20180831:
Overall, the movie lacked action and was dense in story. I think it better caters to anyone who has either read the source manga or seen either anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist or Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. To be clear, this means that full knowledge of any one of the three is sufficient background improve one's enjoyment of the movie, because otherwise the plot points of the movie go by far too quickly for someone unfamiliar with the series. However, with respect to the plot, then the movie deviates in several ways to save time while also sticking close to the primary story of the original manga (and hence the story of FMA:B*).
In any case, I don't think this movie is worth watching. If you haven't read the manga or seen either anime, then the movie attempts to show too much in too little time. If you have read the manga or seen either anime, then this movie adds very little with respect to plot. In fact, fans might get upset at how the film might be butchering the plot. However, what this movie does offer to fans is the novelty of seeing the interpretation of the manga/anime as live action.
*The plot of the first anime series, FMA, diverges from the plot of the manga (which at the time was still being completed) and has a different ending (Wikipedia says this was by request of the manga's author, Hiromu Arakawa).

20191014 Comment:
I was going through the list of movies which I've seen and looking for ones which lacked a blog post. I was surprised when I came down to Fullmetal Alchemist, because I thought it was an error - I thought I was referring to the anime. At first I pulled up a trailer for the movie and it looked familiar, but I could have just watched the trailer. So then I pulled up my collection of notes and I discovered that I had already seen this movie.

I already finished the series so I just... In my mind, I don't want to see Nina's fate.
What a beating.

It takes me a long time to semi-adjust to Ed's blonde hair. (After he beats up Nina's dad)
This scene of Al's memories.
Ada cries when Al says "Brother. It hurts... to see you hurt." [The corresponding caption is "Ed. I do. It does hurt." Prior to the line, Ed resumes attacking Al and Al says "It hurts." Ed responds, "Liar! You don't even feel pain!" After the line, Ed promises Al he'll get Al's body back.]
Credits:
During the credits, the brothers, when they are kids, are shown mixing ingredients and doing research for human transmutation
After the credits an ambiguous scene is shown with Envy and Chameleon.

Stripes (1981)
20180831:
Stripes is a movie about two friends who quit their jobs and join the army. They are, however, up to no good and create all sorts of fun and chaos.
At first I started watching this movie in background while scanning receipts, but then I ended up giving most of my attention to it. It was decent.
I suppose my only critique of the film involved the ending: the ending was silly because the protagonists got rewarded for a situation which they caused.
Overall, Stripes is largely in line with other comedy movies of it's era (1980s) and after seeing a handful of them I'd say they've grown on me. On that note, I recommend this movie to those who enjoy other comedy movies released during this time period.*
Netflix determined the movie for me as a 96% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.
*It should also be noted, for those that need to know, there are a couple short scenes with nudity (breasts).

omg I love that he corrected her "anymore"
smile it looked like Elfo was getting the pillow for Mop Girl and then he sat on it
wow, Jerry killed God? is that possible?
hahaha. "boom! love conquers everything. and anger helps"
hmm. I imagine it would be a good twist if Bean pulled off some kind of switcheroo here same as what got Mora killed...

hahaha "Get out of here Turbish!"
the camera is zooming in on Elfo but it is more likely to be announced Mop Girl
Queen Mop Girl Miri
hehe Freckles theme song: humming the Disenchantment theme song
Satan crosses out three names from the book of dead: Bean, Mora, and Luci. [apparently names in that book are destined to go to Hell, but by crossing them out they wouldnt; with that being said, Luci went to Heaven despite being in that book... so... not sure this theory makes sense][a different article phrases it as Luci no longer being required to return]

Interesting opening ("See you guys tomorrow.")
Voice of Mr. Burns.
Hahahaha. "Oh boy, did I look I her." That was surprisingly funny.
"No tummy touching."
"Elfo has left the building."
Cliff-"faller" makes me want to keep watching.
Okay one more.

Smile. The walruses.
Decent resolution.
20180826 AM
P1E3
Haha. All that talking about the band. "What the hell?"
Huh, I don't remember if the first two episodes were this way, but this episode seems to lay it on thick.
20181119
P1E4
Ha. Low tide.

