparently they were a real thing; the Wikipedia article for it is D-IX - 5 mg oxycodone (Eukodal), 5 mg cocain, and 3 mg methampehtamine (Pervitin)]
Hahahaha. haha. "Do you want to snort a line off my cock?" (in German)
Hehe. "Oysters"
1=20230220
S9E08
They talk about The Hobbit which they put into perspective as being released in 1937 which was a year ago
Lol. It seems they lucked out in coming with many people (to sit on six stones)
Oh, the one guy got off his pillar but the mouth is still open.
Uranium.
Delayed laughter. Cheryl simply says, "No, thank you" in reply to Cyril's "Perhaps I can help."
Smile. "We were this close to banging." "No we weren't." "This close."
The episode ends with a preview of the next setting. The cast are being woken up from cryo sleep aboard some kind of space craft.

Archer Season 8
[Part of TV Series: Archer]
20210929:
I like how they used the ending of the last season to come up with a refreshing idea that was enjoying to watch.
S8E01
Hehe. Is this entire season going to be in his dreams?

I liked this season. It was a good season.
20210926:
Today I watched the first few minutes of the first episode (S7E01) and then all of the last episode (S7E10).
S7E9
1: LOL. We learn that when Pam had sex with Malory (way back when) it involved a dildo
1: LOL, Lana at the door. Lana did put them on a break. [In the next scene, Archer mentions this first]
1=20170416

A: Huh. I did not remember that twist. My guess is second cyborg... though presumably they'd do an autopsy. So we'll just have to see how Archer survives.

Clerks (1994)
Some time in the last five years (I believe the summer of 2009), I went through and successively watched each movie which takes place in the View Askewniverse: Clerks (1994), Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), Dogma (1999), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), and Clerks II (2006).
20120826:
This is the second time I've seen Clerks and I was reminded of several great scenes throughout the movie. One such scene was about dicks (I've included this one at the bottom of this post) and another was the scene about the bathroom.
While the plot of the movie has more depth than what we see in the clip, I find the clip certainly captures the essence of the type of humor found throughout the movie. It's subtle, but good.
Another scene that I like is the scene which introduces Jay and Silent Bob. "I'll $#@* anything that moves!" [...] "Silent Bob, you're a rude motherfucker you know that? But you're cute as hell." [...]
Post-Movie Comments:
The beginning of the film on Netflix had trouble playing, so I had to skip forward about a minute or two into the film.
The movie is heavy on dialogue.
It's also in black and white.
It's not as good as I remember. But it's still pretty funny. The humor is more of a witty humor that makes me smile as opposed to the type that makes me burst out laughing.
[20120826][20130127][20160917 Edit][20181214 Edit]
20160917:
Today I was watching the movie while doing some other things and I enjoyed it. While I mentioned in my previous post that the movie wasn't as good as I had remembered, today I'd say the movie is as good as it should be.
Instant Comments:
3: "I wasn't even supposed to be here today!" (11 min) (34 min) (46 min) (96 min)
3: Haha. The movie request list.
3: "Would you like some making fuck, Berserker!"
3: "Hey, you're not allowed to rent here anymore!"
3: In reality, even though there aren't any lights in the restroom, there should have been sufficient ambient light when the door is first opened. Furthermore, how would someone find the toilet without knowing someone is sitting there.
3: Ha. The erect penis in the ambulance.
3: "What kind of convenience store do you run here?"

