Song of the Sea (2014)

20150825:
I love it when an airplane has the entertainment feature which allows customers to choose what they want to watch.

Anyways, I loved The Secret of Kells (2009), and so it just made sense to watch Song of the Sea. Overall, I liked Secret of Kells more than Song of the Sea, even though Song of the Sea is a great movie.

Ben (David Rawle)

Song of the Sea is a cute, magical, and occasionally humorous movie.

20180901, 20180904:
The story of the movie felt unmotivated, but mysterious and magical.

However, I'd say the primary reason to watch this film is for the animation. The movie's art style is different from the typical 2D animation (e.g., Disney) which portrays events in a realistic manner. It's hard for me to describe at the moment, but it's different, fresh, and adds to the feel of the film.

On 20180901, Netflix determined the movie for me as a 59% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Bob Saget: That's What I'm Talkin' About (2013)

20150821:
Bob Saget's comedy special is a combination of prepared material and improv, which is much different than watching a comedian simply perform a set list of jokes.

While pretty funny, as part of his act, he was constantly apologizing. Personally I was annoyed by this, but I suppose it had a way of keeping the flow.

From what I could gather, his show seemed like it would be a lot more funny live, due to the improvised nature of it.

With that being said, I liked the songs he wrote and performed at the end of his show.

20150816:
From what I can remember, not counting an action-adventure spin-off, I've never played a game of Mortal Kombat before. I do, however, own Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, so I'll play them when I get the chance.

I started watching this, and then wondered if I should first play the game, because I never really did. In particular, my only strong connection with Mortal Kombat is the movie's soundtrack. More specifically, when I was a kid, I was on the Tae Kwon Do demonstration team and the demo team instructor choreographed an entire performance around the soundtrack.

In any case, I decided to go ahead and watch the movie without having played the game. For the most part, the movie was as bad as I thought it would be. I did, however, find it quite humorous. I especially enjoyed the comic relief as provided by Johnny Cage.

Looking back on the history of movies based on video games, who would have thought that eventually they'd be good.

"This is where you fall down." - Johnny Cage
Ha. "Huh, thank God I didn't ask him to park the car."
Damn, this Sonya isn't messing around.
The name of the tournament is called Mortal Kombat

Lol. It's hard to take Lord Rayden* seriously. [*There is media where his name is spelled 'Raiden' and others where it's spelled 'Rayden', here it is the latter.]
Actually, it's hard to take any of them seriously except for Johnny Cage whose character seems to embrace the comedic nature of the movie.

Ha, his luggage just rolls down the steps.
Lol. Set out food for your guests just to flip it over.
Interesting, the followers range in fitness (from a bit of stomach flab to eight packs)
"I can smell her perfume." "I don't smell anything." "I smell something... bullshit."

Yay, this track. "Mortal Kombat!!!"
"You guys are lucky he stopped us."
"You're soul is mine. Fatality."
Ha. He tells her to finish him.

"Get over here!" "Welcome."
"Flawless victory."
"At last, one of them has understood."

Lol. These spikes came out of the symbol... just so that the ending would be cool? :p

Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)

20150815:
There was a Robin Williams movie marathon event in San Francisco today, but because I arrived late, I only saw the end of The Birdcage (1996) which showed before Mrs. Doubtfire.

In any case, there were two details I realized during this viewing. That the majority of songs are related to being in drag and that the protagonist, Daniel / Mrs. Doubtfire (Robin Williams), was drunk from his meeting with Mr. Lundy.

Of course, the movie's story is relatively unimportant, because the fighting sequences are such a pleasure to watch.

Overall, I like Andy Lau more in Shaolin (2011) and Ziyi Zhang more in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000).*

With that being said, House of Flying Daggers is a solid martial arts movie.

I mean seriously... she even knows after the unexpected fight that he was wounded.

I see. I've certainly exhibited behavior similar to his behavior regarding the basketball game in the past.
"You can't choose who you love." Among the humor, this moment and perhaps a couple others makes the special seem like a TED talk. "Which is true, but it doesn't mean its good."

