One Punch Man

20170925:
I decide to watch One-Punch Man (after finishing the four episodes of Castlevania). It's interesting.

Saitama "One Punch Man" (JP: Makoto Furukawa / EN: Max Mittelman)

I watched the first 7 minutes or so of the second episode.

20171003:
Today I started from where I left off.

After finishing the third episode, I was curious how the writers would build a story from a hero that is unbelievably strong. While some other plot points come into play, the story heavily revolves around the characters' personalities.

20171019: Episode 5.

The cyborg Genos (JP: Kaito Ishikawa / EN: Zach Aguilar)

20171020:
I meant to watch more yesterday, but the series is only available in Japanese audio, and so it takes more of my attention than I'd like. Likewise, today I only watched episode 6.

20171021: Episode 7.

On 20171215, Netflix determined the movie for me as <56% match. With the first item without a match percentage being 1st, One Punch Man was the 26th out of 88 items with hidden match percentages.

20180512:
It's been a while since I've watched this series. Today I watched episodes 8 and 9 with Ada. I gave her the general overview of the Hero Association rankings and tried to describe his speed and strength.

20180518: Episode 10.

20180610:
Today I finished watching One Punch Man (with Ada) and I gave it a thumbs up on Netflix.

S1E1
1: Lol, interesting premise (he grew super strong in three years)
1: Oh my goodness, the villain killed his brother.
1: Lol; that dream.
1=20170925

S1E2
1b: Ha. The pole falls down to block his penis after the smoke clears.
1b: A pun! "Mosquitoes... suck."
1b: Ha. Saitama doesn't want to hear, but he goes and tells his whole backstory anyways.
1b: This show has a good sense of humor.

Saitama vs. a mosquito, S1E2

S1E3
1: Ha. "Summarize in 20 words or less."
1: Efficient. Destroys all the floors.
1: Wow. That monster backed off from some sort of aura of power.
1: Hehe. He told the truth, but it does convince anybody (because it seems trivial.)
1: Lol. The punchline to all that logical reasoning: "Today is bargain day at the supermarket."
1=20171003

S1E4
1: This anime portrays kills in tastefully gruesome ways. In this particular scene where the ninja cuts off all their heads.
1: Speed-o'-Sound Sonic looks so feminine. Both his face and body. The faintest visual indication that he's a male is his voice and chest shape. Of course the fact that Saitama also punched him in the nuts.
1=20171003

The S-Class heroes (and Saitama, currently B-Class Rank 63) gather for a meeting

S1E5
1: Ha. Complete overkill.
1: 100 for Genos and an S. But Saitama probably got a C, because he probably failed the written.
1: Yeah a C with 71 points. [50 on physical and 21 on written]
1: Ha. Snake.
1: Lol. Saitama's pulled punch left a cavity.
1=20171019

S1E6
1: I'm absolutely amazed at the plot. Putting a super powerful hero as a Class C who must do petty hero work to maintain his hero status with an external organization. That's genius.
1: Lol. Saitama didn't take an claim of victory, but left evidence that suggests the monster is powerful (when it was him).
1=20171020

Saitama holds his breath while on the moon and fiddles with a rock before going back to Earth, S1E12

S1E7
1: It's surprising Saitama didn't get promoted to a higher rank.
1: My goodness. The sheep.
1: I was wondering how Saitama would approach the situation. Well done.
1=20171021

S1E11
1: Huh. This guy survived a punch (outer armor broken).
A: He said the armor was actually restricting his power.
1=20180610, A=20181120 (screenshot viewing)

Boros unleases a barrage of punches on Saitama, S1E12

S1E12
1: I figured Saitama was just having his fun cause he was bored (this "prediction" came before the opponent unleashed his power move that sent Saitama to the moon) [I was partially right. I guess the other guy was pretty strong.]
1: "Serious Punch"
1: Hahaha, "Back to one punch again. Goddammit."
1=20180610 10:45 PM PT, A=20181120 (screenshot viewing)

S2E13
1: Drop a deuce first.
1: The English dub for Saitama sounds weird.
1: LOL. King gives context to his situation...
1: I mean... he still has the opportunity to confess
1: He has a mean looking scar.
1: Oh wow. They go back to when Saitama had hair. And reveals how he got his scar
1=20231006 (Dub)

