Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

20180713:
I watched first three episodes.

Jerry Seinfeld

On 20180713, Netflix determined the series for me as a 98% match.

20180714:
I watched episodes four and five.

On 20191018, Netflix determined the series for me as a 84% match.

Guest: Stephen Colbert

20191019:
Today I watched episodes six to eight.

On a different note, I realized today that the series was originally released back in 2012 and distributed on Crackle. Then, in 2018, the show was moved to Netflix where the first nine seasons were combined into four collections.

Get Smart (2008)

20180712:
The story was decent and there were a good number of jokes. However, some moments were more clever than others.

Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell)

One unfortunate aspect of the movie was that I didn't sense much chemistry between Anne Hathaway and Steve Carell. While I generally enjoy watching both actors, their performance in this movie was a letdown.

With that being said, the comedy spy genre can really be a hit or miss.

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 99% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down (though I considered giving it a thumbs down).

Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway)

Instant Comments:
Hahaha. He catches the fly.
Haha. Hahaha. The carbs.
Oh jeez. What kind of report is this.
WTF. "A wound from the last mission."
He walks into the disaster. Huh. Are Bruce and Loy behind it? They seemed suspicious earlier when they were upset about their fly.
Haha. Bill Murray.
Hahahahaha. He didn't push the button.
WTF. "Spiders have to be individually milked."

Max shoots himself

Haha. "You were truly hideous."
"Don't turn around, don't turn around. Use your peripherals." (to see something that's at his six).
That suspicious urinating...
Hahahahaha. Inhales the dart.
Wow. His response to her story. "Oh-kay."
That dance battle.
Haha. "Just once."
Smile. "Do I have to do it exactly like that?" (and then shows off his moves)
The look on face of Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway).

Agent 23 (Dwayne Johnson)

Hehe. "Her sister's such a bitch."
Haha. Missed it.
Hahaha. Hahaha. "I used to look like two of my moms put together.
Oh wow. That's neat.
Hahaha. His friends.
HA! "I don't know. Where you thinking 'Holy shit, holy shit, a swordfish fish almost went through my head?'"
They were able to run there?
Hahaha. His bum.
Hahaha. "What good hang time, huh?"

My Beautiful Broken Brain (2014)

20180707:
My favorite visual in the documentary was the implementation of visibility to understand the Lotje's visual impairments. Though it might have been overused.

Lotje Sodderland

I thought it was interesting that reading and writing use different pathways in the brain. I guess it would hardly surprise anyone if someone can speak but not write. So the fact that writing and reading are also different should, for a similar reason, not be a surprise. In particular, it's likely that we can teach children to write (e.g., writing the letters "C" "A" "T") but not being able to read what they've written.

Instant Comments:
0:02 I've felt faint/fainted twice before and the moments leading up to it, where I lose control of my body is the strangest feeling. I need to update it with some new info, but it's detailed here: I Accidentally Cut Myself (Will it Stop Bleeding?)

0:04 Vomit and excrement.
0:09 She initially says "Plate" before realizing she meant "Place"
0:10 Interesting test.
0:13 It's like she has a bunch of connections, and get places, but has to go the long way around. It's like persons who learn a second language but do it through translation. Those persons always have to go through their first language (essentially taking extra steps to speak the second language).
0:14 She can repeat the word but not come up and say it herself!
0:16 The audio here is great story-telling.

0:17 That's interesting, you wouldn't know just meeting her after her injury. I was going to say earlier something to the effect that "too bad she isn't a poet". But in fact her profession involved writing and her friends and family describe her as articulate.
0:29 David Lynch (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Lynch); Twin Peaks
0:41 She can write, but can't read. She describes it as the words disappearing. The person explains it as different pathways.
0:51 [I'm a bit sleepy here. Because me, not cause the film]
0:52 Rebuild connections.
1:03 "Anything can happen at any time to any degree. Um, so... I better not have faith in anything." (A grim, but realistic outlook.)

1:07 Oh, the chart, lower is better, because it's 2.2 seconds per word to 1.5 seconds per word.
1:12 The philosophical question. "If the physical body, the brain, is damaged, does this extend to damage to the self?"
1:18 "reality... is only... what we believe and perceive to be true."

The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005)

20180707:
Andy Stitzer collects action figures, works in an electronic store, and is a 40-year-old virgin. So when his coworkers discover he hasn't had sex, they do their best to find him some action. Things get interesting when Stitzer meets a single mother who's not ready to be intimate, somewhat a relief for Stitzer.

Andy (Steve Carell) prepares to have his chest hair removed.

The film has good dialogue, is all-around funny, and is playfully raunchy. The only problem I had with the movie was its resolution. I thought it was too simple and lacked suspense and/or creativity.

