Scarface (1983)

20180531:
This movie was expiring 20180601, but I was lucky enough to begin the movie just before midnight.

Tony Montana (Al Pacino)

Unlike The Godfather Part II (1974), the plot of Scarface moves fast and is constantly aggressive making it more appealing. As such, even though the movie is also quite long (though short of The Godfather Part II by thirty minutes), I was much more interested. In different words, the movie had more outwardly intense moments, especially with respect to dialogue.

Due to the different tones of the two movies, it's hard for me to compare Al Pacino's performance in the two movies. I suppose Pacino tended to display a calmer anger in The Godfather Part II and a more aggressive, outspoken anger in Scarface; with the opposite anger occurring in less scenes.

Manny Ribera (Steven Bauer)

In the end, if you enjoy more thrilling crime movies like The Departed, and can handle strong language, then I would highly recommend this movie. And if you partially meet those prerequisites, then I would recommend the movie, because there's a good chance you will enjoy it. Note, however, that not everybody enjoys movies that end the way this movie ended.

I vaguely recall that Netflix determined the movie for me as a 90% match. But by the time I went to double-check, the movie had been removed.

Elvira Hancock (Michelle Pfeiffer)

Instant Comments:
how would they know if he's telling the truth
interesting interrogation scene to start off the movie
haha, "I have it close by too."
"Lesson number one: Don't underestimate the other guy's greed!"

Tony, his mother Mama Montana (Miriam Colon), and his sister Gina Montana (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio)

"Lesson Number two: Don't get high on your own supply."
Haha. The tongue. Quite a conversation between friends. Reminds me of some conversations between me and my friends.
"You calling me a liar? That what you calling me?"
She's wearing green again.
What a shitty hit attempt.

Tony starts ranting in a public restaurant.

"I don't want to kill you. Manolo. shoot that piece of shit." (said with an accent: sounds like "Chot dat piss of chit.")
Ha. He got a tiger.
I was wondering why she both sniffs the cocaine and places some in her mouth. [apparently it's to maximize the absorption: through nose and gums which are thin so it'll go to the blood]

Nacho Libre (2006)

20180530:
Prior to watching this movie, I was afraid it would be bad, but it was rated for me at 90% and it was soon to be expiring on Netflix. As such, I decided to go ahead and watch it.

Nacho (Jack Black)

Unfortunately, while there were a couple of light laughs in the movie, it was underwhelming and had a weak plot.

Although the film shares the same director with Napolean Dynamite (Jared Hess), the execution of awkward humor found in Nacho Libre was terrible and doesn't compare to that found in Napolean Dynamite.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend the film to anyone.

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 90% match. I decided to give the movie a thumbs down. I rated the movie 5 stars out of 10 on IMDb.com.

Sister Encarnacion (Ana de la Reguera)

Instant Comments:
Lol. Wait. I thought this man just had influenza.
Haha! "Well, my favorite color is light." [Oh, she actually said "light tan"]
Smile. She said "puppies" like "poopies."
What? I can't believe that worked. (throwing chips on the ground)
Oh, is that little kid Rico (on Hannah Montana)? [Yes, he's Moises Arias. Hannah Montana ran for four seasons from 2006 to 2011 where Arias had a recurring role during the first and a main role during the rest]
What are the rules? Why did he have to be tagged? Whereas the little midgets just ganged up on him.

Esqueleto (Hector Jimenez)

What the heck? Is this guy gonna be bald by the end of the movie?
Haha. He clenches his butt.
Nobody noticed that he was on fire until he himself was on fire?
The ending felt forced and/or lazy. how he went from losing to winning
The final moment in the movie seemed out of place I don't think he ever made this awkward smile elsewhere in the film

(Dis)Honesty: The Truth About Lies (2015)

20180530:
I enjoy documentaries, but I don't often watch them because I simply prefer watching other genres. Like sports, I tend to watch documentaries when they happen to be on television.

Dan Ariely

In any case, this documentary was on My List and I was fortunate enough to learn that it was expiring on Netflix. As such, I decided to give it a go.

The main part of the documentary could have been condensed into a TED talk, but I liked the supplementary material.

Overall, I would recommend it to those who have interest in human behavior.

Netflix determined the movie for me as a <56%* match. I decided to give the movie a thumbs up.

*With the first movie without a match percentage being 1st, (Dis)Honesty: The Truth About Lies was the 29th out of 32 items with hidden match percentages.

Ryan Holiday. Tucker Max. Prime example of a publicity stunt.
Haha. A nice lie. (Aeronautical engineer.)
I didn't know that was such a serious topic (using a different address for school attendance). [Known as "boundary hopping." Here I'm reading an article where the daughter is the one that would face prison. Apparently the schools are concerned with resources being drained. That led to another question: what is the cost? "On average, it costs $10,615 to send a kid to public school for a year."]

