Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010)

20110226:
The game is more enjoying than the movie. The movie doesn't follow the plot of the game.

The movie was okay. There's a lack of romance between Dastan and Tamina. The action wasn't all that great.

Having played the game, I had higher expectations for the movie.

As a result, I enjoyed The Expendables (2010) more.

The Expendables (2010)

20110223:
While there were some good action sequences in the movie, I didn't like the overall plot. Some parts just didn't flow well. The beginning was particularly weak.

I wasn't upset that Arnold Schwarzenegger's role was brief, I was upset that it had no major effect on the plot.

The beginning didn't establish enough about the team for me. I don't mind a little of the drama necessary to drive the film, but I would have preferred the movie let action take the reigns.

Jet Li was made out to be not as cool as he would be in his own film. Jason Statham's character pushes the cool factor in this movie.

To reiterate, the movie's action sequences were cool. I wish some of the plot that surrounded the action was better. Overall, I'd say The A-Team (2010) was a better movie.

Oh, one part in particular was when the team was waiting inside the building with the army outside. I didn't like that part.

Terry Crews's weapon that tore the enemy apart was awesome.

Role Models (2008)

20110220:
The individual characters were great.

Unfortunately, the movie lacked flow.

Overall this movie was okay. The ending was the highlight.

Wheeler (Seann William Scott) and Danny (Paul Rudd)

20181116:
Watching the movie again today, I had a drastically different experience.

First, I enjoyed all the jokes, the story and flow was better than I commented in my previous entry, and Ken Jeong's lines were decent, but not hilarious - especially not compared to Jane Lynch's lines.

On a different note, I had forgotten that the movie was raunchy. This includes, but not limited to, strong language, numerous sexual references, and nudity.

Sweeny (Jane Lynch)

Overall, while I'd be unlikely to watch the movie again, I'm glad I did watch it a second time and would recommend it to fans of movies with Seann William Scott (e.g., American Pie and Dude, Where's My Car)

On 20181116, Netflix determined the movie for me as a 79% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Borat (2006)

20110217:
It seems like a movie that people either love or hate.

The movie was hard to get into. Some scenes were hilarious. Others not so much.

I was mostly left curious with how the filming was done. The mix of fiction and non-fiction made it hard for me to enjoy it.

I guess it was different for people watching the movie when it first came out.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)

20110216:
This movie was unbelievable. I loved it. In particular, I loved how the battles got increasingly awesome.

I currently like this film better than Kick-Ass (2010).

The movie was well-rounded and a lot of parts were great and funny. Any fan of rock music will enjoy the movie even more.

My favorite part/line combo:
Young Neil: He punched the highlights out of her hair!

My second favorite part/line combo:
Kim Pine: We are Sex Bob-Omb! And we're here to watch Scott Pilgrim kick your teeth in! One-two-three-four!

Honorable Mention:
"Bass Battle"

Credits:
Oh, Kieran Culkin is Macaulay Culkin's younger brother. But older brother to Rory Culkin, the actor who played Morgan Hess in Signs (2002).

20110220:
I watched the Deleted Scenes today (20110220) and some were interesting. The most interesting was the alternate ending, which puts Scott and Knives Chau together.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The Bloopers. Not laughing out loud, but worth watching for the number of times Michael Cera had to throw the package into the trash bin before making it.

20140319:
So my friends and I got together today for a movie night, and after watching Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog (2008), we decided to watch this movie.

The great thing about Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is that it constantly felt fresh.

20240120: Wow. I didn't remember much about this movie, and I really enjoyed it. In fact, I would say I loved it! It has great pacing, action sequences, humor, and music.

I was a little confused about what happened at the end of this short. That scene happened so quickly, I had to go back and read the dialogue in order to understand it.

Captain Marvel and Black Adam duke it out.
Tawny: "Aged 5,000 years in a single moment... Harsh."
Billy: "I thought the Wizard was..."
Tawny : "As a doorknob."

Shazam (James Garner)
[20151019:] Even more explicitly, Tawny threatened the Wizard (who was actually dead) would send Black Adam so far that it would take 10,000 years to get back. Deciding he'd rather die, Black Adam says "Shazam!" and ages 5,000 years in a single moment. Tawny then confirms that he tricked Black Adam.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008)

20110212,20110213:
This movie was okay. As a whole, I found it a bit loose and unorganized. On the other hand, there were some pretty good lines and scenes. Unfortunately, the ending was a bit plain. Maybe I'll have to watch it again some time.

The Deleted Scenes were illuminating. For example, the award Zack comes back from the reunion with is explained. It shows them cleaning out the storage space for the sound studio. I think a lot of the deleted scenes would have made the film better. There's a whole 94 minutes of deleted (actually there's some alternate and extended scenes) scenes. Though 20 of those minutes is "Brandon and Bobby Make a Testimonial."

