I wish I had been able to see Frankenstein (1931) before watching this, but unfortunately it wasn't available on Netflix. [Edit: Apparently I had seen Frankenstein! This is exactly why I keep a blog. :D]

While titled as "The Bride of Frankenstein," the plot actually revolves dominantly around the monster, Henry Frankenstein, and Dr. Pretorious.

Henry Frankenstein (Colin Clive)
Of the three classic horrors I saw, I like The Bride of Frankenstein best. The other two are The Wolf Man (1941) and Dracula (1931).

Instant Comments:
Lord Byron, Mary Shelley, Percy
Byron recounts the tale of Frankenstein

The Monster smokes a cigar.

She says, there's more and begins to tell.
Dr. Pretorius.
It's interesting, I find the monster less creepy than the these little people.
I find that one woman character annoying.

Dr. Pretorius (Ernest Thesiger)

Aww. Poor monster is so misunderstood and feared.
"Bread." "Drink." "Good, good." "Friend."
Haha. Smoke. That was quite a surprise.
Haha. Smoke is good.

Frankenstein and the Monster's Mate.

The average person is such a pain. Ruining friendships... getting people's houses on fire... forming mobs...
Ha! "Have a cigar, they're my only weakness." Earlier he said the same of gin.
"She's alive, alive!"

20140129:
I've never read or seen anything about Hellboy prior to watching this movie.

This movie goes back and forth between past and present, with the story in the past being unveiled in reverse. I found this type of storytelling effective and it made for an interesting ending.*

As mentioned, I don't know much about Hellboy, but this film seemed to focus on his mentor The Professor moreso than on Hellboy himself.

In any case, it was a decent animated action movie.

*A similar storytelling technique is used to a greater effect in the American thriller Memento (2000).

Instant Comments:
"maze of crap"

Hellboy, Liz Sherman (Selma Blair),

Haha. Vampire! The last movie I watched was Dracula (1931) and I was surprised to be seeing more vampires so soon.
Oh, I guess he was dreaming. Er... half dreaming?

Haha. They're talking about pastries.
Dang, that's a lot of ghosts.
"I never stay in after dark."

I started part of the film last night (in the early AM hours of today), but just barely before getting sleepy. I must have watched a good ten minutes of it before turning it off sleepily at about the twenty minute mark.

Dracula and his three wives.

I found the movie a little more interesting than Frankenstein (1931). I also found it more coherent than Frankenstein.

On a different note, I thought the last scene ended oddly.

Overall, I find Dracula to be a good, classic horror. However, similar to Frankenstein, I'm not sure I'd watch it a second time, but I'm glad I saw once.

John Harker (David Manners)

20140127: [20140215]
While I only sort of liked the beginning of this film, the remaining parts of it were interesting and as a whole I would would recommend this classic horror film to others. Two other classic horrors which I saw and recommend are The Wolf Man (1941) and The Bride of Frankenstein (1935).

Renfield (Dwight Frye) ignores warnings about going to Dracula's castle.

[Edit: Apparently I saw this film already! This is kind of why I keep a blog. :D]

I double-checked to make sure it wasn't my headphones. The audio quality of this movie as it streams on Netflix is poor and has static. I'm not sure if this is standard or not.
"Hey driver!" [He sees only a bat above the two horses]

Lucy (Frances Dade)

Why isn't this guy affected by the light?
"There are far worse things waiting man, than death." That's what Dumbledore says! However, I never really understood what it means.
Lol, creeper.
This John Harker is a fool.

20140126:
This movie had a lot of action and was fun to watch.

Dr. Eve Archer (Joan Allen)
The plot, however, was a bit far-fetched. In particular, there were many instances in the plot that would have aroused serious suspicious or at least an investigation in real life.

With that being said, the quality of the action outweighed the details of the plot. In fact, the overall plot was quite exciting in and of itself.

Castor Troy (John Travolta)
Instant Comments:
Lol, the sipping on a soda is interesting.
"Peach." [...] "I can eat a peach for hours."
Hehe. Playing chicken with a jet.
Ruthless.

Sean Archer (Nicolas Cage)
What a gunfight.
"When this is over, I want you to take this face, and burn it."
"Peach. I can eat peach a peach for hours."
Man, so risky. Any little thing could go wrong.

Pollux Troy (Alessandro Nivola)
Oh man, I wonder how much pain he's feeling with no face.
Oh, painkillers.
"What do you want?" "Take one God damn guess."
Haha. He makes no effort to act like Sean.

Ha. He was so casual about it, but almost failed.
Funny that no one knows Archer well enough to notice his drastic change in personality. Though I guess no one knows such technology exists.
Ah, his wife is suspicious, thank goodness.
Perhaps not suspicious enough.

Shit he downed that. What a gamble.
"Tiny surgery. I'd like to take his face... off."
Okay, there he goes to use the restroom. Oh what, I thought he was gonna induce vomiting.
"He's yours too."

Jamie Archer (Dominique Swain)
Shit, is it common for LAPD just to fire like that?
"Oh well, Plan B, let's just kill each other."
Sucks to be that guy. "Sir, why you so upset? It's just Pollux Troy."
"And I'm bored."