In a study, cheating was increased when participants were distanced from the result.

Haha. Nobody took more than four.

Great joke. "Only women ask this question."
Oh wow. That twist with social acceptance.
Hmm. In that story, while her lying wasn't acceptable, her husband was not without blame.

The Godfather Part II (1974)

20180528:
This movie was dark, but the plot was dense and there was a lot going on. As such, I was often confused and I relied on a detailed film synopsis to follow and understand the film.

Michael (Al Pacino)

With that being said, I loved the music and mystery in the film. In addition I enjoyed the tense moments in the movie and various surprises.

In the end, while I had trouble keeping up with the movie's plot, I could see the various elements which make the film great, such as story, acting, and lighting.*

I would highly recommend this movie to those who enjoy crime movies, in particular, to those who've seen and enjoyed the first movie, The Godfather. I would warn however, that the movie is long and that viewers make use of the intermission that comes at around the two hour and six minute mark.

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 93% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down. I rated the movie 8 out of 10 stars on IMDb.com.

Vito Corleone (Robert De Niro)

*There is hindsight involved here. I might not have identified these elements if I did not know the movie was highly rated.

Instant Comments:
Huh. I wonder if I should watch the first movie again. No, I'll just go read a summary. [I didn't remember any of the plot.]
Holy crap. That's quite a beginning. She asks him to spare her son and holds a knife to his throat. She should have just killed him.
Is that him singing? Does that mean he's not mute?
100 years. I recently heard a similar sentiment in Vietnamese.
Damn. "Michael, why are the drapes open?"

Kay (Diane Keaton)

Don Fanucci
Is she afraid of actually being killed?
Hehe. Rug scene.
Santino "Sonny" Corleone.
Oh wow. That sudden anger. "In my home! In my bedroom where my wife sleeps!"
I didn't understand these last two scenes. Fortunately there's a great film synopsis on IMDb.com. Paraphrasing:
Scene 1: Pentangeli goes to meet the Rosatos where they murder him. A policeman interrupts. Pentageli's bodyguard Willi Cicci is hit by a car while shooting at the Rosatos. Scene 2: The senator from earlier in the movie has been implicated for killing a prostitute.

Michael grabs his brother Fredo

After the previous scene, I continued watching the film
"I know it was you Fredo. You broke my heart. You broke my heart."
I wonder what he's gonna do. They each give him 50.
Hehe. "I'll make an offer he don't refuse. Don't worry."
Interesting. How did that work. Regardless, he gets to keep his full $200 and his friends save $150 each. Wow.
Huh. I didn't expect that to happen.
Interesting (towel catches on fire)
Just as I was going to comment that this is a long movie, the intermission screen shows (2 hour 6 minute mark). [I tried looking through this thread about intermissions but didn't really find an answer: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/14xe5o/why_dont_movie_theaters_have_intermission_anymore/]

Vito (right)

Ha. [My favorite and/or most memorable scene in the movie.] Buffers:
Senator Pat Geary: [...] was there always a buffer involved?
Willi Cici: He looks for clarification.
Senator Pat Geary: Someone in between you and your possible superiors who gave the actual orders.
Willi Cici: Right. Yeah. A buffer. He begins smiling. The family had a lot of buffers!

Fredo Corleone (John Cazale)

Haha. Wow. I didn't expect that. (the landlord comes after finding out about Vito's status)
I see. Fredo got his feelings hurt.
That's quite a conversation (Roman Emperor and stuff)
Three very different deaths. Assassination, Suicide, Hail Mary
So Pacino and De Niro don't have any scenes together. Interesting.

Naruto Shippuden the Movie: The Will of Fire (2009)

20180528:
Having finished the second Shippuden movie, today I decided to watch the third one.*

Naruto (JP: Junko Takeuchi / EN: Maile Flanagan)

I enjoyed how this film had even more action than the previous film. I also liked how this film also involved more characters. However, I was upset with the occasionally repetitive dialogue. For example, they just couldn't stop saying "Will of Fire."

Overall, despite being a filler to the main story, I would recommend this to film to Naruto fans for the action.

*I learned while writing this post that while this was the third movie, it's cited as occurring "after Shippuden episode 89," whereas the second movie is estimated as occurring "after Shippuden episode 111."

Shikamaru (JP: Showtaro Morikubo / EN: Tom Gibis)

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 96% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Instant Comments:
Naruto is so stubborn. But I suppose he can afford to be stubborn because he's so strong.
Hehe. Sakura scolds Naruto.

References Naruto Shippuden Episode 92.

Naruto uses his Rasengan and determination to successfully battle his way to Kakashi.