With that being said, overall, I enjoyed the movie and would recommend it to fans of sex comedies (e.g., American Pie).

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 97% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Trish (Catherine Keener)

[20181030]

Instant Comments:
Hahaha. Walks down the hall with a boner.
Leans over to take a piss. (I described this to my wife a couple weeks ago.)
Ha. "That guy needs to get laid." "Tell me something I don't know." Burn.
HAHA! "I kind of feel bad for the horse."
Hahaha. His lie about his sex life.

Andy's coworkers Cal (Seth Rogen), David (Paul Rudd), and Jay (Romany Malco)

I dated this girl for a while. She was really a... nasty freak. She just loved to get down with sex all the time. It was like... anytime of day, she was like, "Yeah, let's go! I'm so nasty!" And I'd be nailing her and she'd be like, "Oh, you're nailing me! Cool!"
Haha. "bag of sand"
Haha. Breathalyzer.
Hahaha! "That fucker came out of nowhere."
Kelly Clarkson.

Beth (Elizabeth Banks)

He's bleeding.
Whoa. Speed dating. Breast pops out.
Maid in Manhattan.
Haha. Their exchange of "You want to know how you're gay?"
"Liar Liar"
Haha. "No, you're not a mistake, your sister was a mistake."
Hahahaha. "How do I stop her menstrual cycle."

David, Paula (Jane Lynch), Andy, and Cal

"2 hours later."

Alice in Wonderland (2010)

20101101:
I don't know why other people didn't like this movie, but I enjoyed it. I suppose the film's strengths play to my personal movie preferences: a dose of action and a world of imagination. Similar movies would include Narnia, Bridge to Terabithia, Pan's Labyrinth, and Coraline.

Film critics might be able to analyze the film in ways I couldn't imagine. Perhaps fans of Disney's animated Alice in Wonderland, the books, or other adaptations don't like Burton's twist on the story. I loved the story.

20180704:
The internet was down and unable to watch Netflix, I decided to watch this movie which was on DVD.* It was strange not being able to look stuff up; technically I could have used my phone, but I didn't because that was relatively inconvenient.

Alice Kingsleigh (Mia Wasikowska)

In any case, the movie was alright. It had its moments, but I didn't always agree with it visually. I would, however, have to mention that I had the same problem the first time I watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005).

Furthermore, sometimes the story tried too hard to be deep and meaningful. Personally I would have preferred this particular story to be outwardly fun with a deeper twist here and there, as opposed to one that was outwardly deep with a dab of fun.

*Watching the DVD was nostalgic with various DVD experiences such as the repeating scenes which play at the menu (some worse than others) and special features.

Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp)

('*' Continued...) With that being said, I once observed that Netflix has a special features section; however, I hardly ever look at it.

20190919 Comment:
I was transferring movie posts today (from www.supertran.net to movies.supertran.net) and I came across an older entry for this movie - meaning that I had already seen it. I went ahead and moved the old content here.

Instant Comments:
Creepy start.
What does pinching have to do with dreams.
"What is proper?"

Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter)

Hahaha. "It is best to keep your visions to yourself. When in doubt, be silent."
Ha. These two girls behave a little like Dumbledee and Dumbledum.
Smile. Roses and painting the roses red.
I like the music that picks up at "I need a moment" and the chase of the rabbit.
Wow. I never imagined Alice going down the rabbit hole would be so violent. (I never read the book though, wonder how it's depicted there.)
Oh, that's Alan Rickman's voice (the caterpillar)

White Queen (Anne Hathaway)

Jabberwocky with a vorpal sword.
Oh, I just noticed that there's a dodo bird.
Very odd that she said she's been having the same dream all her life, yet she doesn't recognize Wonderland (with all the creatures she mentioned as a child).
How would sniffing at the base of the castle get the dog to Alice? I understand such dogs have a strong sense of smell, but there should still be a trail to pick up on.
Why does the knave move so funny? Especially with respect to the horse.

Stayne - Knave of Hearts (Crispin Glover)

What's the job of the hatter?
I can't help find the similarity in the way Johnny Depp runs here as hatter with the way he runs as Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean.
I like how Alice takes control.
Though if she were dreaming, then it'd be lucid dreaming.
There was a person in the crowd with boobs that stuck out oddly.
Oh, the knave moves oddly because he's animated, due to his strange proportions.

Cheshire Cat (Stephen Fry)

Huh. Fake nose. All these people are wearing fake prostheses to make them look abnormal.
I see. It's about making the choice to please others or doing it for herself.
Six will be the Jabberwocky.
"Hatter, why is the raven like a writing desk?" "I haven't the slightest idea."