S2E14
1: Hehe. A human who identifies as a monster
1: To be fair... he did prove his point... what do the small heroes expect to impact with respect to the reason that meeting was held.
1: What kind of hero beats up other heroes?
1: Smile. Sideways jumps. Wasn't trying.
1: Ah. So it's no coincidence she looks like the class S hero. They're sisters.
1=20231006 (Dub)

S2E15
1: Huh. Mumen Rider interrupts... Very strange from viewer point of view as we've see how monsterous Garou is... and even in front of Mumen Rider he killed at least one person
1: Hehe. "Like hell. I'm gonna slaughter every last one of you bitches!"
1: Is Mumen Rider dead? Garou defeated a class S.
1: Charanko decided to fight? Goes against the smarter strategy to avoid confrontation where possible
1: It seems Garou only injured the heroes
1: Why would Garou go after a Class A hero? Or alternatively, why wouldn't the association be sending all its Class S heroes after Garou.
1: Hehe. We're given the impression that Saitama has been looking for Garou all day, but it turns out to be something else and he just happens to not be phased by Garou and take Garou out. I love it. In my head I was wondering how their interaction would go since Saitama takes everyone out so easily... And the way it was handled here was perfect
1=20231008 (Dub)

S2E16
1: Hmm. Garou is quite different from the type of villain who would want their opponent to be in the best shape... here Metal Bat is beat up and yet Garou still wants to go after him... strange
1=20231008 (Dub)

S2E17
1: Metal Bat could ahve taken out Garou if it weren't for his sister
1: Hehe. His sister in a way took him out.
1: Huh, this one monster says he used to be human and Silverfang says they should stop Garou before he becomes like that... that's weird
1: The after credits shows Saitama taking out Zakkos. Hehe. Girlfriend
1=20231008 (Dub)

S2E18
1: Suiryu
1: Suiryu beating this other hero [Lightning Max] really captures the essence of this show. The show is full of heros and villains who are a lot of talk... Interestingly, it doesn't get old. The extreme variance in power remains fresh.
1: Hehe. Bakuzan describes what he's going to do. "Don't touch my head."
1: Genos assumes the enemy "sacrificed his legs to escape" but I think that's just what's left of him...
1: The after credits indicated that Genos was defeated. I didn't realize that happened and went back to that part of the episode.
1: I have a slight feeling that while Gauros generally sees himself as a monster... there may be this weird situation where he fights against the monsters. Just a chance.
1=20231009 12AM (Dub)

S2E19
1: this guy gives Saitama a prep talk and mention Suiryu defeats opponents with one kick. is it possible he's the equivalent of Saitama s one punch?
1: I don't get it... why are monsters still raiding if it's not the final battle. Why not send all forces... What is the goal here if not to wipe out the heroes... like that centipede demon level monster should be fighting right? (Tornado and other Class S heroes are eliminating monsters.  though I guess three Class S heroes are down now: Metal Bat [Bad], Metal Knight [Dr. Bofoi], and Genos) (this is when Tornado steps in to take Flashy Flash's kill)
1: Hmm. Saitama held his punch and thereby only blasted away Suiryu's shirt
1: Hehe defeated with an accidental butt bump
1=20231009 1AM (Dub)

S2E20
1a: Oh I forgot to ask in the other episode regarding what Silverfang said. Do all monsters come from humans?
1a: While Suiryu is not as strong as Saitama, he is definitely strong...
1a: "I'd rather die than look balls out fugly as you."
1a: Watchdog Man... [The One Punch Man wiki currently lists the following S-Class heroes: Blast (hasn't shown up), (Tatsumaki) Tornado of Terror, [(Bang) Silver Fang], (Kamikaze) Atomic Samurai, [Child Emperor], (Bofoi) Metal Knight, King, Zombieman (did he show up?), Drive Knight (did he show up?), Pig God, Superallow Darkshine (did he show up?), Watchdog Man, Flashy Flash, (Genos) Demon Cyborg, (Bad) Metal Bat, Tanktop Master, Puri-puri Prisoner (did he show up?).][I was reviewing character appearances in Season 2 via the Wiki and Watchdog Man was actually in Episodes 16, 18, and 19; Drive Knight was also in Episode 19]
1b: Resume at 11 minute mark
1b: Huh. Where's Saitama during all this?
1b: I did already see up to the 14.5 minute mark
1b: Wow. Suiryu's cries. I assume Saitama will hear. And it's perfect cause no one is around to witness Saitama easily defeat Bakuzan
1a=20231009 2AM (Dub), 1b=20231009 (Dub)

