Gone Girl (2014)

20141228:
This movie was a dark and twisted mindfuck. It had hilarious moments, gruesome moments, and tense moments.

I also liked the characters.

As a warning, the movie was long. Unfortunately, it was one of those movies which releases a lot of the core tension partway through and becomes a different movie. Interstellar (2014), another long movie, did this too, but at least Interstellar retained its momentum. With Gone Girl, the movie's pacing dropped as I sat wondering where the movie was going to take itself.

In the end, I failed to realize that the movie was more character driven. In contrast, Interstellar develops its characters, but is more plot driven.

Overall, the movie was intense, twisted, and awesome. 11:00PM PT

Trailers: Interstellar (2014), Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014), Taken 3. 10:59PM PT*
*We made a note to ourselves to remember that usually movies at the cheap theater have less trailers and therefore will start closer to the designated start time.

Big Hero 6 (2014)

20141227:
The film was fast paced and there was a lack of development in regards to the team. While I didn't know the background, in hindsight, the movie is called Big Hero 6 and should have been centered around the development of the team that was to become "Big Hero 6."

After watching the movie, my friends and I were talking and we agreed that the members could have trained together more.

Touching back on the film's fast pace, this a definite plus for a children's movie.

On a different note, since I didn't know about the comics and story on which Big Hero 6 was based, the movie's transition from its exposition to the action in the middle of the film was unexpected for me.

Short:
1: Hilarious and cute.
1: Dog.
1: Feast. 10:37PM PT
1: Well-told story. Clever.

Movie:
2: Started watching at robot competiton where he hustles his opponent by first losing
1: Nfltr. [20170307: My best guess is that I was highlighting this line: "It will take me a moment to re-inflate."][20180722: That is, "Nfltr" was the best I could discretely type "Inflate" during the movies on my phone]
2: Hehe Baymax acts as if he's drunk
1: "It's like spooning a warm marshmallow."
2: I was watching the movie in the background: I didnt see them train, but I saw them fail the fight and the reveal of the villain. I didn't see how the bad guy lost, but I remembered and figured Baymax would have passed the chip into Hiro's hand. Though would that really be possible given that was his programming? [20220610: I think it would be possible, because Baymax probably has some baseline functionality; in particular, there's a moment in the film where Hiro's fighting chip is removed from Baymax in which case the fighting chip is just an augmentation]

Credits:
1: After credits scene: "I wear them front." 20141228 12:56AM PT
2: Too bad there's no movie based around Stan Lee's character.

20171126:

Instant Comments:
3: The movie starts with a meeting which takes place prior to the first movie.
3: "12 months later."
3: The one Dwarf says his son is Gimli
2: Evangeline Lilly is much hotter than Liv Tyler.
2: "Do not give him hope where there is none." - Thranduil to Tauriel about Legolas.
2: Lol. That head must have been for 3D.
2: Lol. An arrow for 3D.
2: That attack to spear the orc to the log was awesome.
2: Of course the Legolas scene was good too.
3: I grew more and more sleepy. I finally fell asleep for a while after they managed to pass the gate. (Around 65 minute mark.)
2: "This is not a nice place to meet."
2: "It's a small town Alfred. Everyone knows where everyone lives."
2: Radagast asks "What if it's a trap?" Gandalf says "Go around and do not turn back." Radagast leaves. Gandalf says, "It's undoubtedly a trap."
2: When they return for the key and line up, screenshot.
2: That kill via boat leverage.
2: Not bad for a 3 v 1.

Interstellar (2014)

20141214:
This movie was fun to watch. Michael and I talked about the proximity of the station to black hole. The station was parked and they went around, came back, went to the next planet, and raced back. Anyways, Michael really liked the movie and praised it multiple times, particularly for the space setting and story.

Cooper (Matthew McConaughey)

The story put a lot of time in to set up the punchline. Though I'm not sure it dropped enough hints to set us up for the reveal.*

While long, it was a solid sci-fi. In particular, it is thus far my favorite end of the world movie (e.g., Armaggedon, The Core). Star Trek (2009), however, is a better space movie.

Watching the IMAX version was worth it. On a different note, I didn't like some of the soundtrack. 7:08PM PT

Trailers: Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)**

*Haha, I used the word "reveal" which I found funny because Michael Caine (who was in this movie) was also a movie called the Prestige.
**[20180722] I doubt there was only one attached trailer; however, after checking my notes (20180722), it seems I failed to indicate which trailers were attached.

20170304:
Originally planning to just do a screenshot viewing, I started watching the movie in full. It's a great movie. However, I also continued to find the length of the movie to be dreadfully long. In fact, I simply took a break to go to the supermarket halfway into the film.

Instant Comments:
1: Apollo nonsense

1: "I got you suspended." haha
1: Mockumentary
1: Dust falls in lines; Binary
1: "Didn't you bring the boltcutter?"
1: "Well who's they?"
1: That's sad. She throws the watch.
2: "Don't make me leave like this." ;_;
1: Another book falls.

1: I like the immediate transition to launch.
1: Either the violins or flutes were violently discordant.
1: Haha, 90% honesty.
1: Lol. "Why are you whispering, they can't hear you."
1: How would a wormhole look, 2: Oh right... a sphere... You excise two spheres from different points and paste them together.
1: Seven years per hour!?!
2: References Heart of Darkness
1: Fucking cool. CASE.

2: That'll weigh heavy on her conscience.
2: "You tell that to Doyle."
2: "...and it rules out telling a ten-year old the rules ending."
1: 23 years, 4 months, 8 days, 2: Damn, twenty-three years.
1: The adult Murphy looks similar to the child Murphy
2: "Do not go gentle into that good night."
1: Oh, it was a bit hard to hear, but Professor Brand was telling Murph about the lack of Plan A.

2: Professor Brand's last words are "Do... not... go... gentle."
2: The movie has less impact since I know most the surprises.
1, 2: "I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I can't watch this. I thought I could, but I can't.", 1: Lol, what an ass.
2: "It's not possible." "No, it's necessary."
1: Newton's Third Law
2: "See you on the other side Coop."
1: Sci-fi at its best, part II. (Sci-fi at its best, part I was their survival through the wormhole)
1: Projection of space into time via gravity.

2: The handshake!
2: He's as old as his grandchildren and would likely live to see his great-great-grandchildren.
2: Oh, I forgot the very ending.
1: Hans Zimmer. Quick credits.