Castor Troy's guns.
Wow, quite a standoff.
Castor was a little silly to reveal himself to Jamie as a fake, but I guess he probably wasn't thinking.
That's a cool end to a speedboat sequence.
Man, to inflict pain on yourself in attempt to punish your enemy.

Sean Archer gets his face off.
Credits:
Going through the list of actors, I found that Alessandro Nivola, the actor who played Pollux Troy, was the protagonist in Five Dollars a Day (2008). It's interesting how a pair of glasses can entirely change how someone looks.

Until The Land Before Time XIV: Journey of the Brave is released in 2016, The Land Before Time XIII is the most recent Land Before Time sequel.

Cera (Anndi McAfee) and Doofah (Sandra Oh)

Of course, it will forever stand as the last film in a stretch of releases beginning with The Land Before Time II in 1994 - the series saw one sequel released around December every year except for Dec 1999 and Dec 2005.

In any case, while the Land Before Time series might not have the most interesting plots, they often (if not always) have something to teach - highly appropriate for a family/children's movie.

Petrie (Jeff Bennett) and Ducky (Aria Noelle Curzon) on Cera's back.

Haha. "The say-so's."
Keep your eyes and ears open.

Cera, Spike (Rob Paulsen), Petrie, Ducky, and Littlefoot.

Stay in a group.
Haha. "You're beautiful!"
Hahaha. "Wise one better be really wise."
Ha, Cera complains and cites one of the wisdoms she's learned: plan ahead.

Foobie (Pete Sepenuk), Loofah (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and Doofah.

Hehe. Their wisdom didn't make sense to Littlefoot and his friends.
"Things work out, if you just let them."
"Stop worrying about tomorrow and just dance."
Huh. Perhaps traditionally when they don't stay so grouped up, they don't leave any tracks.

Grandma Longneck (Miriam Flynn)

Oh wow, what an important wisdom learned: trust your instinct.
Foobie seems like the wise one to me.
Haha. "That's why they call him 'The Wise One'."
Stay in the Great Valley. "We have trouble with that one, yep, yep, yep."

Having recently watched II, III, and XI, I couldn't help but watch the remaining Land Before Time movies available on Netflix streaming (VII and XIII).

Littlefoot (Thomas Dekker)

Overall, this movie stood apart from the rest with its plot. In particular, it had a bit of an X-Files or Twilight Zone sort of mystery atmosphere to it.

With that being said, you would probably like or dislike this movie depending on whether you liked or disliked other Land Before Time sequels. You should, however, watch The Land Before Time (1988) regardless.

A Rainbow Face and Cera's Dad (John Ingle)

RF: "Ah, so why do you call the mysterious beyond mysterious? Why not the boring beyond? Or the 'Ooh, Nothing Out Here of Any Interest to Us' Beyond?"
Ha! "Don't tell me. You must be old Threehorn's daughter." "How'd you know?" "Let's just say there is a strong family resemblance." "Oh, thank you."

Stegosaurus, Rainbow Faces, Cera's Dad, Littlefoot, Spike, Petrie (Jeff Glenn Bennet), Ducky (Aria Noelle Curzon)

"Don't worry. My brother may be many bad things, but he would never let those others harm her."
"I told you that the young ones had potential, especially the little Longneck. Think we should help them out?" "You know that isn't allowed." "Oh, yes, I-I know." Wow, mysterious.

Grandma Longneck (Miriam Flynn) and Grandpa Longneck (Kenneth Mars)

"Then again, there are others I shan't miss at all."
Oh, I get it now, "for your species."
"Well, that would be telling wouldn't it?"

The Rainbow Faces are voiced by Charles Kimbrough and Patti Deutsch.
Their species name is Galliminimus.

20140123:
I didn't know what to expect from this classic horror film, but overall I would say I enjoyed it. However, neither familiar with modern horror films nor classic horror films, I don't know what classifies a good horror film. Thus, while I would recommend this film (it's not scary), surely the reader should take the recommendation with a grain of salt.

Compared to the two other classic horror films I've seen, Dracula (1931) and The Bride of Frankenstein (1935), I liked the idea underlying The Wolf Man best. Actually, I think I liked the overarching story the best as well, but failed to execute the story in a strong and compelling manner. In addition, the werewolf transformation felt dated.

Instant Comments:
Hehe, what a creeper (telescope+follow-up)
Wow, he's persistent.

"Well of course, that's the one I killed the wolf with."
"Fighting against superstition is as hard as fighting against Satan himself."
"You killed the wolf... The wolf was Bela."
I wonder if there was any misunderstanding between Gwen and Larry regarding his admission of being a werewolf, because he never clarified that it was given to him by Bela.

It's interesting, because people recite the legend, but don't actually believe in it.
As far as we know, it's not just in his mind, because there are actual tracks.
He just told his father the entire truth. Bela being a werewolf, that he's been bitten, shows him the scar, and that he saw his next victim.
Hehe. The guy jokes. "Have you forgotten it takes a silver bullet to kill a werewolf."
Unfortunately, no one listens to the gypsy.