S2E21
1: Puri-puri Prisoner makes his appearance during this arc.
1: Smile. "Plus I read it in a manga"
1: Hehe. The dog defeated him.
1: My first guess was he wouldn't take the offer, and despite wht he said just now, I still think he won't (Speed-o'-Sound Sonic)
1: Zombieman
1: He cooked it...
1=20231009

S2E22
1: The caption for the words says "Blackluster" [Wiki: Superalloy Darkshine (超ちょう合ごう金きんクロビカリ, Chōgōkin Kurobikari; Viz: Superalloy Blackluster))
1: Okay... the part about luring them in is explained here. But it still wasn't clear why monsters didn't retreta before
1: Oh. The roach did flee.
1: Hehe. Garou assumes it was King.
1: Wow. Genos looking all shiny
1: Hmm... I'm guessing even though Garou is injured... he'll be able to take these heroes out... they're probably only class A heroes
1: Hmm. He said even laughing hurts...
1: Almanac...
1=20231009

S2E23
1: I guess Garou has weird Anti-Hero vibes. Even though he's yet to do anything heroic. But the way the story is written... by this point - despite his murderous ways earlier in the story - I kind of want him to succeed in defeating these heroes. We've yet to fully see his backstory I think. We saw he was watching tv and upset that the bad guy never wins... but I feel like it might go deeper than that.
1: a flashback... he's fighting for other point of view... which is not unrealistic for example it is common to look down on theft but it can be a means to surviving and keeping food on the table. even murder is not necessarily black and white
1: hehe outnumbered and yet still making progress
1: if Garou wasn't so skilled, Gatling would have likely injured or worse killed the kid and regretted his actions.
1: awww... the kid runs in fear... didn't even acknowledge or realize he was protected by Garou
1=20231009

S2E24
1a: Phoenix Man comments how Garou didn't completely take out the heroes...
1a: Paused due to tired. Bang and his brother just attacked Centichoro and it only molted
1b: Hmm... I can't imagine Genos winning... even though his moves are flashy (He is cut in half and pieces himself back together and fires a big attack)
1b: Hmm. Even here after entering Centichoro's body
1b: Hehe. The King engine
1b: Hehe. "Uh, it's power, right?"

Castlevania

20170923:
I love the video game series and, in need of a series I can watch in the background, I decided to start Castlevania. Unfortunately, it was only four episodes long!

On 20181120, Netflix determined the movie for me as a ≥98% match (in fact, the first item in My List). The series already had a thumbs up and remained a thumbs up.

20181122:
I decided to watch Season 2 today, but I had forgot what happened in Season 1. However, rather than rewatch Season 1, I just read the episode summaries on Wikipedia.* Apparently, however, Netflix has a Season 1 recap!**

Trevor Belmont (right, Richard Armitage) and Sypha Belnades (left, Alejandra Reynoso)

I watched episodes S2E01 through S2E05.

*I wrote this summary for myself: Vlad Dracula Tepes has been angered and says he will enact his revenge by destroying the town of Wallachia in exactly one year (episode 1). Trevor Belmont rescues Sypha Belnades (episode 3) and the two encounter Adrian Tepes, also known as Alucard. He agrees to fight with them against his father Vlad (episode 4).
**This can be rewatched at any time by going to the "Trailers and more" section.

20181126:
The other day (20181123) I watched episodes S2E06 and S2E07, and today I watched the final episode of the second season, S2E08. I'm looking forward to the third season!

[20210908 Edit]
20200420:
Ada and I watched episode S3E05 today. There wasn't much action outside of Alucard practicing with his new students. Speaking of which, I hope they don't betray him. In any case, despite the lack of action, I enjoyed the new story elements that were revealed by Trevor and Sypha's discussion with Saint Germain.

