20231030:
I just finished this movie, and I didn't take any instant comment notes. I loved the tension between Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen) and Elizabeth Bennet (Keira Knightley). There was a clear attraction between the two, but such a strange interaction in how their personalities resulted in strange first impressions and evolving relationship.
Elizabeth was very headstrong, and it was this essential trait that got her to the ending. Otherwise, she would have already been paired with Mr. Collins.
I remember trying to read this book in high school, but I recall it was too dense for me to complete.

Haunted Mansion (2023)
20241013:
I started this movie last year with Ben but for some reason we didn't finish it. It's possible it was too scary for him. In any case, I've been completing various unfinished films recently, so I thought I go ahead and finish this one as well. While I don't entirely remember the first part of the movie, I vaguely recall plenty of fan service. While not an amazing film, it's not bad as a family-friendly Halloween movie - though perhaps its PG-13 rating is indicative that it could be too scary for younger children. I'll give it a 3.0 out of 5.
Instant Comments:

Starship Trooper (1997)
20231028:
I think it definitely helped to have learned partway in that the movie was a satire on facism. I guess perhaps the problem is it feels obvious if you know it, but the movie easily seems like just another sci-fi movie if you don't.
Netflix determined the movie for me as a 98% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.
Instant Comments: 1a: How come people are bumping into this guy, but not into the person holding the camera?
1a: Neil Patrick Harris and Denise Richards
1a: 97% on the math finals
1a: Hehe. 35%.
1a: Signing up and becoming a pilot seems good versus... [infantry]
1a: "Games and Theory"
1a: Hehe. She didn't say it back.
1a: Weird... he had her say it. I feel like that is as good as meaningless.
1a: Caption: bone snaps
1a: She did rather well.
1a: Hmm. He's an idiot for not sticking with Diz who seems very capable.
1a: "The enemy cannot pus a button if you disable his hand."
1a: Very different reasons for joining.
1a: Three meters from object.
1a: Give him a squad? But that was Diz's call.
1b: Resume at around 40 minute mark (maximum score of 280)
1b: Hmm. I just noticed (and this is how it is in most sci-fi movies) but there always seems to be gravity inside ships
1b: Interesting... somehow the gravity field affects the water in the cup, but not any of the occupants. I think if the ship had a sci-fi way of producing artificial gravity, such an artificial gravity would uniformly override any external gravity or vice versa (external gravity would overpower the artificial gravity)
1b: I wonder if the asteroid collision is because of her rerouting.
1b: Wait. Why would you lead with mobile infantry. Why not like a bombing run first?
1b: I don't get what the mistake is... (She said "This isn't random or light. Someone made a mistake.") [Apparently earlier they were given the intel that the plasma jets shot would be light and random. But upon arrival, the captain observes that the plasma jets were neither random nor light."]
1b: Hmm. That big ship seems to maneuver too quickly for its size.
1b: Hehe. Why would he break the line of formation?
1b: He seems to have shot at the brainstem... but the creature is able to get one more strike in. [apparently the film is a satire on modern western fascism]
1b: "Frankly I think of the idea of a bug that thinks offensive."
1b: She notices that there's almost no wounded at all (most are KIA and very few WIA or MIA)
1b: Hehe. It's the teacher from their hometown
1b: Okay, here we go. "MI mops up" and here we see the bombers lay waste to the planet first... Why wasn't that the case before? Either it was and they didn't show it (which I think would be weird) or it wasn't and that was an intended strategy.
1b: An entire troop outnumbering the bugs and having trouble is very different from Carl claiming it's easy to take down by shooting the bugs in the brain stem
1b: they're left alive
1b: he asked why
1b: sucks his brain
1b: brain bug