Title @48min.
Clever punchline with the gummy candy.
He gets back to the original cliffhanger at the 1 hour mark.
Ha! "He uses the technique we learned earlier."

"This is Chinatown."
I like that ending.

Merlin Season 5

[Part of TV Series: Merlin]
20231009 Comment:
Today I watched two episodes which I seemed to have not watched. Though maybe I did and simply did not record doing so, while simultaneously forgetting anything about them. In any case, I eventually recalled the ending to the series, but I didn't remember how that made any sense as there's this prophecy of Arthur reuniting Albion. A person made this comment in a Reddit post: "At the end of the series you see an old Merlin in modern day UK (Albion) which means he succeeded. There were many "Arthurs" per se and Merlin was to continue to help that King every step till the next and so on and so forth until Albion was finally united."
20200118 11PM:
yesterday s5e1 and s5e2. interesting I didnt expect Merlin to ask about the Bane and get that answer. Though what was with the vision about Mordred. So easy to become a knight... just by saving Arthur's life... Arthur should be a little more picky. s5e3 today. Uther says "Merlin has..." ; haha ending with the slap.

20200126 9PM:
s5e4. morgana disheveled look. mithian did not have such a caretaker last time. morgana using a similar old person as merlin. as arthur is making plans and gaius disagrees Gwen have some thoughts [she brings it up later]. i thought gaius would recognize morganas eyes but instead he just makes an observation about age. Ada thinks she wrote something in bottle or on bottle. ah... makes sense why she was having a wash earlier.

20200126 10PM:
hehe a little gaius magic. ada wondered why morgana doesn't catch on that Everytime her plans are foiled arthur is there. I initially answered that he's a servant and she's royalty so she wouldnt expect it. I later thought he hides it so well. so many times she's attacked him like in this episode. to someone who doesnt know, if he was a sorceror then he would retaliate with magic, but he does not so logically someone would assume he does not have magic.

20200128 1AM:
a couple hours ago we watched s5e5 and s5e6. I'm a little surprised Merlin made the choice he did. For once he heeded the dragon. Of course if one believes in destiny then all these actions seem set in stone. Very curious how Mordred will turn. It's like it'll happen but we dont know why and how. I figured in this episode Mordred almost succeeded in getting Arthur to free magic in Camelot. In the next episode I cant help but feel like Morgana s attempt to kill Arthur is convoluted.

20200201 12PM:
the other day (1/30) we watched s5e7. it was interesting to see Gwen so evil. Sometimes it's interesting to have Merlin know what's up but not say anything. The ending of this episode with Gwen being applauded instead of unraveled was annoying. It over looks the fact that she blamed Merlin. Who then, now that Merlin was pardoned, was responsible for killing Tyr and poisoning Arthur, the potions man was the supplier and Morgana herself did not have access to Arthur's food.

20200202 10PM:
s5e8. hmm. why didnt morgana just kill him? s5e9. we laughed at gaius suggesting women. we laughed at gwen fall on bread. dochraid. haha merlins coverup for the dropped clothes. hehe arthur says she looks familiar.

20200203 9PM:
s5e10. see Morgana killed alator but she did not kill merlin in previous episode.

20200203 10PM:
s5e11. unfortunate for merlin that he didnt tell but mordred thinks he did. ada thinks when Arthur talks about mordred s footpirnts that mordred realizes, im not sure, they did pan to his reaction. merlin speaks out for mordred. only time will tell. she leaves out the part where she tried to kill arthur. oh, he says "i know you did not betray me before". Merlin's logic here doesnt entirely make sense... it does seem like this will likely make things worse... oh well destiny is destiny. arthur wont let them go so I think merlin would set them free... darn, arthur allowed her to repent, and technically what she said was true but that's partially arrogance and or pride. oh shoot, mordred reveals merlin to morgana

20200207 11PM:
s5e12 haha merlin chesting. oh surely that girl is asking too many questions. (lol!!! why wouldnt she just kill him?!? stupid morgana) look on gwains face after arthur speaks. lol Ada laughs at this just believe trope and that he didnt have to go the crystal cave. ah, a benefit of the crystal cave, future reading and or present plus this dream sending.