20210906:
Since it's been such a long time, today I went back to S3E03. Afterwards I fell asleep.

[20210908]
20210912:
Today I spent the evening watching all of Season 4. I didn't take any notes while watching, but I have the following notes (tons of spoilers):
- I thought Trevor would have used the dagger earlier. But they were delaying it so much that I figure maybe it was a red herring
- I didn't expect Saint Germain to die (he might not be dead)
- Hehe. Lenore rejected the beauty of the sunrise
- I definitely didn't see the whole Varney twist
- Hehe. Trefor is a bad name
- Smile. Hector's final comment regarding the sexual innuendos which Lenore started off
- I figured it made sense for Dracula to be resurrected this season (as opposed to last season which felt too early). Oddly, Trever interrupts the creation of the Rebis and after the defeat of Death, I wondered if there would be a Season 5. Then after a couple of scenes it was clear there would be more and that somehow Vlad and Lisa were resurrected.

Watched Season 1 20170923 (Netflix, Instant)
Watched Season 2 20181122-20181126 (Netflix, Instant) (occasionally English subtitles)
Watched Season 3 20200329-20200420, 20210906-20210908 (Netflix, Instant)
Watched Season 4 20210912 (Netflix, Instant) (English subtitles)

"I think I might like you."
Hmm. What's gonna happen here... At this stake burning.
Not bad. He's not entirely evil. Gives them 1 year.
Oh, mainly because it'll take him one year to gather an army.
I suppose regardless, he didn't have to warn them. And he did. And anybody in that area had a choice.
1=20170923

S1E02:
"The Belmonts fought monsters. So I'm told."
Trevor Belmont.
"Listen, I used to fucking fight Vampires."
"I'm fucking Trevor Belmont."
Holy shit. His eyeball.
1=20170923

Alucard (James Callis)

S1E03
Haha. "Reflexes like a cat."
It's great they have principles, but the grandfather also made a deal with Trevor Belmont. And for him to stay shows that he nor his people are a people of their word.
Lol. An arrow into his other eye.
1=20170923

S1E04
Epic battle.
1=20170923

S2E01
Watching them ransack her home and the bishop making these accusations is infuriating.
1=20181122

Dracula

S2E02
Lol. "Oh, please. We're not children." Sypha leaves. "Eat shit and die." "Yes, fuck you." They laugh
Carmilla
That self-flagellation.
Smile. Carmilla is such a badass:
"Perhaps on the general notion that the Belmonts hunted the likes of us for fucking centuries."
"And if there's one left alive, then it may have access to the trove of weapons and magical materials talked of across generations but never found, which they used to hunt us through fucking centuries."
"Am I making myself clear now?"
(turns to Dracula)
"This is your war council, my lord?"
1=20181122

S2E03
Alucard makes lifting the rocks seem trivial (effortlessly uses one hand)
Mentions Leon Belmont
In my head, I'm thinking all this is grand, but hopefully it doesn't get trashed by the enemy.
Morning star. It's like when you're playing the game and find a new weapon.
I'm confused whether Dracula simply wants to destroy Wallachia or all humans.
1=20181122

Trevor, Alucard, and Sypha

S2E04
I suppose the artists make the raid bloody for the purposes of being entertaining for viewers, but if vampires truly raided towns so messily, then that would be a waste.
That was a great ending to the episode. Isaac.
1=20181122

S2E05
polymath - a person of wide-ranging knowledge or learning.
Impalement. Vlad the Impaler.
1=20181122

S2E06
Ha. They find the time to implant some comedic relief: Belmont tries to barricade the door
I love the choreography for Belmont.
"What the fuck just happened?" - Carmilla when the Castle is under Sypha's influence.
Oh no... the Belmont library...
1=20181123

Hector (Theo James) and Isaac (Adetokumboh M'Cormack)

S2E07
Hehe. Sypha ice battle.
What makes Dracula so strong?
Hehe. If this were the game, this is basically Dracula going into his second form.