Terminator Genisys (2015)
20231027:
Overall I guess this movie was good. Especially from a time consistent multiple timeline point of view. Kind of. I guess there exists a timeline where... I don't know. The action was definitely fun.
Instant Comments:
1a: movie begins recapping Skynet deciding to destroy humans and then Judgment Day and then robot infiltrators pretending to be human, which the people call Terminators. Then John Connor finding Kyle (the caption had indicated earlier it is Kyle speaking). (Based on what I remember, John Connor is the son of Sarah Connor in Terminator 2: Judgment Day and while I don't remember Terminator 3, I would think that Kyle could be John's dad) [hmm based on the scene later where Kyle is being sent back, it suggests this happened in The Terminator, but I don't remember there being a Kyle... hmm]
1a: "if i could have it any other way I would"
1a: "fate. first tactical time weapon. skynet just used it" (I guess that would be the first Terminator movie where T100 goes back to kill Sarah Connor) [t800 not t100]
1a: Is this a de-aged Arnold? his hair looks different
1a: "everything I know about her..."
1a: oh no watch out!
1a: "you didn't think it would be that easy did you?"
1a: oh there are two Arnold's. though the "good" one is a T800. also the "good" one looks more like older Arnold. but... well that kind of explains why we didn't just see a repeat of the t100 going to the biker bar but... I don't totally get it. is it a reboot? does the future and pass kind of change? are there multiple timelines? [actually it is t800 not t100, and yes, this film is considered a reboot]
1a: ooh a t1000 model?
1a: nice CG coming out of the mirror
1a: ah. Emilia Clarke. I saw her for the first time in Secret Invasion
1a: Haha. "still breathing" "good then you should be able to mate with Kyle Resse in this timeline"
1a: hehe, the awkward smile like from T2
1a: hehe. "old. not obsolete"
1a: wait... Kyle is supposed to be his own grandfather or his own father? I think grandfather... but then what about the straight line thing...
1a: "I'll be there"
1b: taking the long way... so he'll be older
1b: hehe "bite me"
1b: huh Emilia Clarke does look like a young Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) sometimes
1b: hehe carrying a big teddy bear
1b: hmm something is fishy... I'm guessing Pops will come and shoot this John... that doesn't quite explain how he knows all this info about Sarah
1b: nice I called it. but yeah... still doesnt explain how he knew
1b: interesting. a fuse of human and machine.
1b: magnet MRI and terminators...
1b: that's pretty cool (a fragmented John trying to pull away from the MRI)
1b: well... Pops hasn't been wrong so far, but it is sensible of Kyle to say that he could have hidden directives [though uncharacteristic of the character (e.g., after being the good Teminator in T2, I don't see Arnold willing to play a character that in some plot twist turns bad]
1b: hmm... if Skynet wins, I feel like it wouldn't want time travel. existence of time travel would allow humans a chance to go back in time to destroy Skynet
1b: hmm... the culmination of their competition with the hand... (Pops hand seems to be malfunctioning) that could be a problem
1b: she said only pops knew the location... (oh but John is from an alternate timeline, so it's possible for him to know things without her telling him)
1b: "rule this."
1b: epic bus flip
1b: good thing she was wearing her seat belt as instructed by Pops
1b: whoa so badass. he left the car while it was still drifting
1b: "I'm 14 rounds short of an acceptable"
1b: "I use them to find my keys"
1b: she makes sure to tell the young Kyle about the line (so it seems he's not his own grandfather?)
1b: hmm he shot the tanker, which technically puts the driver's life at risk and potentially the lives of others, but perhaps tactically worth to save the world?
1b: "I'll be back"
1b: "John Connor talks too mucb"
1b: "until I was laid off"
1b: hmm he can't push button because he has a directive to not kill Sarah Connor
1b: "my existence is inevitable why can't you accept it?" "because we're human"
1b: huh. his cpu is gonna go in that liquid so either he can be resurrect in the liquid... or recover his cpu
1b: hmm... they may have destroyed this Skynet but I feel... the concept of Skynet is inevitable. why wouldn't the owner of that company try to rebuid?
1b: "remember Genysis is Skynet" (so the reason why that is needed implies there is a timeline in which Skynet exists... but this Kyle Reese he told wouldn't be part of thay futute. oh wait, but I guess the implication is that it will cross over to the other timeline; that actually makes sense)
1b: "You're right. I can choose"
1b: hehe the smile.