Jaws (1975)
20120824:
I was mainly deciding between watching Jaws for the first time or re-watching The Hunger Games (2012). Having seen The Hunger Games less than three months ago, I decided to go ahead and watch Jaws.
20131221 Comments:
Using my vague memory of the movie, I would say I enjoyed the movie as a whole and would definitely be up for seeing it again. It was especially great to hear the Jaws themes song within the context of the original film, instead of as a reference or parody.
When trying to remember scenes from the movie, the one that enters my mind is when Brody (Roy Scheider) frantically calls everyone from the water onto the shore. I honestly don't remember what prompts the panic or how the situation resolves, but that the scene itself was full of suspense and fun to watch.
Overall, this film has a great story and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good thriller.
Instant Comments:
A: I had no memory of the opening scene being so violent. She got tossed around so violently.
A: The amount of tension that comes and goes in the beach scene is incredible.
A: And for it to end the way it does.
A: Ha. One of the comments heard: "24 hours is like three weeks."
A: The nail scratching on the chalkboard
A: "I'll find him for three, but I'll catch him, and kill him, for ten." [Though that makes sense, the amount their businesses would save would far outweigh ten thousand dollars]
A: Hehe. The music really makes all the difference in helping build tension.
A: Lol, the music and screech (probably violin(s)) shook my body
A: "You don't have the tooth..."
A: "Somebody get a gun! Get a gun and shoot it!"
A: "We're gonna need a bigger boat."
A: Ha! Hooper needs Brody in the foreground for scale in his pictures.

The Expendables 2 (2012)
Partial Plot Summary (Possible Spoilers):
The movie starts with some sort of rescue mission. The Expendables come in on these heavy duty vehicles and just plow their way in. In recovering the hostage, they also manage to rescue Trench (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a rival mercenary. While Trench only appeared in one scene in the last movie, he plays a more important role in this one. After the mission, Yin Yang (Jet Li) leaves the team to escort the hostage back to China and Yang does not appear in the remainder of the film.
Upon returning home, Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone), the group leader, is forced to take a mission from CIA operative Church (Bruce Willis). Like Trench, Church also gets more screentime in this movie than the last. For the mission, Church sends Maggie Chan to go with the team. While the team successfully retrieve the item they were after, they're intercepted by the Sangs, a group lead by Jean Vilain (Jean-Claude Van Damme). Jean has captured the team's new recruit, a sniper named Billy. The Expendables submit and give Jean the device they just retrieved. Nevertheless, Jean kills Billy, driving Barney's own knife through Billy's chest.
Seeking revenge, the group goes after Jean and the Sangs. Some time during this pursuit, they are ambushed and an old friend of Barney's named Booker (Chuck Norris) briefly lends his assistance. Working alone, Booker departs after telling Barney about a local village that might be willing to help Barney's team against the Sangs.
20120823:
I'm usually good about keeping movie notes. However, sometimes they go missing. This seems to be the case with The Expendables 2.
Anyways, I was going through taking some screenshots and heard the following line (it was just as funny as when I first heard it in theaters):
"So I heard you were bit by a king cobra?" "I was... but after five days of agonizing pain... the cobra died."
The following was less funny, but one of the many silly one-liners:
Arnold comes bulldozing in, pops out, "I'm back."
Instant Comments:
A: Possibly one of the cheesiest pieces of dialogue I've heard in a while:
A: "Who's next? Rambo?" - Trench to Booker
A: Lol. Arnold just rips the door off the car. In response, Bruce Willis kicks his door open.
A: "That thing belongs in a museum." "We all do."

As student of mathematics, I've learned the following about Chuck Norris:
The movie starts with some sort of rescue mission. The Expendables come in on these heavy duty vehicles and just plow their way in. In recovering the hostage, they also manage to rescue Trench (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a rival mercenary. While Trench only appeared in one scene in the last movie, he plays a more important role in this one. After the mission, Yin Yang (Jet Li) leaves the team to escort the hostage back to China and Yang does not appear in the remainder of the film.

As student of mathematics, I've learned the following about Chuck Norris:
Chuck Norris doesn't assume the axiom of choice, he is the axiom of choice. Equivalently, a set doesn't have a well-ordering, until Chuck Norris decides to give it one. And in case you're wondering, if every chain in a partially ordered set P has an upper bound in P, then P contains a maximal element, because Chuck Norris wills it.
See axiom of choice (Wikipedia.org), well-ordering theorem (Wikipedia.org), Zorn's lemma (Wikipedia.org)
