The Brothers Grimm (2005)

20180324:
While I believe I watched this movie after the start of my blog, I have no record of having seen it.

Jakob "Jake" Grimm (Heath Ledger) and Wilhelm "Will" Grimm (Matt Damon)

I previously stated that I liked The Brothers Grimm more than Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013), but after watching it today, I changed my mind.

For example, the plot of both movies involved the kidnapping of children, but that particular plot point had more importance in the plot of Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunter. Between the two movies, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters also had the better presentation.

Angelika (Lena Headey)

In general, the last half or third of the movie was loosely put together and the ending was a letdown.

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 98% match. I decided to give the movie a thumbs down.

Instant Comments:
A: I realized while finishing this blog post that Hidlick (one of the Grimms' sidekicks) is Mackenzie Crook, the actor playing Ragetti in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Mirror Queen (Monica Bellucci)

1: From a tenth to a twentieth.
1: "The great Cavaldi NEVER panics!" He then panics when a kitten rubs against his foot.
1: Haha. "Not... you."

Ghostbusters II (1989)

20180320:
Although I had watched this movie a little over a month ago, I couldn't remember what it was about without first looking through my instant comments. In short, the movie was about the Ghostbusters being dissolved (due to the damages incurred to the city) and their subsequent reunion when a new evil plagues New York City.

Winston (Ernie Hudson), Ray (Dan Aykroyd), Peter (Bill Murray), and Egon (Harold Ramis)

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 98% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Instant Comments:
5 Years Later.
Lol. They're doing birthday parties and dancing to their own theme song.
"We had part of a slinky. But I straightened it."
"He's not Elephant Man ugly."

Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver)

"Kitten, I think what I'm saying is sometimes shit happens, someone has to deal with it, and who are you gonna call?"
Hahaha. "Do..." "Re..." "Egon..."
Hehe. Slimer is freely roaming the building.
Haha. "Is the atomic weight of Cobalt 59?"
Lol. When Winston tries to get an echo.

Boggle or Super Mario Brothers.
Haha. "Almost 50% of us voted for you."

Ghostbusters (1984)

20180317:
The theme song is a classic.*

Dr. Raymon Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), Dr. Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), and Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray)

I was not impressed with Bill Murray's character, but it's possible I'm just not accustomed to 80s humor (e.g., Caddyshack).

The special effects were cool, especially considering the movie was made in the 80s.

Overall, the movie is definitely worth watching at least once. If you're like me, then you'll enjoy the movie without laughing, but

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 98% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver)

*On 20180408, my friends and I were reminiscing about theme songs and I nominated Ghostbusters as one of the best.

Instant Comments:
Squiggly lines.
Ha. Discrete.
"Unlicensed Nuclear Accelerator"
Lol the damages.

"He slimed me."
"There's something very important I forgot to tell you. Don't cross the streams."
This guy is wearing a tie bar. I recently learned about them while researching accessories for suits.
"I want you inside me." "No, I can't. Sounds like you already got two people inside you."
"Is this true?" "Yes it's true. This man has no dick."
This is silly. People stand so close to the danger. Why would people stand so close?

Winston Zeddmore (Ernie Hudson)

Why does he get to kiss the girl? They didn't even go on a date.
Hmm. What came first, the movie or the cartoon series? [The movie did.]

300 (2006)

20180316:
I seldom watch movies which heavily focus on action (e.g., Transformers series, Pacific Rim, 300), but today when I saw the movie in my Netflix My List, my sense of missing out kicked in and decided to finally watch it.

King Leonidas (Gerard Butler)

After finishing the movie, I would say it exceeded my low expectations with respect to it's story. With that being said, it's still an action-oriented movie. A lot of visually-appealing sequences.

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 99% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Instant Comments:
I've heard the quote many times, but this is the first time I really got to see the scene: "This is Sparta!" Lol.

Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey)

22 minute mark: 300 men.
"I wish it were only against me." Doesn't make sense.
That wall on the left seems small and penetrable compared to the size of the army.
The overexaggeration of the arrows. They didn't even group up. Just supposedly angled their shields and not get caught out by any.

Dilios (David Wenham)

From my point of view, each of these soldiers is equivalent to the best warriors in The Lord of the Rings (Legolas, Aragorn, Gimli, etc.). Each manages to kill many of the opposition without dying. Eventually
Not considering the weakness and the overall rejection begins to lead to Leonidas's potential demise.
Oh, I think I saw this scene (Theron tells the Queen he will help her convince the Council in return for sexual favors) once before.

Theron (Dominic West) and King Leonidas

Oh, I also think I saw this scene. Theron will betray the Queen. [Yes, but I forgot the part where she stabs him and he's revealed to be a traitor.][I have no memory of where I might have seen these two scenes.]
Oh, I remember an element of this next scene ends as well. If I'm right, then Leonidas will throw a spear at Xerxes.