Cliffhanger (1993)
20231025:
I suppose overall I enjoyed the movie.
Instant Comments:
is he free soloing? and on a roof? jeez
yikes so tense...
oh no... [one thing I wondered is why he didn't try to drop his other hand to grab her... as he was cabled in.... Though easy for me to say, I wouldn't even dare go across. Also she wasn't injured so she could have just climbed down...][among different reasons why the scene would be considered unrealistic, one person wrote "in those conditions, they probably would have attempted a guided descent, or a bucket pickup well before they considered a zip line rescue across a 1000 meter drop."]
is this transfer person the bad guy
oh no, the transfer person tried to warn about the hijack
hehe... "why didn't you send the money first?" (greedy bad guys - I guess that's the thing with movies and money plots, always someone wanting it all) [likely not far from the truth]
Ha! "get him to a hospital, fast" + throws him
hehe "dont bother buckling up, you may not want to survive this"
ah ok. so it turns out the transfer guy was placed there on purpose
hmm I mean I think Jess was right. It was more Hal"s fault for bringing her up there
lol kill when he comes down.. why risk having one guide when they could just keep the two? hehe tosses the case [I see... he knew that by throwing away the case, they would have to keep at least one of them alive to get one of the two remaining cases]
I wonder [lost the thought]
yikes that face friction burn
"gravity's a bitch isn't it"
hehe "it costs a fortune to heat the place"
if they kill Hal, it's their grave, right?
he said it's slick... so near the top she'll slip?
hehe bats... can bats do harm?
why didn't he just kill him
oh, cause he wanted to try to reclaim the money...
huh he gave up his advantage of surprise by entering the cave. what an idiot
tch. some martial arts. kind of unexpected
he seems stronger than he looks
jeez... quite a comeback kill
hehe "this rope is 60 years old will it hold" "I don't think so" "bad answer"
oh no... first they killed a kid and now they killed an old man rescuer
in 15 second intervals
wow... he makes himself the only one who can fly the chopper
if Gabe memorized the locations then surely Hal probably did too.
wow that blood coming off Hal's face from the kick
chuckle. thats a good line "season's over asshole"
oh no. did he shoot zhesd or not [not sure what I meant by "zhesd"]
the blood trail looks like he went under the bridge
okay... lol.
I assume Qualen took her hostage (he's trying to contact Travers)
huh. are the blades really so sensitive to a bag of money?
so the three main characters live, but Frank and the one kid died... it all made for an action packed movie but the outcome wasn't that great. well to some extent justice was served as all the bad guys were eliminated...

ah ok. so it turns out the transfer guy was placed there on purpose
hmm I mean I think Jess was right.

Léon: The Professional (1994)
20231024:
Overall, I liked most of this film. I suppose I had a different expectation for the ending. Actually, I also felt the middle would consist of more lessons between Léon and Mathilda.
Instant Comments:
Hehe. Why would they all need to turn towards the elevator. Perhaps one of them should cover the stairs...
Ooo. That neck snap sound effect...
Strange for this character to be in this business and panic in this situation.
Character turns around: Gary Oldman
Huh. He goes to sleep upright?
His smile and interest in the movie
"Always like this."
What an idiot... Kills one person and makes a run for it.
Jeez... how many pullets and he's still alive?
Hehe. Reloading cause he's mad about the suit.
Seems like a bunch of amateurs.
She does her best to walk past her own apartment and towards Leon's place.
Hehe. He was prepping the gun to through the door.
I can't believe this is her first role.
Hehe. I don't believe he would have done it given his self-imposed rule
Smile. Fires some rounds. "How's that?"
Hehe. Carrying the plant.
"And stop saying okay all the time, okay?" "Okay."
Wonder all that he's checking.
Haha. "Who should I hit?" "Whoever."
"Can we try with real bullets now?" "Not today let's pack up."
Smile. Madonna, Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin. He gets Gene Kelly.
Smile. They have fun (spraying water)
Is that man in the corner dead?
Wonder what sort of trouble that will get her into. "Except he's not my father. He's my lover."
Oh no... returning home. What if one of the thugs is still waiting there?
Huh. She has money hidden... but she could have just asked Leon... why did she feel like she needed to retrieve money
strange: Gary Oldman's character working at the D.E.A.
Hehe. Kicked out.
Yikes. He had to stitch himself up.
Foreshadowing. "If something happens to me someday..."
Huh. What's her plan? To kill this guy?
Why does he have to crack the pill with his head up and why does it cause him to choke? [Librium]
Twisted. "Because I take no pleasure in taking a life, if it's from a person who doesn't care about it."
"I think it was somethin' personal." "Death is... whimsical today."
I can't believe he would have shot her right there in the bathroom. How would he explain that?
"If something goes wrong, I left you 20 grand on the table." Oh. That explains why she retrieved the money
What? While the question was right... (code) the usage of the information doesn't make sense... surely the purpose of a secret knock is exactly for this purpose, so that an incorrect knock could be conveyed as a communication between the parties aware of the true knock.
What kind of team is this? They seem so unprofessional (go check)
Hehe. They shoot their own man.
I'm not sure why he has to be discrete about it. Didn't he just order the ambush to kill Leon in the first place?
"Stansfield." "At your service." "This... is from... Mathilda." "Shit."
"[...] And if you don't help me, I'll be dead by tonight."