20200208 6PM:
s5e13we started the episode yesterday but finished it today. the end is interesting in that it gives an opportunity for a sequel one day. but I suppose unlikely

Merlin Season 4

[Part of TV Series: Merlin]
20191227 10PM:
s4e1. s4e2. was asking why Morgana didn't kill her. it is explained in a later scene, left to the Doracha.

20191230 11PM:
s4e4 earlier today, Aithusa. s4e5 setting a trap. Arthur admits he should have listened to Merlin.

20200102 6PM:
s4e6 earlier today. so close for Arthur to suspect his uncle. haha the old man again. takes on the knights. Ada wondered if Morgana would suspect Emrys to be Merlin because why else would Emyrs want the creature. Merlin didnt tell Gaius about Arthur's uncle.

20200104 9PM:
s4e7. hmm well Arthur should keep his previous suspicion in mind. oh no Gaius revealed by force. Ada and I wonder if he will protect Merlin due to Merlin's role. Gaius says they don't have evidence but Arthur should put 2 and 2 together. great speech from Gaius.

20200104 10PM:
s4e8. wonder if that's intentional like the opening "His name is Merlin." Lamia. she can't control Merlin or Gwen. Agravaine... what is his interest. covering tracks. lol after killing Lamia, Gwen walked with Arthur away from her brother. lol being saved by a woman or dying.

20200106 10PM:
s4e9 Merlin will know because Lancelot wont know he has powers. wow this Gwen episode didnt have a resolution... that's unfortunate.

20200109 12AM:
s4e10. Gaius will find the salt. wow quite a plot twist, explains why Arthur was gloomy.

20200109 9PM:
s4e11 haha Ada and I laugh as she belches out one (even though I expected her to). noo why does it take Gaius so long to figure out at the same time that Merlin's information to Arthur should be pursued more strongly.

20200109 10PM:
s4e12. Agravaine wishes to stay. What I don't know is why Agravaine helps Morgana. if she pressure him then he could have defected. lol simpleton Arthur smiles (we've got gold). haha Ada says how cute as he knocks on the tree.

20200117 12PM:
yesterday I watched Cells at Work! S1E12 and S1E13. Afterwards, Ada and I finished the last episode of Merlin season 4 (s4e13). I guess there wasn't time to show other people try to pull out Excalibur. but I guess Arthur did give a first attempt that showed it was difficult. what is with the ending dragon though.

Merlin Season 3

[Part of TV Series: Merlin]
Morgana (Katie McGrath) (S3E02)

S3:E01
1: "Describe 'dollop-head.'" "In two words?" "Yes." "Prince Arthur."
1: They spend all this time finding her when she's essentially an enemy.
1: She apologizes to Merlin and says all this stuff but I don't believe it. Let's see how long the charade lasts.
1: The above was at 10 and she gives the look of deceit at about 13 as she walks away from Uther.
1: Wow. The guard is still alive.
1: Hmm. Is she gonna get away with killing the guard? Is it worth placing a false lead into the plot like this? Well I guess if the guard spilled the beans it would have been too simple.

Merlin (Colin Morgan) (S3E02)

1: How many times do they have to show her with a sinister look. It's getting a little tiresome.
1: I think the manner in which she reached under to grab the mandrake seems unnatural.
1: The number of times Merlin has followed Morgana without being caught...
1: Ha. My previous comment is appropriate. "Do you really think I'd be so stupid, Merlin?"]
1: Nice end to the episode.
1=20191209

S3:E02
1: Moral of the story, don't keep skeletons within the walls of the castle.
1: Morgana beat Merlin to the punch. (Merlin wants to inform Arthur of Morgana)
1=20191209

Arthur (Bradley James) (S3E13)

S3:E03
1=20191211

S3E04
1: As Arthur says, his father is stubborn. Overall, Uther is a great foil to Arthur.
1: It seems being not noble has its perks (Arthur and Merlin watch Gwen and Gwaine interact at the end).
1=20191211

Gaius (Richard Wilson)