Bean and Luci (Eric Andre) |
P1E5
Points out the flaw in what they prayed for
Hahahahaha. "I'm a midwife. Excuse me a moment."
"Just use the force. Centripetal force." (References Star Wars)
20181210 AM
P1E6
"Plus there's laces holding the skin on."
Hahaha. Picks up the keg.
Hahaha. "Is joke. Or is?"
"Of Humid Bondage" references 1915 novel Of Human Bondage
Hahaha. Hahaha. That was good. (bowing during the escape)

P1E8
"[...] work, starve or eat. Now there's a fourth thing. Entertainment."
"We'll find the one true god next year."
Hahahaha. A single trap with two parts that is bypassed by parties of three or more.
"Unlike other villains, I shant be telling you my plans."
References the James Bond movie Goldfinger. "You expect me to crawl around this overheated hellscape until I hear a beep?" "No, Mr. Elfo, I expect you to fry."

Queen Oona (Tress MacNeille), King Zog (John DiMaggio), and Queen Dagmar (Sharon Horgan) |
P1E9
Ha! I burst out laughing when the sword went back into his chest. The prince from the first episode was alive. But now he's most likely dead.
Hahaha. "I demand a second opinion. Touch me somewhere else." - Elfo to Touchy.
Hahahaha. "But he doesn't mind [something about fooling around]"
Mysterious half!?!
Interesting choice.
How would she have recognized Bean so quickly?
20181217 PM
P1E10
What about his current wife?
"Favorite food on three." "Beer."
Great cliffhanger.
There's a short cliff after the credits of Elfo washing ashore and being pulled up by two hands.
20181217 PM
P2E1
"My 24-hour shift."
Ah. That makes sense. (Jerry's condition explained)
If there's signal loss, one can just be more repetitive.
"Stairway to Hell." (as oppose to "Stairway to Heaven.")
Uh... couldn't she have just flipped the level?
20190926
P2E2
"Jerry, what if I told you all of that was to make you stronger?" "I'd say you're a sick bastard."
"A surprisingly large number of popes."
References Futurama. "Bite my shiny metal axe."
"My soul's gonna die. I'm gonna go to superhell."
"Now that I'm a ghost I'll help you make pottery."
20190926
P2E3
Lol. His little men barely made progress.
Last one was good. "Letting the hanging begin."
20190926
P2E4
"Who's sleeping now, Carl?"
Hahaha. "At least the reptile sex was quiet."
Huh. "I don't turn into a bear when I put it on, I turn into a human when I take it off." [Oh, it means by nature she's more of an animal.]
Kissandra.
Creepy ending.
20190926
P2E5
Wash day
Lol. "Take off your boots."
HAHAHA. I didn't expect that. (elves wash back down)
The king and queen ogre seem to be the same voices as those aliens in Futurama. I don't remember the species at the moment.
Elfo is half ogre?
20190928
P2E6
HAHAHA. "But you didn't do anything! You just watched a circus." "Get a barrel Odval."

1a: Ha. That's what I essentially thought: "Are you from the future?"
1b: "stience"
1b: "human rights"
1b: "fair trial, execution, and appeal"
1b: Haha. "I didn't want to wake you. Or invite you."
1b: "very clever turn of phrase"
1b: "Farnswarth District"
1b: Hmm. Who is most at fault there?
1a=20190928, 1b=20190929 AM
P2E10
Hehe. The logic with the rats.
Ha. Beheaded for wearing the crown.
Oh Elfo.
Something to bite down on.
"But I don't think she'd ever try to kill him." Gasp. "GUILTY!"
Wow. Quite the finale.