The number of times "Will of Fire" has been mentioned. Annoying.
"That stubborn idiot just doesn't get it." - Shikamaru.
Although I'm confused.
He said a word that sounded like "Chimera" except pronounced more like "Key-Mur-Ra".
Jiraiya!
Cool to see a battle between Gaara and Naruto
This movie displays that there are, among the ninja, conflicting beliefs and morals. Even though individually, each moral can be viewed as good.

Gaara (JP: Akira Ishida / EN: Liam O'Brien)

Wow. Naruto just got surprisingly deep. Who knew he was capable of that type of reasoning. In any case, great answer to "Why your way?"
Hmm. I'm curious if simply destroying that structure is sufficient. If it in any way helps focus the light.
Ooo. This is the first legit time I've seen Naruto create the Rasengan by himself. In fact, each of his clones is creating one on it's own. [IMDb.com lists this as a goof. Since it's a filler, it technically doesn't have to be canon. But it's also been argued Naruto simply finds it easier to create it with a clone.]
Lol. "Good morning..."
In pairs they create many Giant Rasengans.

Naruto and his clones create Rasengan on each one's own.

What? ["When Hiroku tried to absorb and use the Rasenshuriken, the process of combining this specific nature with that specific shape was too hard for him." (response on StackExchange) Given this explanation, it suggests that Hiroku would have been skilled since he could do the Rasengan and Lightning Blade. The Naruto Wikipedia gives a similar answer: "In Naruto Shippūden the Movie: The Will of Fire, Hiruko tries to absorb this technique, but was unable to combine the peak-levels of shape and nature transformation, like Naruto did at first. The sphere begins forming in his hand, but it becomes unstable and disperses, backfiring on him."
In any case, I recall that Naruto wasn't suppose to use that at clsoe range.
Also. An alternate ending could have been just fighting long enough to outlast the solar eclipse.

Hiruko (JP: Soichiro Hoshi / EN: Todd Haberkorn)

Ending:
Kakashi: "You know, you're a lot like him."
Naruto: "What's that? Why are you grinning like that? You're really weirding me out."
Kakashi: "Huh?"
Hinata: "I'm shocked."
Kakashi: "Huh? What?"
Hinata: "I knew the two of you have always been close but still."
Sai: "Sometimes after sharing a very intense situation it says here, 'Love can blossom.' But it says nothing about men."

Left to Right: Kiba (Kosuke Toriumi / EN: Kyle Hebert), Shino (JP: Shinji Kawada / EN: Derek Stephen Price), Sai (JP: Satoshi Hino / EN: Ben Diskin), Hinata (JP: Nana Mizuki / EN: Stephanie Sheh), Shikamaru, Tenten (JP: Yukari Tamura / EN: Danielle Judovits), Rock Lee (JP: Yoichi Masukawa / EN: Brian Donovan), Choji (JP: Kentaro Ito / EN: Robbie Rist), and Ino (JP: Ryoka Yuzuki / EN: Colleen Villard)

Shikamaru: "Oh come on, you gotta be kidding."
Kakashi: "Huh. No. That isn't what a meant."
Rock Lee: "Guy Sensei told me, that is simply another part of youth!"
Tenten: "I always suspected something like that was going on."
Naruto: Freaks out. Screams. "Oh come on. Give me a break here."
Kakashi: "Naruto, wait. It's just a misunderstanding. Come back!"
Naruto: "No!"
Kakashi: "Naruto, please!"
Naruto: "No!"

Naruto Shippuden the Movie: Bonds (2008)

20180524:
Sasuke's appearance in this movie was refreshing.

Naruto (JP: Junko Takeuchi / EN: Maile Flanagan)

Among the Naruto movies up until this point (by chronological release), this one felt like it had the most action.

Shinno (JP: Unsho Ishizuka / EN: Jamieson Price)

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 93% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down. I gave the movie 8 out of 10 on IMDb.com.

Naruto, Hinata (JP: Nana Mizuki / EN: Stephanie Sheh), and Sakura (JP: Chie Nakamura / EN: Kate Higgins)

Instant Comments:
Lol. The look on Naruto's face.
What!?! Did he really just sacrifice himself for Amaru? For a second, I thought for once a character would be punished for rashly running out ahead of the team. Well, I guess Amaru was punished, but not by his/her own life.

Amura (JP: Motoko Kumai / EN: Michelle Ruff)

Why did Shinnō release a beam and seemingly kill his own troops. Unless he had trouble aiming the beam. Note the Wiki page for Land of the Sky said this "The remnants of the fleet were completely incinerated when Shinnō launched a beam from the Ancor Vantian as a demonstration." [I went back to watch the scene and he in fact destroyed a third ship with people on it. The surrounding ship debris also vanished. In any case, I'll just have to ignore this non-sensical demonstration.]