S3:E05
1: Hmm everything is happening even with Merlin's interruption... so he must see the events in order for them to happen. it's fate at it's best. I guess the strange part is that one sorcerer was said by Gaius to likely have died 300 years ago and yet he was the one who cured Arthur.
1=20191212

S3:E06
1: Haha. That weird hug to the chest. "See you soon I expect."
1: "Our little secret." (frog)
1: Oh wow. He defeated the Sidhe.
1: Didn't expect him to obliterate the pixie.
1=20191212

Uther Pendragon (Anthony Head) (S3E01)

S3:E07
1: It's super annoying how every other shot of Morgana is her making a sinister smirk. (~10 minute mark) [So I did a Google search: "drink when you see morgana smirk" and it was the eighth and last item on a Reddit post titled "Merlin drinking game!" In a separate post a user commented the following: "I've said it before, make her 'Your time will come' smile a drinking game and nobody is standing up after 2 or 3 episodes." Finally, a Reddit post that resonated the same annoyance as mine asking in the title "Anyone else get really annoyed when Morgana does her little 'I am so eveeeel muahaha' smirk?"]
1: Merlin shows his backbone against Morgana.
1=20191212

The Dragon (John Hurt)

S3:E08
1: I noticed during the start of this episode (actually I might have previously seen it as well) that the subtitles spells "Guinevere" as "Gwenhwyfer." [German Wikipedia page for Guinevere says (translated) "The name became known through the Arthurian legend. [It] appears in Welsh in the form of Gwynhwyfer or Gwenhwyfar."]
1: maybe Gwen suspects from mirror.
1: the bridge keeper interesting interaction with Arthur.
1: Gwen spies on Morgana.
1: If Arthur paid head to the bridge keeper he might deduce Arthur as magic since Gwaine is strength.
1: hahaha "It sounded like three pheasants..."
1: wyverns.
1: he wants to die so give him the bracelet. [soon after the Fisher King asks for it but Arthur has forgotten]
1: water from the Lake of Avalon.
1=20191212

Gwen (Angel Coulby) (S3:E10)

S3:E09
1: I was thinking it and in the next scene Arthur points out how Uther was willing to use magic to save Morgana but otherwise condemns it.
1: Wow. What a scary creature.
1: The librarian says it's a Manticore.
1: Gaius is upset, however, he directly ignored Merlin. [Merlin later apologizes and Gaius says he understands]
1: I'm surprised the Manticore couldn't poke Merlin with his stinger.
1: Neat we got to see Gaius use magic.
1=20191212

S3:E10
1: hehe. "You know Merlin you couldn't keep a secret if your life depended on it."
1: How long for Merlin to figure out it was morgana and how will this resolve...
1: Even though it was Morgana who spilled the beans, it does not undo the revelation.
1: OMG Morgana steps it up a notch and frames Gwen for sorcery.
1: For someone who previously showed compassion for Gwen, Morgana doesn't even pretend to care now.
1: So my previous comment - Gwen tells Merlin she saw Morgana smile (ha, her constant smirking finally caught up with her!)
1: I suppose saying that Arthur falling in love with a lowly servant girl bringing shame to Camelot doesnt help the cause but it is believable.
1: smile: Merlin goes off on Uther and a little on Arthur.
1: Morgana fails to keep up appearances but only in front of Gaius who already knows, not that she knows.
1: hahaha spend a day at the tavern (one of the drinking game items).
1: Merlin didn't mean to get caught but I feel as though getting caught was the best way to clear Gwen's name.
1=20191213

S3:E11
1: How did people witness the blowback as not magic?
1: Tough spot going against his father.
1: So he almost was planning to win but decided to let his dad win. I wonder how his dad feels about that. It's direct contrast to the episode where Arthur wants to prove he's not given any special treatment.
1: smile: the problem is that you wish to talk but don't wish to listen (but the interesting thing about fate is that Merlin not listening would be the way it's meant to be...)
1: Uther isn't even close to Arthur's logic...
1: Why would you underestimate someone who made it to the final
1: oh shit, his father knew! (the show has some moments like this where they help out Uther to be less unlikable...)
1=20191213
Morgause (Emilia Fox)

