A Monster in Paris (2011)

20160822:
While not the best animation I've seen, A Monster in Paris is full of charm and had its moments.

In particular, I loved the movie's songs.

If the movie had any major flaw, it'd be the weak development between certain characters. However, it's hard to pack such detail into a children's film and I'd easily sweep that flaw under the rug.

Lucille (Vanessa Paradis)

Overall, I'd recommend the film to anyone who enjoys films with singing (e.g. most classic Disney films, Anastasia). However, be a bit more reserved to recommending it as a children's film. For whatever reason, in that broader genre, I'd say the movie is a bit like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009).

Raoul (Fr:Gad Elmaleh / En:Adam Goldberg)

[20161009]

Instant Comments:
"[...] You'll have plenty of time to woo Maude when you get back."

Maud (Fr:Ludivine Sagnier, En: Madeline Zima) and Emile (Fr:Sebastien Desjours, En: Jay Harrington)

"How's it going with that sketch?"
I like how they recap his point of view
"Rauol, if we die I'll kill you." "Okay."

"Oh my God!" "Oh, my goods!"
Ha, the helium.
"You still have it right?"

Credits: Three people in jail, two singing and one frustrated of their singing.

Goosebumps (2015)

20160821:
Looking past the unbelievable premise,* the movie was full of bad dialogue and sub-par acting. With that being said, the various creatures which came to life were fun to watch.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend the film to anyone, not even during Halloween. Then again I only read one or two Goosebumps books as a kid, so maybe a Goosebumps fan would obtain more joy from watching the movie than I did.

*Considering the potential danger of his books, the movie character R. L. Stine should have put them under better security. Even something as simple as keeping the key hidden or putting the books in a safe would have been a step up from what he had in place.

Zach (Dylan Minnette)

[20160913]

Instant Comments:
Lol. There's a single new kid?
"How do we get down?"
"Surround sound... I didn't know being an audiophile was a crime."

Stine (Jack Black)

Haha, bear traps.
The movie occasionally has some bad dialogue.
I mean... technically he caused the alarm by being so defensive in the first place.
"Stop trying to be Stephen King man." Haha, the response.

Zach, Hannah (Odeya Rush), and Champ (Ryan Lee)

"Maybe they're friendly."
Ha. "It's Slappy's Revenge. Slappy's Revenge, that's a good title."
Haha. The current school play is "The Shining." (A Stephen King novel)
That's cute. "Oh oh, went too far."

Slappy

"The beginning, the middle, and the twist."
Ha. That ending.

After we watched the first episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, my friends and I watched some episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm. It was the first time I had ever seen the show. For the most part I enjoyed it; it's a different kind of comedy.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

20160816:
My friends and I were thinking of things to watch. As Josh had previously recommended Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to me and I never got around to watching it myself, we decided to go ahead and watch the first episode. While I enjoyed it, I didn't feel like watching more of it and we moved on to Curb Your Enthusiasm.

20170521:
After watching an episode of Grace and Frankie, Ada and I watched the first episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. While I don't know if I realized this on the first viewing, but on this viewing I realized why the show name has "Unbreakable" in the title.

Actress Jane Krakowski who plays Jacqueline Voorhees, looked familiar to me but I didn't know from where. Looking at IMDb, I realized that she was Jenna Maroney on 30 Rock.

0: "What the fudge!?"
0: Her light up shoes.
1: "I am very scared to ask you this..." "Yes, there was weird sex stuff in the bunker." "Let me finish. How much money was in your backpack?" "Thirteen thousand dollars." ;_;
1: The rat -> Flashback. "Damn you, Kimmy Schmidt, I will break you." "No, you won't."

The Little Prince (2015)

20160809:
I watched a film adaptation of Le Petit Prince when I was a kid - probably The Little Prince (1974). My mom rented it from the library.

The Fox (James Franco) and the Little Prince (Riley Osborne)

In any case, I absolutely loved this version of the film. It took an already great story and gave it even more depth. The decision to mix media (3D animation with stop-motion animation) was also appealing.

The Little Girl (Mackenzie Foy)

Overall, The Little Prince is one of those movies that just immediately places itself in my list of favorite films, right next to Little Miss Sunshine (2006) and Moonrise Kingdom (2012); all three warm my heart.

The Aviator (Jeff Bridges)

Needless to say, I would highly recommend the film to just about anyone.

[20160809][20160903]

20160901:
Having loved this movie so much, I told my friend that we had to see it together.

The Little Prince and the King (Bud Cort)

The first surprise for me as I watched was finding the various snippets and/or details which I had somehow missed during my first viewing.

The Conceited Man (Ricky Gervais)

The second surprise, though, was the detail my friend would find despite it being her first viewing. In particular, when the little girl is sorting pennies and pricks her finger and the camera shows a close-up of the object, she astutely identified it as a sword.

20210124 Comment:
A few weeks ago, I watched this movie with my wife and kid. My wife and I shed tears when the old man was being rushed to the hospital and she's telling him not to leave.

I'm not sure about previous viewings but on this viewing I was definitely made aware of the analogy between him having to leave (die) and The Little Prince having to do the same. Early on the story, the girl isn't aware of what the old man leaving means. It's implied that he passed away by the end of the film, but she's able to close her eyes and hear him laughing. It's such a sweet film.
Instant Comments:
1,2: "Do you have a driver's license?"
1: "You're wrong. I care about it as much as I care about you."

The Mother (Rachel McAdams) and the Little Girl

1: Yay, retrieved!
1: Aww. That's so sad when she chases after him in the hospital. My eyes got a bit teary.
1: "Do you know how to fly a plane?"
1: Smile: the fox stomps on a foot but it doesn't have any effect. 2: Oh no, my friend missed this part!

The Little Girl and the Aviator

1: This movie is so magical. What a great retelling of The Little Prince.
1: Aww: When she starts crying at the end at his hospital bed. Tearier than before.

Credits:
Ah, as I thought, it was Ricky Gervais [20211225: this read "Ah. I thought it was Ricky Gervais" and I think the punctuation must be wrong, because he was the voice of a character, so I fixed it]
The credits scroll down instead of up. It gives the feeling of rising up through the night sky.

Grace and Frankie

20170516:
Oh my goodness! I was trying to figure out which episodes I had seen and eventually I was looking at IMDb profiles and found out Lily Tomline, the actress that plays Frankie, was also the voice of Ms. Valerie Frizzle of The Magic School Bus (1994-2002), a children's science cartoon I watched as a kid (and as an adult whenever it aired).

In any case, as with Quantico, I watched episodes of this series when Ada watched them, and sometimes just in the background (while she was actively watching).