Naruto refers to his past teachers Iruka (top left), Kakashi (top right), and Jiraiya (bottom left)

What does he say to Sasuke? [It's revealed at the end of the movie]
Tornado Rasengan
Lol. Gutsiness Rasengan.

Kakashi (JP: Kazuhiko Inoue / EN: Dave Wittenberg), Shikamaru (JP: Showtaro Morikubo / EN: Tom Gibis), Shino Aburame (JP: Shinji Kawada / EN: Derek Stephen Price), and Sai (JP: Satoshi Hino / EN: Ben Diskin)

Ha. "Don't go wasting your Byakugan on this one."
Smile. That save.
"I promise, I'm gonna bring you back to the Leaf."

Naruto takes on the four-tailed Version 2 form.

Little Witch Academia (2013)

20180524:
I'd have to say that despite my initial bias (that this would be a Harry Potter rip-off), this short was fun to watch.* While it didn't dive deep into the individual characters, it managed to form a cohesive and understandable story with a fair amount of action in a short time span.

Akko (JP: Megumi Han / EN: Erica Mendez)

With that being said, there was much left to be desired and I have trouble recommending it to others.

Remark: Apparently the movies are independent from the television series. Reddit: "Little Witch Academia (TV) exists in an entirely seperate [sic] continuity from the films and can be watched by itself, before, or after the movies."

*I'm reminded of when I first started watching Digimon and realized it was nothing like Pokemon.

Diana Cavendish (center, JP: Yoko Hikasa / EN: Laura Post) with Hannah (left, JP: Eri Nakao / EN: Jennifer Alyx) and Barbara (right, JP: Chinatsu Akasaki / EN: Alexis Nichols)

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 88% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Instant Comments:
Thus far, around the 7 minute mark, the short just seems like a rip-off of Harry Potter due to a wizarding school, pure blood vs. mudblood, and broom. [I dug into it and it seems various stories have the concept of going to wizarding school, and many which predate Harry Potter.]
It does differentiate itself sufficiently from that point forward.
Why did the shot destroy the dragon? Was the arrow shot non-magical?

In This Corner of the World (2016)

20180522:
When I first started watching this movie, I didn't know what it was going to be about and my attention was beginning to drift. However, things got interesting when the protagonist Suzu was older and got married.

Suzu Hojo (JP: Rena Nonen / EN: Laura Post, Ava Pickard (young))

The main plot of the movie follows a woman named Suzu and shows the difficulties she encounters, including those of wartime (Pacific War, World War II).

I enjoyed the animation and would recommend the movie to fans of 2D animation. I'm also a big fan of movies which make use of an art style different from the main movie (e.g., The Tale of the Three Brothers animated sequence in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010) or the end credits of Kung Fu Panda (2008)); in this film, I consider Suzu's drawings and imagination as such.

Suzu paints a picture for her friend.

Overall, I would recommend the film to fans of 2D animation. Note that while the film is a drama, it's not heavy.

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 94% match. I decided to give the movie a thumbs up. I gave it a 9 out of 10 on IMDb.com.

Instant Comments:
Strange movie. They've got married.

Suzu and her husband Shusaku Hojo (JP: Yoshimasa Hosoya / EN: Todd Haberkorn)

Hehe. "It's become so chilly in here."
What? Did she or did she not get married? [Rewinding: I think she did get married. But it's confusing.]
"I don't understand any of it, but it sure sounds funny."
Silly sugar idea.
What a switch of situations.

Suzu's father-in-law, Entaro Hojo (JP: Shigeru Ushiyama / EN: Kirk Thornton) covers her during an air raid. She herself is covering her sister-in-law's daughter, Harumi (JP: Natsuki Inaba / EN: Kenna Pickard)

Hehe. Sweet water. I wonder if they could have evaporated the water.
How does one stay out for the shrapnel?
Wow. What a difficult event. Bombing and death.
Her drawing hand is gone.

Suzu draws a heron using a pen fashioned out of a heron feather which was brought to her by her childhood friend Tetsu Mizuhara (JP: Daisuke Ono / EN: Michael Chapman)

It's interesting that Negi didn't lay any sort of blame on Naruto for Naruto leaving the formation.

Shion

While many dislike Sasuke and Sakura, I get annoyed by Naruto. This one comment in a "Who is the most annoying character in Naruto?" Reddit thread captures my thoughts:
Naruto. Great show, but Naruto as a character (despite having some solid development) literally came across as brain dead which was charming at first, but soon wore off. Also his stubbornness got to be really annoying at times since he never knew when to leave something alone and was basically "my way or the high way"

Shion looks at Naruto (with some attraction)

She could have just seen his clone.