Fullmetal Alchemist

Overview: The Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse (older and younger, respectively), seek to recover their former selves after an attempt to resurrect their deceased mother goes horribly wrong. In large, this quest involves looking for the Philospher's Stone. This is the first (2003) anime adaptation of the manga and diverges from the manga halfway into the series (episode 26).*

Edward Elric (EN: Vic Mignogna) and Alphone Elric (EN: Aaron Dismuke) (Episode 4)

*Some viewers suggest watching at least the first 25 episodes if not the entire series before watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (because FMA:B is more brief on the backstory). Others say just skip this first adaptation altogether.

Recommendation: I wasn't pleased with the ending and have yet to watch the more than just the first episode of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Furthermore, I watched the English dub instead of the Japanese dub with English subtitles. Sometimes I turned the English subtitles on and they're usually completely different from the English audio.

As such, the best I can say at the moment is the Fullmetal Alchemist is somewhere between a good and great anime.

Alphonse (before he became just a body of armor) and Edward (before he lost his right arm and left leg) (Episode 1)

As of 20180302, Netflix determined the movie for me as a 90% match. I decided to give the series neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Lust (EN: Laura Bailey) and Gluttony (EN: Chris Cason) (Episode 2)

Episode 1.
3 years older.
1=20180302

Episode 3.
Given all the tools that flew out the door, I'm guessing Winry is the mechanic at the opening titles?
1=20180302

Episode 4.
"You're definitely much prettier when you don't dress like a paperboy!" - Edward to Claus. Claus's reaction is priceless.
1=20180302

Al Elric (Episode 2?)

Episode 5.
I'm guessing due to the part where he requested they boarded this specific train, that the whole thing is staged. But someone has supposedly been shot and killed. Unless that person was faking. Hmm. We'll see.

Huh. Guess it was quite real after all.
1=20180302

Episode 6.
Alphonso doesn't need to eat food (nor gets the joy of eating).
Huh. Ed warmed up water without a transmutation circle.
1=20180302

Ed Elric the Fullmetal Alchemist (Episode 2?)

Episode 7.
This chimera is definitely a mix of his dog and daughter. [Confirmed. And elaborated: his previous chimera was his wife.]
Sad ending.
1=20180302

Episode 10.
Hahaha. Also to be demolished.
1=20180303

Episode 11.
Hmm. These people automatically kicked out the real brothers simply because they came second. A rationale person would question both sets.
Know so much and yet so little.

Al and Nina Tucker. (Episode 6)

Episode 13.
Hahahaha. "That day... all female officers will be required to wear... tiny miniskirts!"

Episode 14.
Huh. This guy defeats Iron Blood Alchemist (Basque Grand), but somehow I don't feel bad for Iron Blood. Probably because the writers portrayed Iron Blood as being the bad guy.
1=20180310

Episode 16.
Strange that he was afraid to speak up about being dumped off the train.

1=20180311

Episode 25.
Huh. It seems they're playing the Fuhrer in a mysterious role. He seems nice, we haven't really seen much of his power, but could be behind everything.
Oh no. It's real. Hughes is dead.
[20180315: Internet sources say that this is the last episode which matches the manga. And roughly corresponds to episode 10 of FMA:B.]

Armostrong shows off his talent as an artist. (Episode 16)

Episode 26.
Hehe. Women.
1=20180315

Episode 27.
Huh. It seemed like she linked his ability to transmute without a circle and a performance of human transmutation. I wonder if that means she herself acquired the ability to transmute without a circle from such an experience.
1=20180315

Episode 29.
Ed suddenly doesn't understand equivalent exchange because he gave up his arm for Alphonse, and yet the arm now exists on this humonculus.
1=20180315

Winry Rockbell (EN: Caitlin Glass) (Episode 17)
Pinako Rockbell (EN: Juli Erickson) (Episode 17)

Episode 30.
Oh. Maybe Alphone's body, except the arm and leg, makes up the rest of the humonculus.
She gets upset at what they're telling them. But technically she was the one omitting information from them to begin with.
So it's true. She must have performed a human transmutation.
Grabs a random person for sulfur.
"Teacher. The Military. And These Bastards. Damn, looks like a four-way fight." - Ed. "Well then, I guess I make five." - Fuhrer. Ed counts himself in the four-way, and I suppose he included the Fuhrer as part of The Military. But the Fuhrer distinguished himself from The Military. It probably isn't the Fuhrer.
1=20180315

Episode 31.
Holy crap. "What's wrong? Get it over with. If you don't then I'll kill you."
1=20180315

Episode 32.
"Right, then I'll think for myself." (Bonk!)