Recap: Disnchantment: Part 2
I really like these recaps... I hardly remembered what happened in Part 2.
1=20210703
P3E1
"Like any two numbers, these don't add up."
20210703
P3E2
20210703
P3E3
"He's remarkably speedy for such a beachball of a boy."
"I'm gonna break all your toys."
"Hi Bean, I'm a man now."
"You're attention please, Derek has a mustache now."
20210703
P3E4
Hahahaha. Porn joke (wrong box, Elfo, and discarded)
20210703
P3E5
Ha. One of the words in the deck was "Disenchantment."
Was the deck stacked full of words beginning with "D" to set up for that alone or was there other jokes which I didn't get?
The mermaid was left behind!
20210704
P3E6
Hahaha. I didn't see that coming "All I had to do was put a ring on it."
So we're clued in with the necklace that Bean's experience was probably real, but was the removal of the necklace intentional? Does Bean still believe it's real? It seemed implied through song that was Mora's intention (to send Bean back) but the reason would be unclear.
20210704
P3E7
Interesting plot twist (that Odval and the other guy planned for pushing Zog over the edge of craziness by having him witness the orgy
Oona seems to have known but then why did she show up. Also, why did she not let Bean know
20210704
P3E8
20210704
P3E9
Smile. "Mommy wait, my needs outweight your scorn." (to be fair, she did tell him not to follow her... he likely would not have if she didn't mention it)
Smile. Melted butter.
Ha. 50/50 on regular gumballs and suicide gumballs.
20210704
P3E10
The crown on the statue's head is already drooping before the statue maker would have neceessarily known that to be the case.
Their quotes read "Poisoned by love and arsenic" (Yog), "Actions speak louder than woids" (Zog), "All hail me" (Derek), and "This crown can suck it" (Tiabeanie).
"How did she know?"
That little girl is a wizard.
"Welcome to heaven, Luci." "Hell no!"
20210705 12:00 AM
P4E1
He got his wings!
"Luci in the sky with diamonds."
Ha. Nice one Bean (she manages to stamp her mom's hand... which is funny because Dagmar took the dagger because she suspected Bean would do something like that to begin with)
20220630
P4E2
Was that already mentioned in a previous episode, that Elfo's mom is half ogre? I recall in a very very old episode his dad wanted to tell him a secret and never got around to it
Good joke. "The compensator."
Hansel and Gretel
What a coincidence that Luci's body should hit the window
20220630
P4E3
Ha. The guy jumps out.
Huh. Dr. Fulton. Mulberry. It seems as if this doctor might be crazy?
When does Zog honk?
I don't remember Freckles... [he's the dummy]
Ha! Nice one. "Guy can have two grandmas."
Well at least he can use the skull to dig out.
Hahaha. "Hold still, I don't want to nick your throat."
Masturbation joke.
20220701
P4E4
I thought Bean would accidentally murder someone she cares about
Smile. Is the self-actualization wearing off?
20220701
P4E5
Those bastards they're stealing the escape pod we stole.
Wait... what?
The chair is still sliced up
Freckles
Lol what... he just threw the claws down the chute?
This little bit with Elfo followed by Luci followed by Bean as the extended bit
Wow, that's a serious memory (lost his voice to the cigar)
Why would they reveal that they're alive?
20220701
P4E6
Oh they're like elves that evolved to being underwater (treasure room) [oh, they're not elves, they're Sea Trogs]
Cousin Roger.
hehe. "Oh God! Actually Satan! Please!
She'll probaby get saved by her mermaid love smashing through that pane of a mermaid [Mora]
20220701
P4E7
Hehe, she asks for Elfo's judgement so that she could take the opposite conclusion
Waffles and more waffles
Hehe. The bear is his
Hmm, her vision suggests the elves were winning until something shocked them. But why would these bones have knives in them.
Oh no... (Ursula)
Did they use the same person taht voices Derek? Sounds like a similar voice [yes, Tress MacNeille voices both of them; on IMDb, other common roles she voices on the show are Queen Oona, the Fairy, and Arch Druidess]
The camera pulls back. Did they capture Ursula?
20220701
P4E8
Ha. The king gets in line
Hahahaha. Poor Derek. ("Finally")
A joke that Luci and mop girl were fooling around in the closet, but they weren't.
No you fool it's not what you want it's what you deserve
Elf to Trog [So my thought about the Sea Trogs coming from elves might not be too far off?]
20220701
P4E9
Ah she pulls the hair and its her own. I had this in the back of my mind as in the previous episode the captions didn't say Dagmar laughing but woman laughing... it might not be true but this event in her dream makes it likely
20220701
P4E10
Her dad warns her about the switcheroo
Hmm. Dagmar again...
Mora.
20220701
P5E1
huh I don't remember how Season 4 ended but oh well.
hehe passage in the book
I guess the real Bean will overhear
there's a sound of a knuckle crack in caption, i rewind to see the hand of the body move; this is interesting because it did cross my mind when Elfo was talking to the body that the body might come alive.
20230926
P5E2
Hehe. Zog's explanation is all true but sounds crazy.
hehe. "Faster harder. Right there. Yes. Oh yes."
hmm why have to bring Mora around everywhere?
20230930
P5E3
hehe "it's easier if you think of it as one continuous cliff"
hehe "whole women"
hehe heartless comment + take baby carriage
hehe "and look what's coming soon"
20230930
P5E4
Jerry? did he come back alive in the previous season? I vaguely recall Luci freed him
hehe Jerry died again
20230930
P5E5
hatch
"help I'm too lazy to swim"
I'm curious if he'll be the one to shoot himself (Elfo asks the ball to take him back to before he was shot dead)
hahahaha this yes master bit is good
we're not human
it's revealed that mop girl is an elf ("touch my ear again and I'll kill you")
20230930
P5E6
wait when did they find the head...
20230930
P5E7
that's a great speech/breakthrough - not far from the truth of "loonies" in the real world
they're charging you up
20230930
P5E9
omg I love that he corrected her "anymore"
smile it looked like Elfo was getting the pillow for Mop Girl and then he sat on it
wow, Jerry killed God? is that possible?
hahaha. "boom! love conquers everything. and anger helps"
hmm. I imagine it would be a good twist if Bean pulled off some kind of switcheroo here same as what got Mora killed...
1=20231001
P5E10
hahaha "Get out of here Turbish!"
the camera is zooming in on Elfo but it is more likely to be announced Mop Girl
Queen Mop Girl Miri
hehe Freckles theme song: humming the Disenchantment theme song
Satan crosses out three names from the book of dead: Bean, Mora, and Luci. [apparently names in that book are destined to go to Hell, but by crossing them out they wouldnt; with that being said, Luci went to Heaven despite being in that book... so... not sure this theory makes sense][a different article phrases it as Luci no longer being required to return]
Credits:
After the credits, it is ordered to close the drawbridge which results in the castle disappearing