Castlevania: Nocturne
S1E1
Richter Belmont
Julia Belmont
Ada gets upset with the boy for staying
Smile. "That makes... absolutely no sense"
"You can tell your messiah I'm here."
1=20231016
S1E2
wow that's a tragic backstory (mercy kills her sister before fleeing)
dang... cover blown and severely outnumbered
"glory be to god"
1=20231016
S1E3
Is the plantation owner able to go in sunlight? [I recall the one character near the end of the original series never saw the sunrise and she burned up when she finally went into the sun]
when the priestess informs her vision, it happens that the messiah is a woman
is this vampire [Olrox] out in the daylight?
so Olrox is acting independently of the messiah?
huh. Edouard, as a night creature, protected her
1=20231019
S1E4
Olrox and this knight [Mizrak]
Olrox explains some plot; Abbot is a forgemaster
he still declares belief in god, even as he has just slept with a vampire
"one god. and you think he can protect you"
hah! "and you just stumbled upon it one day while picking for flowers?" she doesn't answer
this vampire waves her hand through the sunbeam and it singes
Edouard speaks. I recall precedence for this in Castlevania
hmm they seem outmatched, or at least outnumbered (unless Olrox for some reason sides with them; which is unlikely because of what gappened when Richter was younger)
Maria's mom [Tera] knows of Drolta Tzuentes
huh the Abott holds her back from striking Maria
hmmm... Richter easily defeats the Marquis
hehe only to run in fright on sight of Olrox
1=20231019
S1E5
Annette acts rashly
shouldn't you get back to the chateau?
Sekhmet is mentioned by Vaublanc [Sekhmet - goddess of war and goddess of medicine in Egyptian mythology (Wikipedia)]
underwhelming revenge / end to their meeting (Vaublanc and Annette)
he reveals he is Maria's father
Juste. Juste Belmont. Your grandfather.
1=20231020
S1E6
I wondered and asked Ada if the moon, as it reflects the sun, would be bright enough to burn a vampire. Ada figured cause we can safely look at the Moon, that it can't be so bad. [20231111: multiple answers on the internet point to the 1921 film Nosferatu introducing sunlight as a weakness to vampires.]
why doesn't he carry a weapon?
Lydie & Maxim (Lydie, Juste, and Maxim and characters from Castelvania: Harmony of Dissonance (GBA) (2002); the player plays as Juste, and can play as Maxim after beating the game)
Evil will always win
There is light in this darkness
Mohican - oh that explains Olrox's accent
walking on water
maybe he'll use magic in desperation (Richter's whip has been taken)
"I'm much younger than you. That's probably all it is."
1=20231020
S1E7
with only this and next episode left what could happen? especially wkth Richter having a power spike
hehe the Marquis's wife holding his head, stroking it
hehe Olrox doesn't stand
wait... did they get all of them?
ah, this one floating
nice, Richter (I figured there was a good chance Tera could die that moment)
Snort. "bit of a dick"
hmm... okay... it seemed that Olrox was made to bow and this would give him reason to form a temporary alliance and help the group (he supplies a book to them)
"just read the fucking book"
I suddently thought why can't Olrox just kill Erzsebet... he seems quite powerful (then I thought about what Olrox said: I can't be seen doing anything right now; but... it's not clear why not)
crazy Abbot... initially he said he would protect his daughter and now he switches his mind
knocking - I'm guessing it's that one knight [Mizrat] who disagrees with some of this
Devourerer of Light.... is it permanent or just a solar eclipse?
1=20231021
S1E8
beginning here Tera supposes it's just an eclipse but Annette says it's magic
Maria certainly has her share of talent
Olrox helps a bit
I feel like why wouldn't things come from the other side through this Hell door (earlier Richter sarcastically said nothing could go wrong...) (Annette begins trying to push the machine theough)
"not powerful enough"
Alucard saves them, killing Ezrsebet's right hand [Drolta Tzuentes]
hehe Annette asks "who is Dracula?"
1=20231021
S2E1
Hmm... I guess in film when someone gives you the choice like that... it clearly implies they are stronger. I can't think of an example where the person was bluffing. But in real life... I guess no one is so skilled as to take on multiple persons that such a statement would be taken seriously.