Episode 33.
Alphonse revealed his weakness to the girl inside him.
What? All these guys are chimeras? [They are human chimeras.]
1=20180315

Episode 34.
I wonder which humonculus will be defeated first.
I wonder why there's a new Lust. What happened to the old one?
1=20180315

Izumi Curtis (EN: Christine M. Auten) (Episode 29)

Episode 37.
Haha. That surveillance log.
1=20180315

Episode 38.
The Thinker.
1=20180315

Episode 40.
Hmm. Alphonse prevents Martel from killing him.
Ooo. Lyra shows up again.
A most interesting death for Martel. Interesting that the impostor didn't suspect that Al was given any information.
1=20180316

Gluttony, Envy (EN: Wendy Powell), and Lust (Episode 14)

Episode 42.
Idiots. Don't listen to Ed.
1=20180316

Episode 43.
The number of problems caused by Al.
1=20180316

Episode 44.
Dante. I actually read this by accident in Episode 34.
1=20180316

Wrath (EN: Luci Christian) (Episode 29)

Episode 46.
I hate when equivalent exchange gets used in the social context.
1=20180316

Episode 49.
Wrath is annoying. "Mommy! Mommy!"
Ah thank goodness. As I mentioned above in Episode 46, it's bad when equivalent exchange is used in a social context, which Ed seems to believe. But Dante sets him straight (at least from a social point of view). She has yet to prove that the principle is somehow false with respect to alchemy.
1=20180317

Episode 51.
Oh wow. I didn't even realize I reached the end of the series. Though I'm still only at the 10 minute mark of it.
Hmm... I'm not sure what I think of that ending.

Schindler's List (1993)

20180302:
I'm sure there are a number of factors that make this movie excellent, and here are those which I noticed and/or felt strongly inclined to mention: 1) the music - there's something about the main motif which captures the emotion and time, 2) the black and white with three or four moments of color - useful in story telling, and 3) the gravity.

Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson)

Overall, while the movie is a long four hours, I would highly recommend any movie lover see it at least once in their life, especially if he/she enjoys dramas and/or movies set during wartime.

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 95% match. I decided to give the movie a thumbs up.

[20180320]

Instant Comments:
Interesting. The very first scene is in color. Until the light goes out.

Itzhak Stern (Ben Kingsley)

I don't remember any of these first scenes.
I couldn't hear what he said. He said, "By law, I have to tell you, sir, I'm a Jew." To which Oskar Schindler replies "Well, I'm a German. So there we are."
Yeah, I guess it's interesting to consider that Schindler was approaching the situation from a purely business standpoint.
Hehe. Everybody else left.
Wow. Such story-telling. To start with the family packing up all their valuables, their exit on the street, Schindler's arrival, switching back and forth between Schindler and the former occupants, and concluding with "It could be better." and "It could be worse." + "How on Earth could it possibly be worse!?"

Amon Goeth (Ralph Fiennes)

"Money is still money." "No it is not."
The second time we see Schindler offer Itzhak Stern a drink.
Third offer for alcohol. "Just pretend for Christ's sake."
Mrs. Schindler.
350 workers.
Hehe. She leaves (because he doesn't promise her what she requests).
(Possessions) People's lives ripped from them.

"Yeah, why is the top down? I'm fucking freezing." - Amon Goeth (Ralph Fiennes)
Huh. What is achieved by both following her advice and shooting her?
A case of euthanasia which seems justified.
A girl in red.
"I'd say I'd get you one but the man who made it is probably dead."
This is the first scene I truly remember. "Him!"
A discussion on power:

Oskar Schindler: Power is when we have every justification to kill, and we don't.
Amon Goeth: You think that's power?
Oskar Schindler: That's what the Emperor said. A man steals something, he's brought in before the Emperor, he throws himself down on the ground. He begs for his life, he knows he's going to die. And the Emperor... pardons him. This worthless man, he lets him go.
Amon Goeth: I think you are drunk.
Oskar Schindler: That's power, Amon. That is power.

Amon pulls his gun to kill Rabbi Menasha Lewartow (Ezra Dagan)

I wonder what is to be said about Amon when he kills Lisiek.
This is one of the most memorable scenes in the film (at the two hour mark): examination of the workers (who must parade around nude). [Oh, and the little boy trying to find a hiding place but even the toilets were taken.]
Oh no, the girl in red.
Finally Stern accepts a drink with Schindler.
I remembered the woman arriving safely, but didn't remember why they were dropped off in Auschwitz. [It's explained in the next scene.]
Why did the lights have to ominously shut off.
Despite them getting a bath, if Schindler didn't come to rectify the mistake, they could have been dead.

Emilie Schindler (Caroline Goodall) and Oskar Schindler

The candle flame has light.
Teary eyed: "I could have got more."
I essentially had this IMDb.com question "Who are the people at the end and why are they putting stones on the grave?" and it had the following answer: "They are real Schindler Jew survivors accompanied by the actors that portrayed them. Laying stones on a grave is a traditional sign of respect for Jewish people and is done especially when the individual was not present at the funeral of the deceased."
Liam Neeson is shown standing before the grave after the rose gets placed. Is he the one who placed the rose? [Yes.]
