20170124:
I wanted to watch Queen of Katwe but I encountered video syncing errors and so I started watching this movie instead.
Unfortunately, the movie started slow and the time-travel based plot didn't make sense to me (though generally speaking they seldom do).
Thus, while the movie had its moments, I did not enjoy it enough to make any recommendations.
Paradox: The protagonist Jake went back in time after his grandfather died, eventually saves the day, returns to 2016, and his grandfather is alive. But if his grandfather wasn't alive, Jake wouldn't have gone back in time, and wouldn't have saved the day, and his grandfather should be dead...
Possible Explanation: According to the internet, the likely explanation is that Jake didn't return to July 2016 (when he first went back in time). Instead, he went to visit his grandfather in January 2016 (with the implication that his grandfather would still die six months later) and from there he started going back in time.
New Error: While the explanation given makes sense, viewers point out two contradicting lines of dialogue. The first consists of Emma telling Jake that killing Barron will somehow save Jake's grandfather Abe. The second consists of Barron stating that he had already killed Abe.
Instant Comments:
Asa Butterfield!
Blood on flashlight and continues....
Hey Miss Peregrine
Lol, such a freaky greeting.
Holy shit, Enoch's power is strange
Did she say "double loops"?
Strange... "Hello, this is Abe. How is everyone?"
Interesting power...
Haha. "Have you not been to Florida?"
Not sure why he had to go through multiple loops... [There wasn't a loop that led directly to 1943]

A Series of Unfortunate Events
[20170226]
The show can, from time to time, be strange to watch, but most of the time, it's funny and clever. It's also nice, as one who enjoys proper grammar and the intricacies of language, to watch a story that often makes language and language use a focal point.
20170216:
After finishing episode 8, Ada and I went back to episode 7 to look at the photo and see who their parents would be, if not the couple that was continuously shown to us.
As of 20171215, Netflix determined the series for me as a 76% match. Three days ago, it was determined to be an 89% match. This piques my interest, because I completed the entire first season and I thought a recommendation algorithm would prioritize such behavior. In any case, I decided to give the series a thumbs up.
20180427:
Today Ada and I started the second season. We watched the first and second episode.
[20180523]
20180606:
Ada and I finished Season 2 today. What a great series.
On a different note, we recently heard Neil Patrick Harris on NPR and he was answering some questions. One question was about the VFD tattoo on his ankle. He said that in Season 1 they applied a temporary tattoo, but between Season 1 and Season 2, he decided to go ahead and get the real thing.
Wrap-Up and Comments for Season 2:
The other Madame Lulu got the sugar bowl. They show her face. Beatrice was revealed not to have died, is this woman Beatrice?
In S2E07, Jacques says "It seems there may have been a survivor of the fire." It could be a different fire. It could have been referring to the Baudelaire children.
Of course, the cliffhanger, how the children will survive their current situation?

Rogue One (2016)
20170108:
This film was cool. It was nice having various questions being answered.
On the other hand, it was also bittersweet because there were so many great characters brought to life and yet this movie would be the last we'd see of them. In particular, I loved the character played by Donnie Yen.
Trailers: The Boss Baby (2017), Power Rangers (2017), Cars 3 (2017) (teaser), The Mummy (2017), Dunkirk (2017), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).
[20170111]
20170913:
I initially intended this to just be a screenshot viewing. But after about one and a half hours, I decided to finish it - though now and then I diverted my attention while it played in the background.
As before, I enjoyed the movie. It was darker than most other films in the Star Wars series. Unfortunately, it's role in answering questions rather than raising questions makes for a less exciting film. There's less of a surprise. If, however, one were to watch Rogue One prior to A New Hope, it's possible the movie would take a different effect - at least on the first viewing.
Netflix determined the movie for me as a 98% match. I decided to give the movie a thumbs up.
20190411 Comment:
I was writing up my notes for Solo: A Star Wars Story today and made a brief comparison to Rogue One. Subsequently, I went to my post for Rogue One, saw a picture of Jyn Erson (Felicity Jones), and Googled her name. That's when I learned that she was the same actress who played Jane Hawking in The Theory of Everything.
Instant Comments:
2: "I find that answer vague and unconvincing."
2: "Would you like to know the probability of her using that against you?" "It's high. It's very high."
2: "Did you know that wasn't me?"
2: "Are you kidding me? I'm blind."
2: "I'm one with the force, the force is with me."
2: I originally wondered why she didn't take the message with her, but now I realized she was emotionally shaken and Cassian, when he arrived to get her, was rushing her to go.
2: "Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, Director."
2: @1hr23min "Rogue One."
2: Senator Organa refers to Obi-Wan.
2: R2-D2 and C-3PO make a cameo.
2: Chirrut. When he walks out. And...

