There was more character in the opening six movies of this movie than the entire duration of the recent 2014 movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014).* While the characters were, in some sense, less realistic, I felt much more connected with them.

It should be noted that this connection I had with the characters in the original extends beyond the first six minutes. There's also nothing quite like Casey Jones in recent movie.
Finally, I happen to like Shredder more in this movie than the high-tech Shredder in the recent movie.

In summary, all my votes are in favor of the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie (as compared to the recent 2014 one).
*[20180722] What I originally wrote was convoluted and today I interpretted it as it is now written.