1: "Dracula must be brought back"; ah yes... I felt as if he should be brought back to the show at some point... maybe not at this time though

S3E09
1: Jaw drop. Threesome.
1: I wonder what caused Alucard's eye to tear.
1: sneaky of Lenore, I didn't see that as being the method of her deception; I did figure she was just seducing him
1: That's upsetting. I earlier was hoing they didn't betray him (I guess because there was the obvious likelihood they would); with that said, I'm guessing Alucard would just summon his sword
1=20210908

S3E10
1: Huh. I don't understand why Isaac changed his mind.
1: Nice. Even more epic battling to follow up the last episode. Sypha is such a badass.
1: Hmm. Apple tree. What I'm wondering about is in that other episode there was something the Judge was doing with his hands...
1: Whoa. Whip + Morning Star.
1: Sigh. Fucking Taka and Sumi. Impatient little fucks.
1: "He was the Judge. And he found his little pleasures."
1: Smile. "[shush] The real people are talking." - Lenore to Hector
1: Interesting comment by Trevor: "We've spent a couple months living your life. Adventures and victories. Now, we're living my life."
1: Hehe. Went his father's route of impalement. That must be some major pain... though I suppose Alucard has been through worse. 1=20210908

Wonder Woman (2017)

20170922:
Overall, the movie overdid slow motion and lacked story, but fun enough to watch. 10:58PM PT

20231203:
Finished the movie today. It's interesting how I thought Superman was likely the most powerful superhero in DC, but it seems that Wonder Woman would be able to outmatch him. [Some reading indicates taht Superman is physically stronger, but Wonder Woman has some advantages that make it plausible for her to win.]
Instant Comments:
1: Young Diana.
2a: Their conversation reminds me that Diana is the weapon
1: All that slow motion.
1: LOL. His watch.
2a: Hehe. Awkwardness with sleeping next to each other on the boat.
2a: Smile. Slavery
2a: Smile Sword and shield. But where were those before?
2a: How rude. She identified the languages and that brings no intrigue. Simply a "see her out."
1: I don't like her accent.
2a: "I'm both frightened and aroused."
2a: Huh. Is she bullet proof or not? I think not because earlier in the film she had a wound (which healed quickly?). In any case, here she's using a shield. Perhaps even if she was bullet proof the shield is useful? Supposing she's not bullet proof, would the shield be sufficient? Why don't soldiers just use shields like Diana's to cross the front? [The Wonder Woman in the DCEU is bullet proof.][A related question is why she blocks bullets with her bracers. One of the main reasons is she is able to deflect bullets more directionally with her bracers. An interesting aside is that in some cases, the bracers seem to have the function of limiting her powers or absorbing energy.]
2a: Paused after Diana takes down the sniper with their help. 1 hour remaining
2b: Smile. She stands next to the woman and eyes the fit.
1: That wouldn't really make sense for her to steal the woman's clothing. [20231203: Oh, I'm not sure why I had this comment during the first viewing, but this time around it made sense to me that she had to steal the clothing. She, herself, did not have appropriate attire for the ball]
2b: Huh. Does this Poison woman not recognize him? I feel it's risky for him to approach her.
2b: Oh. She does have an inkling: "Have we met?"
2b: Hehe. He got distracted.
2b: Lol. Sword in back of dress.
2b: Doesn't sound like a quote. [Apparently the quote might be misattributed: https://intellectualtakeout.org/2017/09/the-thucydides-quote-in-wonder-woman-is-it-legit/]
2b: "What if there is no Ares?" Hmm. I can't remember if there's a plot twist. Earlier on in the movie, I suspected the person who funded the mission (David Thewlis)
2b: Huh. He is not afraid to tell her. "My dear child. That is not the godkiller. You are."
2b: Hehe. She realizes she can fly by imitating Ares?
2b: Ooo. That's badass. Carving the holes through the helmet with his fingers.
2b: After her win, I had the following thought. Earlier he said, "Only a god can kill another god." If it is really true, and she is the last god... then wouldn't she be immortal? Seems OP. [Most answers to this point out that immortal is not invincible. She could still be wounded, she just wouldn't die and would recover eventually. As for being the last god, it is or is likely that there are other entities that are equivalent to gods. Assuming she killed Ares, then she would simply be the remaining among a particular lineage of gods (the Greek gods which would be the family tree that includes Zeus). [She is actually a demigod: daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta; Ares says this to her (in contrast to Hippolyta's story that she was born of clay - which is apparently her origin story in Pre-52)]]

Dead Poets Society (1989)

20170916:
I enjoyed this movie for a couple of reasons. First, I enjoyed Robin Williams performance; due to the role model aspect of his character (John Keating), I was reminded of his role in Good Will Hunting (1997). Second, the interaction between the school boys and their growth throughout the school year under Keating carried with it a range of emotions consisting of happiness, triumph, and sadness.