La La Land (2016)
20170107:
I don't keep up with the latest movie releases, but Ada heard about La La Land and wanted to go watch it. Since I didn't even look up any trailers or reviews, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a musical.
La La Land was an amazing movie.
Trailers: A Dog's Purpose (2017), The Zookeeper's Wife (2017), Patriots Day (2016), Gifted (2017), 20th Century Women (2016), The Shack (2017)
[20170304]
20240115:
This film was leaving Netflix and I remembered enjoying it. While I had given my mom a copy and can probably borrow it, I opted for the convience of seeing it on Netflix before it leaves. Of course, I'm sure it would return in the future. It's such a great movie for it not to be.
On 20240115, Netflix determined the movie for me as a 95% match. I decided to give the movie two thumbs up.
Instant Comments:
1: "No Jamal, you be trippin'."; 2: Hahaha.
2: WTF. "One woman shows are always terrible." Why'd he come see the show?
1: Ada cried when he told her to follow her dreams and go to Paris.
1: Unexpected ending.
2: This time I knew the ending and it made sense... Perhaps moreso that I'm older as well. On the one hand, in the dream sequence, they could have had a happy life together, but instead followed their dreams and that likewise has brought them happiness. I would say there are absolutely points in your life where following your dream makes sense, but sometimes dreams are just dreams. I guess the film is about showing the tension that is contained in the pursuit of one's dreams.

Captain America: Civil War (2016)
20170105
This movie had a lot of great action, but it suffered in regards to its story. Explicitly, there were gaps in the story that could have been filled in.
On a related note, Ant-Man got some good action moments, but he felt more out of place compared to Spider-Man.
In the end, I would still recommend this movie as an action movie. I would also add that I wish I had the opportunity to watch Captain America: Winter Soldier (2014) beforehand.

20180714:
Today I was at the hospital and saw a part of this film while waiting in the lobby. I watched from the scene where War Machine gets shot down to the scene where Tony Stark has chased Bucky Barnes, they're now falling down, and Steve Rogers jumps on for a "group hug."

Instant Comments:
Nice use of his shield. Cooler than previous movies.
Wait, is that Punisher?
What? What happened to Pepper? [Answered shortly]
It is unfair. Given at one point they saved the world.
"Who's putting coffee grounds in a disposal?"
She looks slightly different, but I recognized Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) as being the leading actress in Everwood.
Black Panther?
Hmm. I didn't watch Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Martin Freeman!
Ha. "I know a guy."
Hahaha. "Spider-Boy"
"Not even your unusually attractive aunt?"
This young Peter Parker is a nice angle.
"I'm gonna sit here so you move away."
Lol, they smile after his kiss.
"Hey Buddy I think you lost this!"
Haha. 1 vs. 2. I'd say Spider-Man steals the show here.
Lol. Thought it was a water truck.
"They're not stopping."
What was Ant-Man's motivation for joining? I think that was a little weak.
Haha. References the Hoth scene in Star Wars.
Holy shit.
"Sorry." [Tony gives him a blast.]
Tony uses the term "manchurian candidate" to refer to Bucky being someone who has been brainwashed to execute orders upon receiving a sequence of code words.
"The living aren't done with you yet."
Haha. Stan Lee. "Are you, Tony Stank?"