S3:E12
1: As always, Uther thinks he's making the right decision, Merlin makes proper advice to Arthur, and they pay for it (immortal army). Of course, the assumption is that somehow it will be corrected.
1: Gaius says there must be a traitor in our mists and then it cuts to Morgana smirking. Due to the position of the characters, she must have been smirking within Gaius's line of sight.
1: Here Gwen is talking with Morgana and Morgana smirks right at her.
1: Despite the eventual correction of the error, they are witnessing a great loss (many men have died; "they never stood a chance")
1: "How much longer can he keep going like this?" (perhaps in this episode or the next episode Merlin will use what the Fisher King gave him)
1: Ah yes. Arthur grabs the water.
1: "Merlin you should go with them." "Nah, I've seen the woods already."
1: @"You have no use to the thrown." (Maybe Arthur can pour the water into the Cup of Life.)
1=20191213

S3:E13
1: Why would they need Sir Leon and the other nights when they have an immortal army?
1: Hmm. That's extreme. The knights refuse. And then she fires at the people.
1: Ouch. "You can can not begin to know how much I hate you."
1: Oh Morgana says the reason she needs the knights so the people will follow here.
1: Who is Freya?
1: "I am not a horse."
1: I wonder if Gwen would assume she's being followed. (They are in the forest and Sir Leon is removing his woman clothes.)
1: I mean... they were already willing to die by arrow, will it really make a difference to kill the knights one by one?
1: Haha. "Merlin." "No, I don't really fancy it." "You don't have a choice." "Okay."
1: Oh shit!!! Gaius comes to the rest you. Morgause says, "I have a feeling I won't be seeing you again." Gauis appears and says, "No, you won't."
1: I wonder if slashing the cup with the sword was necessary?
1: Oh, stop crying...
1: Jeez. That screeching.

Merlin Season 2

[Part of TV Series: Merlin]
S2:E01
1: Poor Merlin
1: Haha, Arthur and Guinevere
1: Awesome dragon.
A: Due to Morgana's vision in the end of the last season, I wanted to see if their next meeting would address it. The Great Dragon makes Merlin promise to one day free him.
1: Gaius is pretty cool.
1: Nice show.
1=200911XX (Moleskine), A=20231009 (Amazon Prime; looking for meeting between Merlin and The Great Dragon)

Arthur (Bradley James) (S2E02)

S2:E02
1: Oh, they need someone to enter and then Arthur can switch.
A: Hehe. He took the bed. To be fair he probably didn't know she doesn't have a second bed for herself.
1: Love the diatribe by Merlin @18
A: Gwen really tells Arthur off.
1: Kiss after 31.
1: In previews: that's right...
1=200911XX (Moleskine), A=20191209 (screenshot viewing)

S2:E03
1: @34: "Hello Emrys"
1: What a bad turn of events.
1: Merlin-Morgana here is like Clark-Lex [20191209: I wonder if I specifically mean the Smallville iteration].
1=200911XX (Moleskine)

Merlin (Colin Morgan) (S2E02)

S2:E04
1: @20: Haha, the berries. "Perhaps you prefer to be eaten alive. "Oh... pass me some more will you?"
1: Lol @24 [20191209: Probably Arthur's quip about the berries working.]
1: Merlin still did pretty well scaling the tower.
1: Oh... Lancelot knows about Merlin.
1: Poor Arthur.
1: Awkward moment.
1: Hand to Merlin to Arthur to Lancelot to Gwen @37
1=20091106 (Moleskine)

Gaius (Richard Wilson) (S2E02)

S2:E05 - Beauty and the Beast - Part 1
1: Disgusting, yet interesting character. "Lady Catrina." The troll.
1: Yet another episode which plays on Uther Pendragon's stupidity and/or ignorance of magic.
1: "How could he resist such beauty?"
1: @27
1: But I should mention, Uther's stupidity does not trump the actor's ability to be a good character (in contrast, a character like Kate in Lost is flawed while also being annoying)
1: Lol @39, like in Harry Potter, everything is more powerful by saying the spell louder.
1=200911XX (Moleskine)

Uther Pendragon (Anthony Head)

S2:E06 - Beauty and the Beast - Part 2
1: At difficult times, Arthur shows his good side.
1: Lol "fresh from the stable."
1: Gross.
1: Merlin hiding in the barrel.
1: Her weakness is the cleanliness.
1: Lol fun @24
1: Haha. Uther smiles.
1: @36: "I suppose it is important."