John Keating (Robin Williams)

Overall, I would recommend the film to fans of drama (genre), theater, and literature. In general, anyone with a degree of appreciate for the arts may find this film particularly inspiring.

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 97% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Neil Perry (Robert Sean Leonard)

[20180517]

Instant Comments:
A: While writing this post, I realized that the actor playing Neil Perry is the same actor in the role of Dr. James Wilson on the television series House - except about fifteen years older.
1: Haha. "Well come on."
1: There chanting in a circle reminds me of when two of my friends and I went camping and we were chanting/singing as we walked around the campfire.

Charlie Dalton (Gale Hansen)

1: "Mr. Anderson? Don't think that I don't know that this assignment scares the hell out of you, you mole."
1: Powerful dialogue.
A sweaty-toothed madman with a stare that pounds my brain. [...]
H-His hands reach out and choke me. [...]
And, and all the time he's mumbling. [...]

Keaton responds to Todd's poem.
Todd Anderson (Ethan Hawke)

[He's mumbling,] "Truth. Truth is like, like a blanket that always leaves your feet cold." [...]
Y-Y-Y-You push it, stretch it, it'll never be enough. You kick at it, beat it, it'll never cover any of us. From the moment we enter crying to the moment we leave dying, it will just cover your face as you wail and cry and scream.
1: Dalton, in most settings would be viewed as a miscreant, but fits perfectly into Keating's class. ("I'm exercising the right not to walk.")
1: "Phone call from God... Now if it had been collect, it would have been daring!" - Keating

Knox Overstreet (Josh Charles)

1: "What did she say?" "Nothing." "What do you mean nothing?" "Nothing, but I did it."
1: Oh my goodness... What's gonna happen? The feeling I get is that he's gonna kill himself. But... (he's touching the laurel wreath and such...)
1: I suppose it had to end the way it did. As the impact of the movie in this way is more than if he was able to express himself...

Police Academy (1984)

20170901:
Today I watched Police Academy for the first time. The movie had a weak story, but had some good laughs. Honestly, I thought it would be better, because there are so many movies in the series; I knew there were at least four, and apparently there are seven.

Carey Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg)

In the end, I'm not sure if I would recommend Police Academy to anyone. It has a similar type of humor to other older comedies such as Spy Hard (1996). If the sequel (Police Academy 2) is good, then I would recommend Police Academy and proceed to watch other Police Academy movies.

Karen Thompson (Kim Cattrall)

Netflix determined the movie for me as a 92% match. I decided to give the movie neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down.

Instant Comments:
haha. After several shots "You guys."
lol. Foot sound effects.

Lt. Harris (G.W. Bailey) and Tackleberry (David Graf)

ha. of course. "Just a little off the side please." "You can do that?" "Sure this ain't the army."
lol. "Come with me." Mad man.
"Yes, ma'am." x3
haha. "What!?! No."

Mahoney and Moses Hightower (Bubba Smith)

hahahaha. "Drop that stereo or I'll blow your brains out, asshole!"
lol. Mahoney intentionally peers out so that Commandant Lassard thinks Mahoney gave him the blowjob.
I didn't expect there to be a car chase.
haha. sings Santa Claus is coming to town. And squeals. She's so cute.

Leslie Barbara (Donovan Scott) and Mahoney

omg. This chain reaction of events.
I would have fired a single warning shot.
lol. His sound effects skill comes into play.
"Don't move, dirtbag!!!"

Commandant Lassard (George Gaynes)

lol. "That's more like it." references the blowjob incident
haha. Does that mean the Commandant knows or not? Funny ending (prior to credits)