People:
Jason Mewes as a character other than Jay.
Jeff Anderson from Clerks. (1994), Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001), and Clerks II (2006) as a character other than Randal Graves.
Tyler Labine, the drunk guy, looked familiar. He was in Dead Last and Reaper.
Craig Robinson looked familiar. He's from The Office.
Bobby Long is played by Brandon Routh who was in Superman Returns (2006).

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

Overview: The origin story for X-Men character Wolverine. James Howlett learns he's a mutant with a half-brother Victor. Upon joining a team led by Stryker, James goes by the alias Logan (his birth father's surname). Eventually, Logan gets his adamantium claws and takes on the name Wolverine.

Wolverine (Hugh Jackman)

20110211:
This movie was pretty good. There were a couple of situations which didn't seem reasonable. For example, why did Gambit interrupt the fight between Wolverine and Sabretooth?

The movie had great action. There's something about the character Wolverine: he's mysterious, he's an anti-hero, and he has a complex personality.

James Howlett and Victor Creed (Liev Schreiber)

With that being said, I didn't completely like the story. I thought the beginning, when he was a kid, could have been done better.

Overall, I liked the movie about as much as I liked The Incredible Hulk. If I correctly remember X-Men (2000), then this movie wasn't as good as that one. I don't remember enough about the sequels to compare them.

[20110211][20220119 Edit]
Stryker (Danny Houston)

20220113:
The movie started with a boy named James learning he has bone claws and that he shares a father with Victor. Then there's a montage of them fighting in different wars and his brother is bloodthirsty. One thing leads to another, and they find themselves recruited by Stryker, in a team that includes Wade Johnson (prior to being Deadpool). But Logan leaves the group and has a life with a Kayla Silverfox, who is eventually shown to have some sort of power related to changing a person's mind (like the Jedi mind trick).

Along the story, Logan (the alias assumed by James) get adamantium infused into his body, he encounters Gambit while looking for Stryker, and Victor take Scott Summers for Stryker.

John Wraith (will.i.am), Fred Dukes (Kevin Durand), Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), Stryker, Logan, and Bradley (Dominic Monaghan)

Other significant events in the film include Stryker talking about his son, the creation of Deadpool, and Professor X showing up to rescue the children.

Prior to rewatching the film, I remembered Wolverine fighting Deadpool, but not much else about the movie. In particular, I didn't remember much about the ending.

I would have guessed Wolverine would have cut Stryker's legs off. Kayla makes him walk until he bleeds and more. But somehow in the pre-credits he's interrupted and stops.
Remy LeBeau / Gambit (Taylor Kitsch)

2: Post-credits: Wade is alive

The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009)

20110211:
This was a funny movie. I liked it a lot. Though not many people felt that way. I wasn't sure why, and so I read a couple of short remarks on Rotten Tomatoes. What I learned was many people were disappointed in the movie as a satire. I just took the movie at face value.

Lyn Cassady (George Clooney)

I watched the Deleted Scenes. One of them was an alternative scene to Ewan McGregor returning the feather to Jeff Bridges and during that scene McGregor slightly parts the clouds. Part of this scene was good, but the corresponding scene in the movie has better dialogue delivery.

I watched the Theatrical Trailer. It starts off presenting itself somewhat seriously, but then lightens up more towards the end. It only reveals little pieces and portrays certain scenes differently than how they appear in the film. For example the scene where Kevin Spacey's character predicts the other soldier's marriage won't work out is used comically in the trailer. One scene that they edited was when the soldier comes out butt-naked and open fires. The trailer edits the scene to make it look like he's wearing pants.

Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor)

I guess a minor reason I liked the movie is that it is a short 94 minutes.

20190911:
Today I was transferring my old movie posts and came across an entry for this movie. I was surprised because I had recently added it to My List (Netflix) as if I hadn't seen it before.

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 95% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Haha! "You are crazy" written in his notebook.
Hahaha. Ewan McGregor asks "What's a Jedi warrior?" (He played the part of Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episodes I, II, and III; where he was a padawan, Jedi Knight, and Jedi Master, respectively)

I wonder if there's actually a study like that.
Haha. Almost like a Jedi Mind Trick except with a physical component.
Hahaha. Amphetamines.
HAHA. "Sir, what is the practical application of this?"
"... in an instant." "Instant? We've been sitting here for an hour. How is that instant?"
Haha. He killed the goat!?
Hahaha. 18 years later. (Stupidity)

Up in the Air (2009)

20110210:
This movie was all-around incredible.

Ryan Bingham (George Clooney)

I was satisfied with the ending. I don't mind the ending being open-ended, but I would just have preferred it being open-ended like the ending to (500) Days of Summer.

I particularly noticed the music. It really helped me get into the movie. It created a flow.

The shots were great.

For the most part I love the characters.

For a while, after completing the movie, I didn't know what to make of the romance that transpired between Ryan (George Clooney) and Alex (Vera Farmiga). At first I was a little upset by what transpired. However, after watching the deleted scenes, I understood the movie. Whether the deleted scenes contributed to my understanding of the movie is unclear, but I definitely liked the movie more after coming to an understanding of it.