Is he looking for his father?
Hehe. His comment on nothing there.
Hmmm... I wonder why he was down on his knees in reaction to the resurrection. Did he expect it not to work? Though I certainly did not expect it to work. Does it take his energy to forge? [I went to reddit and someone asked a similar question. The first reply said he believed vampires have no soul so it shouldn't have worked, but since it did work, then it implies they do have souls][Note that I initially thought she was just resurrected, but on second thought, I realized she is actually a night creature now... but the fact she was able to be fully awake seems to be... well I'll assume it's a product of the power level of her original soul]
1=20250218
S2E2
Good to see Juste in his uniform.
1=20250219 AM Hours
S2E3
This lieutenant has high awareness... just for the sake of the plot? I thought it was a rare event with Edouard being the one such off occurrence
Wow... being branded. The first for being loyal and the second... for not being loyal... hehe. Such chaos cannot actually be good for followers
Hmm... is this like the Dark Side of the Force... will it turn her evil?
Hmm making such a large army... how did it fail in the first series and why will it fail here... looks like the easy win is just to make a large enough army greater than the rest of the world...
Uh... what was that about?
1=20250219
S2E4
What would be cool is if they revive Dracula to help fight Sekhmet [oh, I forgot that at the end of the previous series he was alive... so assuming he wasn't killed in the 300 years that have passed then he would be alive... but I suppose he would have no interest in mettling with vampire affairs]
Holy crap... what was her mom trying to help her do... gain power but... without consequence? Like now she summons this crazy dragon
I can't imagine she would actually kill her father... Because if she does... I guess she wouldn't redeem herself back to the good side
Wow. Okay so they're deciding to have her turn evil. Ritcher will have to defeat her...
Ooo... clutch save
It seems her father got consume... so a chance he will make a reappearance
Huh. Tera gives a smirk at the sight.
Hahaha. the punchline "not having children though, that makes a lot of sense"
Hmm... if they're lucky then it's not about the body at all (re: "What do you want me to do?")
1=20250219
S2E5
Why is he here? Olrox
Nice... a revolution of night creatures
Hmm. I feel like consuming the heart wouldn't be good for Erzsebet... wouldn't she just become Sekhmet and lose her being as Erzsebet
"No place for us anymore" I wonder what a modern day Belmont would be like (maybe similar to Devil May Cry). Or a futuristic Belmont
1=20250219
S2E6
hehe. Ritcher falls asleep before hearing about Alucard mention Trevor Belmont as being his family
Ogun mentions realms of Gods... and not crossing into it himself
haha! Yes yes she confessed it while were braiding eaxh others hairs and we were talking about you
1=20250219
S2E7
Wow. A civil war among the night creatures
She's chewing on something to perhaps suggest Alucard was defeated but I think he's such a story favorite that no way [oh... it was Drolta vs Alucard, not Erzsebet vs Alucard]
Definitely great that Maria's arc played out (she learned to maintain control to the extent that she can even control the dragon)
That big dragon thing was Olrox? Probably right, because like 99% he was written to stay and fight after thinking about Mizrak's request to stay and fight
Huh. "Not the first time you saved my life."
Wow. Their infusion of power into the blast - I assume the three elements lightning fire and ice - was awesome.
Is Richter thinking to have them reunite in that body... since it's weak then perhaps Erzsebet would burn up?
Wasn't Annette supposed to sing some kind of song?
Hehe. Plot twist...
Wait. So did Sekhmet reunite in Erzsebeth after all or was it interrupted by Drolta?
1=20250219
S2E8
Wow. Alucard power level is next level. He is fighting on par with this embpowered Drolta. Though maybe he's channeling some reserve since his eye glows red and this power level can't last forever
Hehe. "I thought it was what you wanted"
What a final fight
Hehe. "Where were you when I was young?"
Hmm. Alucard gives a disapproving look to Maria ("Good. They deserve to die.")
Huh. The "Death" creature seems to have taken Tera who is smiling