Demetri Martin: The Overthinker (2018)
20180823:
I love Demitri Martin's observational humor.
Unfortunately, the director's choice of narration occasionally detracted from the comedy. With that being said, I applaud the courage to experiment with a new style of narration and there may have been tweaks to the style that would improve the humor rather than ruin it.
Overall, if you're a fan of Demitri Martin, then I would recommend this special, because it mostly what you would expect from him. As I mentioned, the special occasionally pulls back and the viewer will hear Demetri narrating his thoughts; unfortunately, this is only sometimes funny.
Netflix determined the special for me as a 98% match.
[20181024 2129]
20230401:
Today I watched the first 17 minutes of this special. The first bit with animals was funny. I've had adjacent thoughts which were not necessarily comical in nature but I thought perhaps a lot of them could take a comical perspective.
[20230401][20230614 Edit]
Instant Comments:
great setup; foiled!
lol. ladyfinger in a donut hole
haha. donut hole and donut hole
rapper vs rappist
overthinking
a p-shirt.
hahahaha. M. W. A.; the A-hole
haha! "Spell Egg but don't finish."
smile. "How do you market cruises to people?"
hahahahahaha. His "woo-hoo" bit was good.
smile. About 75% of German Shepards are dogs.
ha. "Wednesday is spelled wrong."
haha. Delayed laughter for this: "The capital of Alaska is 'A'"
smile. "Sex... is the leading cause... of people."
ha. He mentions the oddity of the question "Did you find everything okay?"
ha! "I believe everything happens for a reason" bit.
hahaha. "Did Brian carry the toast over in his hand?" Wow.