The Dragon (John Hurt) (S2E03)

1: "Poison"
1: Half an hour.
1: I wonder what sort of time was used during the medieval times.
1: Oy... trouble.
1: Lol @42: pat on the back.
1: Merlin says, "I thought you were going for a hug." Arthur replies, "Noo..." Lol. I rewatched this scene about five times.
1: I love the music in the background.
1=200911XX (Moleskine)

Gwen (Angel Coulby) (S2E02)

S2:E07
1: Silly Merlin. Lol. I love the actor's/character's humor in the show.
1: Again Uther.
1: Gwen asks Arthur to step up.
1: Gaius confronts Uther at the end. Likely as a measure to protect Arthur. And perhaps, in part, for Morgana
1=20091112 (Moleskine)

S2:E08
1: Oh wow, that explains so much about Uther Pendragon.
1: So Morgause and Morgana...
1: Ygraine...
1: Poor Arthur.
1: Merlin does what's hard...
1=20091126 (Moleskine)

Morgana (Katie McGrath)

S2:E09 - The Lady of the Lake
1: I love the comedy between Merlin and Arthur
1: Yeah that sucks. It wasn't her fault for doing what she did.
1: Yet she was cursed.
1: Dramatic love story.
1: "Was it when I threw water at you?"
1: Lol, fat.
[20231009]
Arthur: Something's been upsetting you, hasn't it.
Merlin: Maybe.
Arthur: Was it when I threw water at you?
Merlin: Wasn't very nice.
Arthur: It was a bit unfair... Like when you called me "fat".
Merlin: Why was that unfair?
Arthur: Cause I am not!
1=20091128 (Moleskine)

S2:E10
1: The confusion between Gwen and Arthur (well-received)
1=20191209 AM

Mordred (Asa Butterfield)

S2:E11
1: Right... apologize for being intruded on.
1: Nice of Arthur to cover for Merlin
1: I don't remember if Merlin knows Morgana has magic.
1=20191209 AM

S2E:12 - The Fires of Idirsholas
1: I'm glad Arthur has the brains to ask that question: "Morgana, I don't understand, why are you the only one awake."
1: Haha. "Waking" Gaius.
1: "He's the King!" "Alright, two pillows."
1: Ha. Is the dragon going to be asleep? [He was sleeping, but only of his own will.]

Morgause (Emilia Fox)

1: Who is this character? [Morgause. She is Morgana's half sister. According to the Wiki, prior to this episode she was in S2:E08 (her first appearance).]
1: "There's something I have to do." Will he finally free the dragon?
1: "Before I do this, you promise me... that you will not harm Camelot." "I think there have been enough bargains, don't you?" That's true. Merlin already made a promise and finally swearing on his mother's life he would free the dragon. He has no right to ask for more. Furthermore, the dragon is technically in the right to harm Camelot in the sense that Merlin has saved Camelot a countless number of times through his advice. 1=20191209, A=20231009 (Amazon Prime; watched the last five or so minutes before watching the next episode)

S2E:13 - The Last Dragonlord
1: Oh wow. Gaius reveals Balinor is Arthur's father. But Gaius warns that since Balinor is a dragonlord, that Arthur must not leek this connection as that would cause suspicion.
1: "The Great Dragon is attacking Camelot." "His name is Kilgharrah."
1: "You're the last dragonlord now. You alone carry the ancient gift. Deep within yourself... you must find the voice that you and Kilgharrah share, for your soul and his are brothers. When you speak to him as kin, he must obey your will."
1: "Young warlock. What you have shown is what you will be. I will not forget your clemency. I'm sure our paths will cross again."