Alex Goran (Vera Farmiga)

I guess what I liked most about the movie is the fact that I both understand and relate to it. It encompasses various philosophies and beliefs I have.

In short, the deleted scenes were great. More specifically, a part of one was okay; some were beyond great and really added to the movie; and some might not have worked together in the final cut of the film, but could have worked with a different combination of scenes.

[20180510 Edit]

On 20180510, Netflix determined the movie for me as a 84% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Instant Comments:
1: Zach Galifianakis's role in the film is brief. When the protagonist says he'll never see Galifianakis's character Steve again, it's true and neither do we. Sadness. A: "Ryan left me." Begins crying hysterically.
A: Ha. "Jennifer Chu."
A: A parenthesis.
A: Sound cuts out for a moment after Ryan finishes his sentence.

Special Features:
1: Watched Deleted Scenes: To Know Me Is To Fly With Me, Real People Firing and Irate Employee, Thumber and Extended Boat Scene, Omaha Montage, Spacesuit
1: Watched Teaser Trailer. The trailer really is a teaser, as it has Clooney's "What's in your Backpack" speech playing over clips which match the speech. The jumbled clips don't given anything away.
1: Watched Theatrical Trailer. The theatrical trailer contains a little bit more information than the teaser trailer. It describes the protagonist's job and overall lifestyle. It sets up two possible love interests equally. I'd say that's a good trailer. Enough information to want to watch the movie, rather than being a short version of the movie.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)

20110206, 20110207:
Pretty good movie. By chance, a day or two before watching this movie I was discussing the outlook of the human species. For that discussion I merely considered our ability to extend beyond our solar system. Watching this movie reminded me of the human species's capability for destruction.

Klaatu (Michael Rennie)

I liked the character Klaatu.

I wasn't too fond of Gort. I couldn't incorporate the fact that the movie was made in the 1950s. He's certainly no match for Sonny from I, Robot (2004) or T-800 Model 101 from the Terminator series. Perhaps I'd have liked it better if he was more mechanical looking, like C3P0 from Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977). He's certainly a destructive robot.*

Klaatu's final words to the people before departing:
I am leaving soon, and you will forgive me if I speak bluntly. The universe grows smaller every day, and the threat of aggression by any group, anywhere, can no longer be tolerated. There must be security for all, or no one is secure. Now, this does not mean giving up any freedom, except the freedom to act irresponsibly. Your ancestors knew this when they made laws to govern themselves and hired policemen to enforce them. We, of the other planets, have long accepted this principle. We have an organization for the mutual protection of all planets and for the complete elimination of aggression.

The test of any such higher authority is, of course, the police force that supports it. For our policemen, we created a race of robots.Their function is to patrol the planets in spaceships like this one and preserve the peace. In matters of aggression, we have given them absolute power over us. This power cannot be revoked. At the first sign of violence, they act automatically against the aggressor. The penalty for provoking their action is too terrible to risk. The result is, we live in peace, without arms or armies, secure in the knowledge that we are free from aggression and war. Free to pursue more... profitable enterprises. Now, we do not pretend to have achieved perfection, but we do have a system, and it works. I came here to give you these facts. It is no concern of ours how you run your own planet, but if you threaten to extend your violence, this Earth of yours will be reduced to a burned-out cinder. Your choice is simple: join us and live in peace, or pursue your present course and face obliteration. We shall be waiting for your answer. The decision rests with you.

The Other Boleyn Girl (2008)

20110206:
I had to watch this movie in pieces, many pieces. It was just too dramatic for me to watch all at once.

I liked Scarlett Johanssen more than Natalie Portman in this movie.

This movie was okay.

I watched the Deleted & Extended Scenes. I liked the extended version of the "The King's Fortune." "Anne Takes Little Henry" is interesting, but I'm not sure how it would have affected the movie. "Alternate Ending" had a couple extra pieces of text. I preferred the fade out of the alternate ending more than the freeze frame used in the film.

20110204:
This movie had some good scenes and lines, but overall I felt it lacking. I liked Funny People (2009) better and Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008) even more. The comparison between Get Him to the Greek and Forgetting Sarah Marshall is strong, because both movies overlap in actors, writer, and director.

Haha, I like all the brief appearances of actors and artists in the tabloids.

Lol, I thought it was funny how the one fake television show (Blind Medicine) with the blind doctor lists the name of something (title and something else) in both the Roman alphabet and in Braille.

Tom Felton!

After the end of the credits, Sean Combs tells the viewer the movie is over and to get out of the theatre.

I watched the Gag Reel: Part 1 (where's Part 2?). I like the Line-O-Rama better.
I watched Line-O-Rama. Pretty good stuff.
I watched Deleted Scenes. Nothing special.
Extended & Alternate Scenes. Some of these were good. Others didn't compare to the scenes that made the film.
Lol "clips" from Blind Medicine. Ridiculous.