47 Ronin (2013)
20231013:
Overall this movie was underwhelming.
Instant Comments:
Why would they release him at all?
Freaky floating hair... Seems unappetizing
Great will and trust to not draw his sword. (on an unrelated note, I can't remember where I've seen this actor [his name is Hiroyuki Sanada; among his credits and looking at pictures, I'm guessing I recognize him from Bullet Train])
Hehe. They cut.
Smile. I think mine is broken. (Interesting. Keanu Reeve's character [Kai] made it look effortless to cut the tree)
Hmm... While I haven't been super attentive, perhaps they should have been tactically prepared for a trap
Hmm. This evil person... I don't know. Lacks something. Perhaps traditionally such a character is attractive, and subtely evil (e.g., Charlize Theron's Evil Queen in Snow White and the Huntsmen). But perhaps here this character is overtly evil and doesn't portray herself as attractive. "I knew it was you. I could see your belly sticking out..." Smile. He said it so neutrally. Very cool
"A samurai wears two swords."
"Now. We are 47." [apparently the underlying story is based on an actual historical event: forty-seven ronin (Wikipedia)]
"Know now. The depth of my master's courage."
Hmm. I feel like... a better story would be to set up that power early in the movie, then for a particular reason he swears to not use it, only for him to choose to use it here in the end. Instead here they only had him earlier refer to the not using demonic powers, so that when he does use it here in this scene, it lacks impact.
wow. All these men to perform seppuku. What a waste of honorable manpower.

Instant Comments:
hehe one of the orphans bids "see you tomorrow"
hmm... was the other ship not in the condition to follow?
why would a sea beast want to attack a ship anyways... like if the crew were food... seems like too much work. just go eat a whale or fish
I bet it would wake and take the captain
hmm captain is carving a piece as trophy
hah! called it.
oh. rescued? how'd that happen?
oh, he was the boy that was rescued (Jacob)
hehehe slowly brings the tankard to his mouth
even dead it'll drag us to the bottom
Maisie Brumble...
hehe Jacob allows it
huh the nostril... why wasn't water entering [apparently if you look closely there's a clear membrane that opens and closes]
what fine motor control (catches Maisie by the foot)
interesting that it entered land
baby sea beast
"that is so specific"
walrus
hehe I'll sense it
this one's like a crab
Ben asks "why is the red one helping the purple one be dead?
aww many arrows stuck in its back
smart girl / Maisie
oh in this scene it turns out its not arrows its harpoons
"why would we"
hehe "you got something in your ear"

hehe right in half

Ben asked "why they pull it out again?" "they want to caught it"
